We are trying to maximize the value of our 2nd round pick from last year by any means necessary :D

I'm glad Ginn is turning in to a good player though..... 1 for 2 is not that bad..

Not at all brother.. Padre mentioned that we gave up a 2nd, but I'm countering that it was based on how Feeley played as a backup in Philly...

The market value for Beck can not be compared to what a Wannstache regime overpaid for in Feeley. If someone offered us a 2nd round pick for Beck I'd think the FBI would be knocking on Parcells door investigating grand larceny.

A lot of guys improved their game from 2004 to 2005. Those assuming Beck can't are just letting that miserable 2004 stick to their minds.

The fact the guy is still here the way Ireland turns over the bottom of the roster all the time shows that he still has value to the team. If the draft comes and goes, then expect them to be keeping him for another year.

You're assuming that the FO feels the same way that you do about Beck and other talent evaluators, which brings me to the next part of your post... :wink2:

Sure, but if Beck didn't have any value and they didn't see something in him, why didn't they replace him at some point during the year? Do you keep a player around that you don't have confidence in just so you can reap a draft pick for another?

I did, infact I was one of them. I freely admit that I totally wrote Porter off after his disastrous season last year. I had visions of Taylor and Porter combining to become a dominant passrushing force and it didn't happen for several reasons, but the fact that Porter was an NFL vet who's attitude/comments has been a problem and who had injury concerns, I thought it may be best to cut ties with him. But that was an emotional decision and I was wrong, Porter was playing out of position on a defense that wasn't all that creative, once he was put in a position to succeed....he did.

And that's all I'm saying about Beck or any other player that has potential, until we see what they can do in a favorable environment, we shouldn't write them off and toss them off to the side. We don't know how well Beck has done and what strides he's made since the preseason, but we do know that he wouldn't be here if the FO didn't feel that he was worth the roster spot. :wink2:

As far as Beck's first year in the NFL, I think it did more harm than good to be honest. Last year was a new beginning for him and he wasn't expected to beat out Pennington, nor was Henne, and they both looked like young QB's trying to learn a new NFL system (which takes time for any player). But if we work under the idea that Beck didn't beat out Penny so that says something about his ability as an NFL QB, the same has to be said about Henne.

And this we can all agree on. :hi5:

Last game of the year v the Patsies, he was in the process of being sacked, threw up a prayer, and Darious Thompson made the catch for a game winning TD..

Agreed to much upside, if we do trade him then we will probably need another QB, why not just continue to groom him and Henne.

It took us how many years to get into a position where QB isn't a need, and right now we have two young guys behind a stable veteran, almost any other team in the league would be lucky enough to be in this situation.

    Keep him!

Then the Dolphins need a veteran runningback in case both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams go down.

Then they need at last 3 veteran wide recievers. Might as well get veterans for each of the offensive line positions while we are at it.

It's something with Beck dude. I don't know, you just have to put his name in a thread and it gets like 10 pages of responses. It has died down a bit since he became our 3rd. stringer, but the magic is still there. =D

Sorry but it wasn't the last game of the year and A.J. wasn't being sacked, nor was he was tossing up a prayer.

    Have a look nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d8025e627

After the game A.J. and Thompson said the play was going to Thompson all a'long because they knew the Pats were going to put a WR' " Tory Brown " to cover Thompson.Brown was only playing as a CB because injuries had hit the Pats hard that year.

No offence but when i see a post that's 75% untrue, i have to say something, well that and you called me................ " fundat " one to many times lol :knucks:

Yes he did help us win some games and he had a Qb ratting of a 61.7 with 3 only fumbles in 11 games, and Beck had a QB ratting of 62.0 and had 7 fumbles in only 5 games.:cry::cry::pity::pity::pity:

Thank GOD for Bill, Jeff, Tony, and the Chad's.

Look everyone gave John Beck some slack for his first rough season, due to the horrible 1-15 team and staff around him.

I was looking forward to training camp last year to see what Beck could do in 2008, and, know what, he totally crumpled the minute Henne came into camp to compete. I was one of (if not the) first to red-flag that as a sign the boy just didn;t have the mental nerve to compete through adversity right now. His jitters kept screwing him up.

And I was happy to say what I believed last August despite board members from the Gurus to the trolls politely telling me I was being stupid. :)

So I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade when it comes to Beck, and I have to be honest... I am curious whether Beck's head will be in a healthier space after a year of calming influence under Chad Pennington's tutleage, especially with Chad speaking publicly about how he has dealt with the adversity of injuries, of people losing belief in him, of him doubting himself, of getting cut, and of fighting through it all to prove his confidence and ability. I could see Chad REALLY helping John regain his heart and see how to rise above the adversity and doubts to become a professional.

