Thanks. Damn good writeups on both Chad and Ricky. I hope that we see both next season and if we do, it will an even better year for both of them IMHO.
Cruising through some JetFan forums, it occured to me that the problem with Pennington is/was that he supposedly held the them back from advancing in the playoffs, that his limitations effectively "guaranteed" that they would not make any noise once they got to the big dance. I disagree with that notion, Qb is such a difficult position to fill that when you have a guy who is efficient, doesn't turn the ball over, and can avoid key sacks, you can win even in the playoffs with a Qb like that, as long as the Staff gameplans around those limitations AND your defense is up to snuff. We could have a three year window with Chad Pennington at Qb, if folks think Pennington will "Hold Henne back", well look at Aaron Rodgers up in Green Bay, he sat for three years, stepped into the lineup and the Packers offense didn't miss a beat, if anything three years learning under Chad P will put Chad Henne far ahead of the learning curve. John Beck as well.
I hope he stays, he's been great for us and can only be better for the guys around / learning from him. I've been proven wrong from my initial thoughts about Chad and am happy to admit that.
Me too - initially I hated the pickup. Now I couldn't be more happy. He's brought leadership, talent and hope for the future to this former 1 and 15 franchise.
I was onboard with the pickup mainly because he was better then what we had at the time. However, the benefits that have occurred since his arrival makes this decision the steal of the year, maybe decade in the landscape of the NFL. Hard to find one player move that has had the value to a team that Chad has had to ours .
Reading that really makes you appreciate the man, not just the player. Some guys want to come to Miami just for the money and the tax breaks. Pennington really seems to want to be here, and I welcome him with open arms. I'm proud to have him as my QB, not just because of his play, but because of what he brings to this team as a person. I also hope that when he decides to hang it up, he sticks around and continues to coach up Henne.
Man. I remember when it was weird, now I feel like he's always been a Dolphin. I couldn't imagine saying this last year, or even 6 months ago, but I hope he is ALWAYS a member of the Dolphins.
I remember the days when I thought 2 years and 11.5 million was extremely overpaying for Chad. Wow, was I wrong on so many levels. This was a man I despised just a year ago. I didn't have one nice thing to say about him. 20 weeks later and I can say that I've never like a QB this much since Marino.
I knew he would make the team better but he has exceeded my wildest expectations. I hope he retires in Miami and then begins a coaching career in Miami.
I have ZERO loyalty to Chad Henne. Chad Pennington has won 10 games for us so far. He's my QB until someone else beats him out.
You gotta' wander if all of Chad's insane dedication this year, and all the success that has come with it, is tied to the single most embarassing event a human can experience; rejection from those you consider friends. Sure, he always prepared. But like Sparano said, some of the stuff Chad is doing with preparation has never been seen before. He's a man hellbent on proving not only the Jets wrong, but his own self doubt created from the firing. All I can say is "thank you" Jets. On another note, I wander if this same act could help to motivate the rest of the Dolphins players. Think about it, Chad has become the "savior" of this team. He's very well respected as a player and as a leader. He's sort of like everybody's big brother. Now think of how you'd feel if your much respected and admired big brother just got his but kicked by three guys who jumped him. What'ya do? You get every family member rounded up and you go a-huntin' for some butt kickin'. Do you think that these Dolphins, especially the OL and WR and RB (Pennington deciples), have been given a shot of a little extra anger and determination toward the Jets because they snuffed their boy? I could see it happening.
Rivers had time to marinate in SD too. I think if Henne/Beck can sit for three years it would be fantastic for our depth chart. I fully look forward to Chad Pennington as our qb and leader for the next 2 years at least. I'm mighty sick of having to worry abotu the qb "prospect" to take or not to take each draft. Now we have a tremendous starter, and two young guys waiting in wings. The next few drafts will be nice not having to even think abotu that position.
I'm tempering my feelings of Chad. I love our season, and how he's performed. But he has to show me he can have two good seasons in a row first. Something, due to injury or what not, he hasn't done yet. But I'm cheering for him to break that streak. Think about all the one hit wonder teams over the years, I don't want to be one of them.
