After such a great turnaround this season, we're still not supposed to win on Sunday. The majority of commentators on ESPN are picking the Jets to win and the Pats to go to the playoffs. Even with the Jags sucking this year, the CBS network stations in my area are STILL showing that stupid game over the Phins/Jets game. In the newspapers, the latest line says the Jets are supposed to win by 3 points. I hope a win tomorrow will show people we're a real good team, and not a real lucky one who wins with trick plays. And maybe we'll get a bit more tv coverage in Central Florida. GO DOLPHINS!
For sure. I'm up in Gainesville for X-mas and the CBS station is out of Jax so it's definitely not on here. I've seen 3 Dolphins games on tv in Daytona Beach this year.
I'm glad the Jets are favored. Who cares really? If the Dolphins can use something like this to help get fired up then that's a good deal. I really don't want the Pats to win the division. I was hoping the Jets actually won last weekend so that couldn't happen. Stupid Jets.
Strangely enough the panhandle has stayed loyal to the Dolphins for the most part. I'm in Panama City for the holidays and they showed Miami last weekend and they're showing them again on Sunday. Pretty much every time I come down here during football season they show the Dolphins. Not every time but most of the time.
I said it in other posts. The Dolphins have never gotten the respect and recognition they deserve. Even during the 70's, very few acknowledged their accomplishments. I've never figured out why. We sure got a lot of press last year, why not during any of our good seasons? Especially how we've come back this year! I don't believe in conspiracies etc., but I do think they've been slighted as far as any good press.
Actually, on ESPN, six of eight pick the Fins on the Expert Picks page. Same on The Sporting News. All of which scares the hell out of me.
I'll check that out. The two guys doing Sportscenter this morning picked the Jets, Trent Dilfer from ESPN Primetime picked 'em, and one of two guys on Mike & Mike in the morning picked 'em too. It's cool being the underdog, but a few props would be nice too. It'll be great to stop seeing everybody kneeling in front of the Patriots.
JD... I can only say that the Phins might play down to the level of competition again and only win by a small margin...
Hey I saw you're stuck in gainesville for xmas, don't worry you can still watch the game. Go to Gumbys/Court of Hero's Bar. They broadcast every phins game and there is usually a contingent of fans there. It's located in the 34th street plaza on 34th street right next to the hilton.
I think we're getting more respect than you are making this out to be. The Jags game is on in Orlando more because of Jacksonville having a small market that needs to be "filled up" so to say. 7 out of 10 of ESPN's "experts" chose Miami to win. 4 out of 5 of the Sunday Countdown crew chose Miami to win. 2 out of 10 of the Fox Sports "experts" chose Miami to win. 2 out of 3 of the Yahoo! "experts" chose Miami to win. 3 out of the 6 CBS Sportsline "experts" chose Miami to win. It's not like no one thinks we'll win like you're suggesting...
I don't remember suggesting that, only that it was looking like the majority of broadcaster's was going for the Jets. But thanks for the input.
You are correct Marty, there are still a lot of Dolphin fans up here in Jaguar territory. I think thats why they flexed their game with ours. No problem though with NFL sunday ticket.
I live here in Gainesville Florida (yes, home of the Gators!). Not only do we only get Jag and Bucs games but we get little reporting. Last night on the local news they were going over how "your favorite" teams could get into the Play Offs. They said the Jets could get in with a win over Miami.....................AND NEVER MENTIONED MIAMI GETTING IN WITH A WIN OVER THE JETS! Damn.................
I looked in the paper this morning and was surprised how many home teams with worse records were favored. The Giants game is a special case, because they have home field locked up. But there were a number of other examples. Bottom line, it's not too surprising that a 9-6 team at home is favored over a 10-5 team on the road. I keep reminding myself of the predictions I read before the season that the Dolphins would win four or five this year -- and I agreed with those predictions. It's been so much better this year than I expected.
