I hope our front three looks like this Next year Dorsey(6'2 302 lbs)- Paul Solial( 6'4 344lbs)- Rod Wright(6'5 315) Dorsey we know can be dominant Rod Wright Can play the only is question Paul Solial( I am hoping he can be our Haloti Ngata) Depth(MAth Roth/ Vonnie Holiday) Math Roth IMO should start if we go in 4-3 formation. With this three or Four upfront I think we can have a dominant front three that can be Dominant.
holiday will beat out wright but that is an ok front i think soliai better prove he was worth that pick
I did not watch Dorsey all year, but i will say that during the game MON night - he was man-handled by #71 from OSU. He didn't impress me at all. If Dorsey is 'that' good, i'd like to have that OL on my team. Chris Long, conversely, did dominate his game.
Don't sleep on Rod Wright. He is going to end up being a good player for us and will eclipse Holliday sooner or later.
Vonnie gets too high a salary to be "depth" hes going to start. I havent seen really anything from Solia that tells me he can start. Hope im wrong
It depends what we decide to do - don't it. If we really want to run 3-4 we need LB's that are studs not necessarily D-lineman that are although talent is talent and you never run away from it. But really you have to look at it like this, if we: 1. Vernon Gholston 2a. Red Bryant or 1. Glenn Dorsey 2a. Quentin Groves or 1. Glenn Dorsey 2b. Chris Ellis (witch might explain why parcells was there - I know I'm reaching here but i don't think it was for Adibi, but maybe Hall.)
IF Dorsey was double teamed, i would cut him some slack - but more often than not, he was NOT and Rehring just dominated him. DT or not - getting knocked to the ground is NOT your job.
Dorsey got owned. First Pouncey, now this. If he doesn't expect to get double teamed in the NFL think again. Everytime someone runs an Iso or Zone blocks he'll be doubled, he needs to learn to rip through or cut and create a pile. I only saw him look explosive maybe twice. I'm just not as impressed as you guys and every SEC loving announcer who talks about Dorsey as much as three Timmy Tebow, even when he doesn't play in the game.
Really, we need to draft one. Only thing is though there really isn't too much in the talent pool this year IMO. Red Bryant is a prime candidate, but he has some red flags so Parcells might not want him - although he is talented enough. B.J. Raji was declared academically ineligible for this last season. So he should probably enter the draft, and he could be had in the 4th or 5th probably. He is a little on the short side, so we would have to see his arm length, and his ability to use his hands. Frank Morton - Tulane - http://tulanegreenwave.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/morton_frank00.html
Paul Soliai is probably still too raw to trust with a starting NT position. If Dallas cuts ties with Jason Ferguson, as has been speculated, I believe we'd go after him almost immediately.
Steve Rehring will be a Junior next year, and a top five pick after that probably. 6-8 329 sophmore, holy cow man… I wasn’t the only one who was watching him against Dorsey.
I've been looking to find any info on why they switched him to guard from a tackle, but one thing's for sure - he's one of the craziest guards I've ever seen. Huge part of the success the OSU offense has had. Between their LT Alex Boone and Rehring there's two 6'8 300+ pound guys pushing that side of the line. Dunno if Rehring redshirting 2005 had anything to do with his switch in positions when coupled with Boone being pretty good, but in absence of any contrary information that's what I'm going with.
I love how you experts have already passed judgment on Dorsey based on his performance against Ohio State, without having access to game film or the experience to properly analyze each play of the game. It's a known fact that Dorsey is double-teamed, and sometimes triple-teamed when you consider chip blocks, on virtually every play of every game. I'm not sure if Dorsey will pan out at the NFL level (it's always a crap shoot) but to say that he got manhandled and to pass final judgement in this manner is irresponsible to say the least.
YOu're blind! Dorsey DOMINATED that entire game....double, triple team didnt matter he's an animal and if we cant get him lower than #1 we should keep the # 1 and get that man in aqua and orange...........Black Uniforms would be tight too just thrown that out there
It's the ridiculous mentality that if Dorsey isn't in the backfield on every play, he's getting owned. A lot of misguided people seem to think all top prospects are and should play like Supermen.
Lotta that going around. There were maybe 1 or 2 plays where Rehring held his own 1 on 1, but Dorsey was doubled constantly and was sealed off on counter plays where Chris Wells broke the long one. I was pretty impressed with Dorsey coming away from that game, and was even more impressed at some of the plays he made in the Auburn game AFTER that vicious, illegal, chop-block. Again, I think it comes down to Dorsey or Chris Long if we stay put, but if we trade down, my darkhorse (and who I'd personally like us to end up with as Parcells continues his search for the next Lawrence Taylor) would be Vernon Gholston. I just don't know if I'd be willing to shell out $60M to a 3-4 DE or a NT at the #1 overall spot though, hence why I'd rather go with Gholston who can drop in coverage, rush the passer, and can play opposite Joey Porter and/or Quentin Moses in a 3-4 if you move Porter inside.
I think that's pretty much where we are at in the third, but I don't know if a trade down partner is going to emerge.
Sorry Mrtree, I don't really get your post. It's been a long day of class, so I apologize if I'm just being dumb.
I hope not....why would we want to draft Dorsey and play him at a position that is NOT his best? You guys don't get it...Dorsey's a great DT in a 4-3 defence...he's not a DE in a 3-4 defence......I can see more Holiday, Roth and Wright as our DE's and us taking Chris Long who IS a DE and we can leave him as a DE, his best position......at NT we need to bring another guy in...the jury's still out on Solai but even if he works out we'd need another guy to rotate with him. Ozzy rules!!
Actually the 1st pick in the NFL draft, I guy who will get huge dollars, and is considered the lowest risk in the draft...should be superman. You don't draft a project player in the first 1-2 rounds, much less the first pick.
Then why do QB's get so overdrafted then? So mnay end up going number one when really it is the number one position in terms of bust potential. What is it just under half of all quarterbacks taken in the first have amounted to anything. If we used your logic then we should have no fear in that situation, right. Afterall we are drafting superman.
So let me get this straight. In your world, a player is either superman or a project player? Dorsey is far from a project. In fact, he was so dominant in college that he won all three major awards given to lineman. Moreover, he did have a "superman" type effort in the national championship. But when you're a nose tackle, that doesn't necessarily mean a bunch of sacks and tackles for a loss. Usually, the best tackles are guys that protect their linebackers by eating 2 or 3 blockers (ex: Tim Bowens) and maybe get a little bit of quarterback pressure to boot (Corey Simon in his prime). That's what Dorsey is. Again, I'm not even sure I want him as the No. 1 overall pick, but not because he's not worthy. It's just that I feel trading down would be our best offense. But those of you saying he got owned or is a project, etc...are being irresponsible fans at best.
Yeah this season Holiday will start over Wright. But I do see Wright being a BEAST on the DLINE. He has the talent and quickness to wreak havoc on the QB & RB's. That is why I would draft Chris Long over Dorsey. I think we have a star coming in Wright, if he can stay heathly. We are gonna need Chris Long for the run stuffing & QB sacking machine that he is. I think Soliai is about 3 seasons away, including this one for being ready to start. I do not know why... I just think he will bloom late and we need to keep him for 3+ more seasons. He will get a shot in a season or two.
the only is question Paul Solial( I am hoping he can be our Haloti Ngata)>>>>>> Tell me your kidding!!!!! Solai to be Ngata??? Solai was a major dissapointment when on the field this year, I would no be suprised AT ALL if Bill lets him go....
