You probably right, is not easy to understand Parcell ego, I guess giving him the possibility of taking 9 mill and run, without having the pressure to do better next year, considering the great achievement that the Dolphins obtain so far against all odds this year, can be very tempting.
This is exactly what it is, espescially if you believe Sid Rosenberg. This is just Parcell's patented move. He's so far removed from the day to day operation that it won't be a distraction and it's got people talking about him going elsewhere, he feels wanted, desired, etc. Then Ross plays ball, strokes his ego and we do this again in a year or two. It's part of the bargain when you hire Parcells.
He could only take one of the coaches. Unless their contracts are up. Also from what I understand it would take some work to be able to take Gaine as GM.
Well, that's the question, isn't it? Or the wildcard, so to speak. Does Ross play ball? I don't know the guy so I couldn't tell but I guess one has to at least account for the possibility that Ross isn't amused at all and tells him to go play golf.
I don't think we could prevent some assistants from bolting if they wanted to in the case of a promotion. Sure, we probably could if we played hardball but I don't see us doing that, especially after Dallas was so generous as to let the guys come over here without making a fuss about it. That one would be easy. Nothing we could do.
At the end of the day.. I really see nothing to worry about with Sparano and Ireland. It's my understanding that both of these guys wanted to make their own name for themselves, not live off Parcells coat tails forever. Even if Parcells leaves, Sparano and Ireland will have their home in Miami. This is their team and it will be their legacies, not BP's. Now let's get back to work.
good point, and i agree. i mean, obviously there is a cross roads ahead. hopefully we get BP on board, get things ironed out, and it all works out in the end.
Only promotion that counts for assistents is head coach. So unless he hires them all as head coach, unless their contracts run out or Miami lets them out of the contracts he can only hire one of them as a head coach. In the front office, if the person is under contract, the only way for Parcells to hire the guy to be the GM would be if the guy had final say. WHich would be much harder to convince anyone since Parcells is the coach and is hiring the guy. In Miami he had a non football title.
Lets not give the FO too much credit. According to the agent, it was them that targeted Miami. Miami still had to sign him, but it's not as if after the draft they were dialing Bess. It was the other way around.
Well, to be totally honest about it, Tuna will leave and we will be better for it. I'd prefer he stay at least another year, but if he leaves, the apron strings will be cut and perhaps Ireland and others will blossom even further. He stopped HCing due to major league health issues, that and owning 5% of the Phins makes me doubt this move...right now...down the road..probably.
Well, I missed the most of it, but caught the end. On ESPN, they had Miami beatwriter "Darlington"? hope that is right, said he doesn't see Bill leaving, but working out a 1 million dollar raise, from 4 to 5. Maybe someone else saw it and can break it down. Thanks
Schefter just reported on the NFLN, that league wide sentiment, of folks who know BP, say that he'll probably STAY.
Looking for the RIGHT job huh? Looks like New York Jets have an opening once again. Imagine that Nightmare scenario!!
Perfect point. If there's one chance to get a huge and sweet extension, it's now, when he just got this team from hell to heaven. It's the best scenario imo to ask for a raise. The fans are crazy, everybody is amused by this turnaround. Next year if we go 13-3 he'll have the chance again, but not as now, because a winning season next year will be the expectation. Now is the best chance to increase the paycheck, tha fanbase is salivating for a bright future.
Plus why would any one want him as a head coach if he has health problems. You dont know how long he will be there for. I think he stays here.
A guy that has the itch to coach again, but doesn't even travel to the road games to be with the team? I'm not saying its not true...but I'll believe it when I see it.
When this news started creeping out yesterday, I thought that too. Then I started googling for some information. If he still has the same girlfriend (Kelly Mandart) they live in Saratoga. She has a foundation or something up there. From all reports I have seen (and they are summer, 2008 reports) he still resides in Saratoga. Sure he has a house in Jupiter but it's still more like the vacation home. IMO the South Florida job still falls under "travel required".
I dont want to even think about it. But I was watching ESPN today and the little bottum line thing when it was on the NFL section of it it talked about all the teams that have job openings and Bill Parcells name never came up once.
like other posters have said. this is the perfect time for a raise. heck, all of us would do the same if we here in Tuna's place.
The only plausible factor that makes any sense to me, would be if tension exists between Steve Ross and Parcell's, and "if" Peter King's vague bit of heresay, claiming that the Tuna, isn't Ross's "cup of tea", is accurate. Otherwise, theres very little reason to believe Bill Parcells has any motivation, to venture elsewhere for any new rebuilding efforts at this point in his life. After all, coming here was based on an idea Huizenga proposed to an already retired Parcell's, who although was sought by Atlanta, remained clearly adamant in his decision not to coach anymore. VP of Football Ops otoh, allowed an acceptable mix of football and freedom, which until last weekend's rumor mill fired up, appears to have suited him, and the project as well, if not even better than expected. This project however, remains far from complete, and given the current, and potential success that most indicators promise, may be the very factor prompting Huizenga's reasoning to sell now, at a time when the Tuna actually has no interest to leave, rather than wait for a time, that would better coincide, and gift wrap for Parcells the perfect exit pass. The other point that seems questionable, is that Parcell's could already be interested in staffing yet another team with coaching personnel, and rounding up yet another core group of players to build upon. The proverbial well of talent is obviously limited, otherwise he would never have raided the Cowboys of coaches and players to the extent they have. With Dallas, he had no such committment, or legacy to endure as he now does in Miami. To rebuild any other organization, he'd arguably be hard pressed to do so, without pulling from, or depreciating his work here, let alone without his prodigious ally and advisor Jeff Ireland.
I think people are making a big deal about the media throwing out names. It's what they do. Obviously anyone with a football IQ will be named as replacements until the franchises choose someone.
