Just finished watching the Orange Bowl and there were 2 guys that play for the Bearcats I really focused all of my attention on or as much as I possibly could. One guy I like, Connor Barwin, I will save for another day. The other player, Trevor Canfield the 6'5" 305 lb RG for the bearcats.

Just to keep things simple a list of things I liked with Canfield.

    1. Really fires off the ball and gives the defender a jolt once the ball is snapped and never stops hustling until the whistle is blown. On running plays he gets after his designated target, latches on and rides him as hard as he can.

    2. Aggressive, almost to the point of being just down right nasty. There were at least 4 to 5 plays in pass pro where Canfield would jolt the guy in front of him backwards then rush over to help the RT while he was engaged with a DE. Canfield would come over and hit the DE on the side and just blow him up. On at least 2 plays Canfield basically took the defender in front of him right off his feet and body slammed him.

    3. Not the quickest G I have seen mind you, but the guy gets into the 2nd level very well and engulfs the LB when he does.

    4. Keeps his knees bent and his feet under him for a good base most of the time, although his aggressiveness can sometime cause him to over extend or get a little sloppy with his technique.

    5. Canfield is basically a 4 year starter for the Bearcats at RG. He started the last eight games in his redshirt freshman year and has not come off the field since.

Some things I did not like about his game.

    1. On a few occasions I noticed Canfiled would allow the defender to turn him sideways and on one occasion even spin him around during pass pro. Not sure if that was him not keeping his shoulders square or lack of footwork on his part. I am sure Boomer or Con would pick this up after looking at game tape.

    2. Not the most athletic guy at the position, was not able to catch him on any plays where he had to pull and get out in front of the RB. Again, I notice at times he gets sloppy with his footwork and technique, but my view was it was due to him getting a little over aggressive at times.

Overall I have seen Canfield with a RD 3 - 4 grade and I would agree with that. Will be interesting to keep an eye on him at the combine to see how his workout goes as he could climb up the boards with a stellar workout.

Just for one simple attribute that I really like in the guy as an OL. His aggression and nasty streak. Just on that alone I would have no problems if we selected him next year.

From VTECH or Cincinnati? Sorry, like I said, spent almost all my time focused on Canfield when the bearcats were on offense and Barwin when they were on Defense.

Number 95 for Cinci is Terrill Byrd.

Was an All American last year. IF he was still there in the 5th round, would be all over him. Not sure he makes it that far, and chances are he would be a DE in the Pros.
Very very athletic, and can blow up plays as he did often last night.
Great attitude and a hard worker.
