The top names getting tossed around are Steve Spagnuolo, parcells, Cowher, and possibly Gruden if TB fires him.
The Jets are looking for stability, Parcells does not bring that. He never stays long and it should not surprise us that he could leave. Francesa just said (He is best friends with Parcells) that he will never coach again. He can be a free agent if the sale of the team goes through, but that sale might not be complete until spring, so he wouldn't be free until than.
Cowher already said he is staying in carolina and turned down the Browns. The names being heavily mentioned are (Marty S, Mariucci and Holgrem if Farve stays) if Farve goes, than they will go a younger guy route.
If Brett does come back for another year, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone from Holmgren's tree get the job, in an effort to appease his majesty. Maybe it's someone like a Steve Marriuci or even Holmgren himself. I don't see Tampa cutting ties with Chucky, but he comes from the Holmgren tree as well, so it's a fit if they were to let him walk.
UPDATE: Favre asked to stay after Mangini's exit http://www.northjersey.com/sports/jets/REPORT_Jets_to_fire_Mangini.html
Francesa said don't buy into those reports, he is very happy being a VP and having the freedom to come and go when he pleases. Says he will never coach again. I won't say it will never happen, but Francesa usually knows what Parcells is doing.
eek. holmgren said he would be taking a year off because he promised his wife. I think they mentioned this during the seattle/eagles game a few weeks back.
I duno if anyone else saw it, but there was a segment with Parcells on HBO awhile back (I think it was Real Sports). It pretty much reiterated what he ^ just said. He's happy with his job and never wants to coach again. I really can't see him going through the grind of a coaching job again.
If tuna goes to coach the Jets, every game between the Dolphins, Jets, and Pats becomes the chess game of the century.
Thanks. I heard that Cowher won't coach anywhere next year, I think he covets Carolina and is comfortable recharging some more. Bill ain't leaving, not this year, I think he stays 2 years minimum, and maybe one after that if we are seriously contending for a ring. Gruden would be interesting, I was among those that would not have minded if he had come to Miami, Chucky would sell seats. He would be a good catch I think. I just don't know enough about Spagnuola to have any thoughts, but I suspect I will be learning more now.
He said no to the Browns already, if he said no to them, I think hed definately say no to the Jets.. Why a respected coach and analyst would decide to partner with the white trash of the NFL is besides me.. I dont see it happening.
Tannenbaum was just on with Francesa, Mangini was the only one fired, the other coaches are still under contract.
