http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/01/sources-two-psu-underclassmen-to-declare/ We had already heard about Maybin but Evans leaving after his lackluster year is somewhat of a surprise. Do you guys think the powers that be would take a chance on Evans in the mid rounds?
just saw on espn ticker that Greg Hardy is coming out and just found a link http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/news/story?id=3829971
Asher Allen Leaves Georgia for NFL http://georgia.scout.com/2/829910.html Myron Rolle is also going to England for Oxford and a 1 year Masters Degree. He plans on entering draft in 2010
Nate Davis is out, as is Jeremy Childs of Boise State. Greg Hardy isn't confirmed. He has an afternoon meeting with Houston Nutt as he's a little confused. Which, given his normal state of mind is no surprise.
tomorrow is the deadline!!!! woot!!! we'll finally have the full list of who is in this years draft. then, 3 months of waiting and specualting!!
From Tony Pauline: "Scouts in Houston were a bit miffed to hear Aaron Maybin declared for the draft and thought it was a rash decision. Scouts think Maybin may be reading too much into the pundits who guarantee he is a top eight pick as is reading too many of his own headlines. While they like Maybin at this point in time most we spoke with feel he does not have a defined NFL-position and must further physically mature to handle the rigors of the next level."
Lafell coming out, but hos 2 teammates Scott and Ciron black staying in school? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/news/story?id=3831968 Announcement will be later today.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-fbc-pitt-mccoy-leaves,0,638547.story Lesean McCoy official. Told Wanny via telephone. DW gets all the bad news via phone, Ricky phoning in his retirement, etc. Makes me smile for some reason.
Hartline enters draft http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/01/14/osu-nfl.html?sid=101
Because were stacked at WR now. He didn't really progress this year even when Boeckman was in he didn't do much. He dropped alot of easy and key passes this year. Ohio St's deepest position is WR followed by either RB or LB.
That's a shocker re: Mark Sanchez. Bradford doesn't surprise me at all. Sanchez had a chance to nose right into the mix with Colt McCoy, Bradford, Tony Pike and Zac Robinson next season. With Matt Stafford as the only competition, he's going to go higher than he should. Maybe a LOT higher.
I don't mind it at all. Though he's had his turnover issues and the perennial question of whether it's the system or the QB at $C, I like the Bruins chances with Mustain more. Sanchez has his Rose Bowl performance to bank on though I actually think the WR's deserve a bigger chunk of the credit with such route running and separation (Pop Warner kids could've made those throws). He certainly won't be as polished as he should be going into the draft but little to no competition in the pool so he'll be one of few marquee choices for a team looking at QB. Still a better prospect than Booty but I wonder if he could've used another year to really tighten up on those turnovers.
So without Bradford, who do the Lions go for? Interesting choice by Sam imo, Im not sure if anyone can see him getting better or putting up better numbers. I feel at this point he can only fall, since he was all but assured to go #1 this year. Next year will have some damn good QBs though now.
Knowing the Lions they will probably pick Stafford. I think they should draft an O-Lineman or even trade down and acquire more picks.
Nah Stafford isn't worth it IMO. They will draft a Tackle and move Cherlius to RT. Not bad of an Oline if you ask me.
I wonder if they will try and leverage stafford in a trade. With only 1 top tier QB they may find a taker. Personally, Im not to down on Stafford, nor am I to high on him. The big question is will they go Atlanta and draft the QB and hope he comes out firing, or go Miami, let a vet play, and work on the lines. Gurus, do you feel any defensive player would be worth the top overall to the lions? Could we see a Mario Williams come from nowhere, and if so who would it be?
Cherlius got beat up at Left Tackle this year. Coming out of BC everyone knew he would be a good Right Tackle. If they get a LT and move him back to RT, that could be the start of a very solid line. I can't wait to see what my boy Kevin Smith does up there if he ever gets a decent line in front of him.
They're Detroit. Until they prove otherwise, you just have to assume they'll go all bonkers and draft Crabtree.
Actually, I think Detroit is in a really great position, if their front office shows any wherewithall and professionalism at all. They have Dallas's first rounder as well, which is 18th I think? They could take a QB #1 and still get a really good tackle later, or take the top tackle and maybe still get Stafford/Sanchez at 18 or take a defensive player there. Detroit could come away with a great nucleus if they actually play this the right way.
Unless there is one guy that just absolutely shines at the combine the Lions are in a difficult position with the 1st pick. No one will want to trade with them because of the upfront money. If they were smart, I agree with Boomer, take Curry with the 1st pick, look at QB or OT with pick #18 and continue to build both lines with their picks in the 2nd and 3rd.
I like Curry but I just don't see him as a dynamic enough prospect to be the #1 pick. I'm no expert so maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see it. Unless it's L.T., you don't really build a team around a linebacker. If they stay at #1 it has to be either a QB or LT prospect.
Show me a dynamic prospect in the whole draft. Maulauga has dynamism, but there are question marks. We can't really speculate on Detroit until we know what defensive system they'll run.
