I want to know if you guys had the #1 pick who would you pick?

    Forget systems. Forget team needs.

What player would you pick in the upcoming draft to build a team around and why? Say this is the first man on a 53 man roster. Who do you pick?

If Colt McCoy came out, he'd be perfect. But it looks like the best QB coming out this year is Sam Bradford, so I'd go with him. Not a bad consolation prize.

Hell, I almost want us to tank next season so we can have the #1 pick and get Colt.

    Now...remember, I said almost. :wink2:

    Why?

I am going to go out on a limb here, but it might be fair to say I have seen him play in person more than any other poster here. As a matter of fact...I know I have. We know why the so called experts think he would go 1st overall. I would love to hear why you think so.

Conventional wisdom says you never pass on a franchise QB, so that logic would say you take Stafford or Bradford.

I'm not a conventional guy though, so I'm going to follow the Parcells model and draft the sure-thing LT, Andre Smith. I like the QBs, but neither excites me all that much, and I'm more interested in building my team from the inside out.

Also, with my O-Line set, I can turn my attention to QB in round 2, and pick up a guy like Josh Freeman at #33 overall, providing I still have that pick.

I have seen this kid play a lot since his first college snap, and I think he is going to be something special.

    Easy.

Knoshon Moreno. There is no one else. He is the best Running Back in the country and running & defense wins championships, especially with no clear cut future NFL star out there at the Quarterback position.

Too early to say...you never know about the small school kids until they play in the senior bowl or go to the combine.
But if I were forced to make a selection, I'd go with Andre Smith.

Sam Bradford. Has the chance to be the next Phil Rivers. Best player on the best team.

Don't run with this one, but I'll bet you a six pack that Tebow outplays Bradford in this game. Nothing to do with the question of pro potential.

Guiness, Boddington's, Murphy's, take your pick. I'll mail it to London if I lose.

Better weapons in that gimmick offense......wouldn't surprise me. He'll make more college football plays to win it. But Bradford will be the one making NFL throws. Florida just has too much speed I think.

You have a college team Jim?

I went to IU, lived in the same dorm with Pete Soyanovich and the same floor as Eric Moore. Nice, very large dude. IU football is, quite frankly, boring. I'll watch the occasional game, but more to watch prospects than anything else. Never was a big UM or UF fan, probably FSU more than those two- and them not as much lately because they just haven't been as good. No distinct allegiences, though.

p.s. I saw a piece on the Gators last night- if I heard correctly they have 12 guys on the team that run a sub 4.4.

Thats what they said last yr about McFadden. Never over draft a RB. Look at Slaton, and McClain for example. Overall it depends on who's doing the drafting. If for example we were. I would take Crabtree, or maybe a strong D player, anyone from USC,.

Detroit is better off trading the pick for more picks they are more then just one player away from winning.

Hmmm, If I was building a team the first guy I would want is a great ILB. I know Lauranitis is getting lots of hype, but I think Ray Manaluga is a better option in the middle. I'd take Aaron Curry with the view to move him into the middle because he is probably the top linebacker in the draft, but I'd try to be creative with him and line him up outside from time to time to take advantage of his pass rushing abilites.

    True that.
1st round recievers go wrong more often than they go right, and I don't see what's so different about Crabtree.
I think the best wideout in the draft will be either Darrius Heyward Bey, or Maclin, if he's not taken to high. Too high = Too much pressure + most probably bad QB.

The problem with taking wideouts so early is most of the teams that draft these guys early NEED solid play out of them right away which is alot to ask of college receivers. They do not run routes nor do they have the awareness to be #1, or even #2's right away and teams dont have the patience or sometimes the vets to coach them.

Man this is a tough question to ask right now with not every name out there but I would have to go with Sam Bradford. The guy can do it all and he can lead a team. With so many LT's in the draft at 33 there could be a Ciron Black or Russell Okung so I would go QB first.

IU? Is that Iowa? You a farm boy? ;)

College ball is tough unless you went to that school I suppose. I follow FSU but man we've been mediocre the last decade or so. I like college football because it's college football. History, pageantry and the fact that 120,000 people will go to a stadium to see 18 year old kids throw a pigskin around.

That doesn't surprise me re: Florida.

I was thinking the same thing. Lock down he RT spot for years to come. However here would be my top 3 at this moment.

    1. Michael Oher
    2. Andre Smith
    3. Michael Crabtree

    The post funk era
    I'd take Knowshon Moreno.

To me he is 1/3 Marcus Allen 1/3 Roger Craig and 1/3 Ricky Waters "before he went to Philly and got gator arms"

If Miami had the pick again i'd pick Andre Smith make him a LG and spend the next 10 years running to the left.