Also, as a contrast to the experience of Beck's first year, this year we won the AFC East and proved that redemption is possible on a team,. and personal level (Penny beating the Jets to end the season and win the crown).

I just have a feeling that in his rookie year all the NFL pressure and transition was simply too much for John Beck, emotionally and pressure-wise. Ditto heading into training camp to compete for the starting job last year (after his disatrous season). But, I think he's probably grown a lot this year and he has always had GREAT tools (accuracy, decent arm, smart, real film-room guy) to succeed if he can stay calm and confident in the line of fire.

I'll say this... John Beck is absolutely worth having a look at in next year's training camp. That's when we'll know what we have. Let's see how he competes in camp, with AT LEAST the #2 QB job at stake.

John Beck, to me, looks like a Trent Green, Drew Brees type, who needs a few years to get his legs under him. And despite being one of the first people to write him off in 2008 training camp, I will now say that once John Beck gets his mojo back, I am still convinced he'll be a very very good quarterback in this league.

Wow, some of you guys really don't like my boy, Johnny!:shifty:

I'd really like for someone to tell me just what has Henne shown that makes you think he is our next Dan Marino? Now if he works out to be that good I say great and let John go to a team that can use him. In the mean time why ask for trouble when we have so many areas that are in far more need of an upgrade. Next year will be the first in the last 10 that we had a leader in that slot yet here some are talking trade in an area that there is no need. Why? Because some don't like John, I keep telling you guys that Johnny is gonna be a good one when he gets his chance, you watch.:wink2:

It is my GUESS that ....WE......want a young QB to be sucessful so bad that we are willing to NOT SEE the problems Beck has shown on the field in hopes that he is the next big thing. We have been without SO LONG, that we just WILL NOT SEE what he looked like on the field. I doubt you can find anyone on any other team that has ANYTHING nice to say about Becks play, which, I understand, means nothing to most, He seems to be a great guy, but his lack of ball handling skills show me he has a problem that I doubt this regime will put up with, on the field. This is, IMHO, nothing more that homerism, which I have been included in at some time too.

He might not be our next Danny Boy, but at least he hasnt fumbled the snap every 3 or 4 times he is behind center. He has a great arm and he was drafted by THIS REGIME, which gives him a leg up on Beck from the start.........this might be the biggest difference.........besides the fumbling problems.
We all WANT Beck to do good and be sucessful, but..............
What I know as fact is............Beck was given a whole offseason of ONE ON ONE coaching, overtime, and by our head coaches thinking, was STILL passed up by a rookie during training camp. I have to take Sparanos opinion over what I WANT to happen to Beck, since he is THERE, on the practice field, watching BOTH of them play the game. To ME......its as simple as that.

Rank homerism doesn't allow for the possibility Beck could still be awful, I'm willing to say he could still be bad, however, he just as well could have improved his game.

Cam last year intended to keep John Beck on the bench, obviously it didn't turn out like that, this year he has had his one year to absorb the NFL and how things are done, as well as working with a Qb coach.

One of Cam's more mind boggling decisions last year was to only work with the first string guy, so Beck was pretty much thrown into the fire with little to no preparation last year.

Does all of this excuse Becks fumbling issues TO YOU?? cause it doesnt to me. With that offseason of work with the QB coach, he STILL had some problems in camp.

And he's had ten additional months to work on those issues, Beck is a consciencious type of player, I'd have to believe he has put the work in that he needed to in order to overcome that problem.

I do not think this is a valid argument anymore.. not many of us believes "this" FO would keep Beck if he did not stop the fumbles. Is there any doubt how serious Tony takes ball security, he pounds them every practice.. ask yourself if you think Tony would tolerate losing the ball on his team and there is your answer about fumbling.

Because there is no reason to think it hasn't improved at least some part of his game BR.

John B came from one of those dammable spread/shotgun offenses, it takes time to retrain a Qb to do everything from dropping back to peripheral vision for pass rushers and receivers.

That is one of the luxuries of developing a #3 Qb, we have time, as long as he puts in the effort, we will see results.

Not to beat a dead horse but what is the harm in keeping Beck around if we can't get any value in return? I'm pretty damn sure that if Pennington got injured last season that we would immediately, (within 24 hours) pick up a veteran or PS QB... As it stands now, we should wait until a team is willing to give up a pick for Beck and jump all over it because IMHO we can probably get more value out of it.. There are plenty of glaring needs on this team, and if you can get anything for your 3rd string QB who has been miserable on the field when given the chance, you jump all over it... Just my uninformed opinion, which in the grand scheme of things is probably the last thing the Miami Dolphins are thinking

Oh come on Adam P. Feeley threw up a prayer and Thompson came down with the ball, and the dude got the Dolphins tattoo because of it...

