what!!!! youve got to be kidding me! I didnt even think he was a serious contender for the award. I thought it was between Reed, Ware, and Polamalu. A crying shame. Without Polamalu, Harrison wouldnt be free to be so agressive. Their entire defense hinges on Troy's excessively large manhood.
Reed can only make interceptions. He doesn't really make tackles or blitz or anything. I know that isn't his job, but I think you need to be able to do multiple things to earn the award.
He deserves it, Reed may be playing better than anyone right NOW but over the course of the season its hard to argue against this guy. Haynesworth deserves to be in the argument too.
16 sacks. 100 tackles. 7 forced fumbles I believe. Definitely deserves it. Harrison is a joy to watch on the field.
Everytime I watched the Steelers Harrison and the young kid opposite him (forget his name offhand dammit) were tearing things up. Definately a playmaker. I didnt want it to go to Ware because of the Cowboys collapse. IMO he didnt help elevate his team, but had a great solo act nonetheless. Ed Reed has come on strong but hasnt been there all season. Porter started strong but faded a bit at the end. Haynesworth had a monster season too, should of been him and Harrison imo.
He led my IDP team to Fantasy Glory! (well...he hurt me when he didn't play the last week but LT was free to pick up the slack)
No one will convince me Ed Didn't deserve the award. Ed had a league-leading 9 interception, no one came within a pick of him. He scored 3 times (the only time James Harrison showed up on the scoredboard was when he snapped the ball over his punter's head). Had more sacks and forced fumbles than Troy Polamalu. But his stats aren't the reason his season was so impressive, it's the circumstance. Ed has been playing all year with a potentially career ending injury in his shoulder, one that if he opts for surgery, his playing days will be over. Ed Reed has willing to hit and tackle even though he is severely risking his career every time he does. Also consider that Ed Reed played on a team without a bye week. If it wasn't Reed, then it should have been Ware. That man has been scarily consistent. He got to the quarterback on almost every play. And IIRC, he was only shut out (without a sack) once all season. And Ware is on a team where he's drawing all the double teams. In Pittsburgh, Lineman have to key in on Woodley and Timmons as well as Harrison.
Troy Polamalu had 7 Harrison rushes the QB, stops the run, drops into coverage - 1 INT & 3 passes defenced - and plays on special teams. He's a complete player. I didn't realize Ed Reed was hurt - he's a tough SOB. But he isn't alone. and yet in the biggest game of the year - against Philly - with the playoffs on the line, he had 4 tackles.
Lots of guys had seven. No one had 8, only Reed had 9. Ed Reed does those things too, he does alot less of stopping the run and rushing the QB, Reed does alot more pass coverage (25 PD) and I'd say they do about the same in ST. Like I mentioned, Harrison cost his team with that bad snap. I know it's not his speciality, but still. This is true, but Ed Reed was picking off 2 passes a game down the stretch, when it mattered. But he's being criticized for not being so dominant early in the season.