A #3 Qb, barring some catastrophe, does not see the field during the season, they are lucky if they get a Half in the preseason, then it is back to clipboard holding and trying to learn the nuances from the Starting Qb.

And if we have some confidence in Pennington being a coach down the road, we will see his handiwork in Chad Henne and John Beck, but especially Beck, he had more room to grow as a Qb, Henne was far more polished then Beck was coming out.

What results Padre??? He isn't going to move beyond 3rd string in the foreseeable future.. The only results we will see would involve a catastrophic scenario where both Pennington and Henne go down.. If that scenario doesn't unfold, Beck probably sees no playing time for at least 2 or possibly 3 more years... At which time he will be over 30.... If a team has faith in him and we can get something in return, why not let him go?

My mantra is simple, I can have an opinion, you can have one as well, but until the player has a chance OUT ON THE FIELD, they will remain just our opinions.

    Playing time dispels all doubts.

And typically, the #3 Qb is rarely heard from, let alone seen, Casey Bramlett? Hamdan?

Did either see the field during the season? Ditto Beck, but if we develop him, he can bring more value then if we dump him for a token pick.

Maybe I am missing your point here but, as I said before, after a whole offseason of one on one work with the QB coach, he STILL had problems with ball handling the NEXT CAMP................. and he is still here. MAYBE........thats because they still see some hope, or maybe its because he is the cheapest option, or maybe its because they think they will be able to trade him for something. I doubt any of us know the answer to that one.

At what cost? We are in the business of developing talent to help us win, not developing talent to have it sit on the bench.... Beck came in here as the potential heir to the throne, now he sits alone at the end of the bench, helping Pennington prepare for games, while listening to the coaching staff praise Henne every chance they get.... Since this organization has a knack for finding talent through the draft, can't you acknoweldge that we can more value out of a 6th round pick for Beck, someone that will actually play and contribute, than we are currently getting out of Beck? Assuming of course that anyone would be willing to pick him up.. Perhaps we can trade him to Wanny at Pitt and get first dibs on any players coming out of Pitt :D

Well BR, you sort of answered your own question, if we spend three years developing the guy, it wouldn't make much sense to dump him to bring someone else in to be retrained, and retaught, only to ride the pine.

Steve Bono, started 2 games for the Vikings, signed with the 49ers, rode the pine three years, then led to the playoffs and then two years later, snagged some value from the Chiefs who were desperate for a solid NFL Qb.

That is a great template to apply to John Beck as the #3 Qb, he has the tools, just give him time, and the #3 has a ton of time, and we have Chad P. teaching him how to play Qb, I like that scenario.

This past season, when Chad P. was looking at the still photos of the Defenses, he had Henne on the right, and Beck on the left, that has gotta be a boon to J Beck's development.

We all know Penny's days are numbered as a Dolphin based on health history alone. It won't be too much longer before he sits, Henne (most likely) steps in as the 1, and Beck automatically becomes the 2. He's learned under Penny. He's studied this offense. And I'll say it again, John Beck is a tough, hard working, smart football player and there's no way Sparano let's a guy like that walk away from his football team for the sake of picking up an extra 6 or 7 round draft pick.

It also may be a boon for Beck as a future coach, but I'm not sure any of this translates in to performance on the field. If he still checks down every dropback, still fumbles every third snap, and still looks completely overmatched on the field, all the intellectual stimulation may only make him a good coach, not player.

I felt sorry for Beck when he started for us. During a miserable 1-15 season he looked like the only player on the field that didn't belong in an NFL game. It was sad to watch. I had high hopes for the kid, but until he comes in to a game, takes command of the huddle and plays as smart as people claim he is, I won't believe it. Unfortunately for us and Beck, I don't think that will happen as a Miami Dolphin.

We have 2 or three 6th or 7th round picks this year anyway.

That said, Beck does have to show more, he came here with the "tools", strong arm, speed, accuracy at BYU, he does have to start showing them IMO.

In two years, he has made one NFL calibur throw, and that was in 07 in the preseason, he has to do better then that or there is not much point in projecting him as even a #2 Qb St Louis.

Tell that to Bill Bellichick. What would his year have been like if Brady goes down and there's no Matta Cassell there to step up? Cassell sat the bench for about 3 years. Was THAT a waste of talent? Was THAT a waste of developmental effort? I think not.

And FTR, I would love to come in here and eat crow about Beck. I had my doubts about Ginn early this season and now love the kid and the improvements he has made... Ginn really showed a new level of toughness and I expect great things out of him.... Beck on the other hand, by the very nature of his position, will not get a chance to redeem himself, IMHO. That is why you take what you can get and move on.