Not really knowing Penny save that he was a HATED Jet I was against him coming here. I believed all the negatives that everyone was saying and really had no idea about the real Pennington. I now believe, as most here, that without Chad we would NOT be where we are today. Not only in reguards to record but also in team chemistry. Chad brings so very much to the table in terms of team chemistry, its unbelieveable! I truly believe he alone "wills" those 4th quarter TDs, another Dan Marino in the huddle, if you will. I'm not saying Chad is Dan but I am saying that he brings that same swagger, that same "we can't lose as long as there is time on the clock" attitude that has been missing since #13 walked off the field of play. Damn I'm glad hes ours!!
It would really be ironic if Miami and Pennington beats the Jets with Bret Favre and eliminates them from any hope for the playoffs. If that happens I am sure the Jets will hear it from their fans for letting Pennington go for Favre. It could make Favre reconsider retiring again and then where would the Jets be? I bet Pennington is really happy and excited to be in this position after being dumped by the Jets.
I had an idea about the real Pennington because I watched him kick our butts enough times. I just wasn't sure if his health would hold up. Thankfully it has.
The last article makes me hopefully that Ronnie can have a big game. Give him the ball! Gotta love Ronnie's attitude though.
Conventional wisdom says: come on now, one FA pick up isn't going to take a team from rags to riches - it just doesn't happen. But Pennington seems to b a rare breed. He has in fact made a huge difference. Even the players on defense seem to like the guy. That doesn't always happen. For the sake of continued progress, I hope Pennington sticks around for another 2 years. Hopefully he's healthy for that time, too. After a season and then a full off season and preseason working together we could see an awfully good offense fielded next September.
Win or lose on Sunday, I hope Chad is with us a long time. He is so much better than any QB we have had since Marino. This past year has wonderful and regardless of what happens Sunday, I am a very happy and proud Phin fan. A win over the Jets would just be icing on the cake. After the season is over, I am going to write Chad a letter thanking him for all he has done: Chad Pennngton C/O The Miami Dolphins 7500 SW 30th Street Davie, Florida, 33314
I knew what we were getting when we got Chad. Living in NY i always got a chance to watch him play and i despised him as much as brady, even more because he always beat us. Miami had Brady's number like Chad had ours. I hated him for it. As much as i hated him, i always had a great respect for him. I liked him as a player, and felt he was the smartest football player in the league... I was glad when the Jets go Favre because i knew he would go to Miami and help us out big time. Now i did not expect him to play this well but i knew he would play well! I thought maybe 6-10 season with chad, and i would have been happy! Chad will always have a special place with dolphin fans regardless of what happens next week. Pennington is in the dolphin family for life! He may not be here as a player for that long, 2 more years max but i believe after those two years Pennington may be a QB coach or involved in the dolphin organization in some shape and form... I hope he has a long career here as a player/coach!
I agree, as it boiled my butt yesterday when I heard Skip Bayless say, "by far the best FA pickup in the off-season last year was Michael Turner for the Falcons". I nearly fell off my chair. How could anyone (unless they have an agenda) not say the Penny is BY FAR the best and most important FA pickup last year ?????
That's because Skip Clueless is so old that he can't see the tv any more and is pissed at the world because HD doesn't help him I don't listen to him because he just blah, blah, blah. Kind of like that bald dumbarse on ESPN, Tony Kornupmybutt.
Yea, his job could be to stir the pot. I usually don't listen to tv guys about football unless they are ex-players. They usually know their stuff, may not always agree with them, but atleast they have been there.
That's exactly MY thinking -- he's an incredible role model, but what better mentor for a new QB? This is just all falling into place...
I believe that a large number of QBs have been failures b/c they were thrown in too quickly. Particularly those QBs that were in predominantly shotgun offenses in college. IMO those guys need a minimum of three years.
Guys and gals, IMO, what Mangini did was no surprise to me... He was the new HC on a team that did not have his QB at the helm... Mangini did what many ohter coaches do when he starts with a new team, sooner or later he picks thru draft or FA the QB he wants... that it lasted a little over 2 years to before he finally sit him down do to injuries or what ever, he had already made up his mind... Pennington in 2002 played extremely well dispite being his first season starting...
Some people may take this as a bit harsh but i couldnt agree more. I really am rooting for the guy and love what hes done for us. But his history with injuries and how he immeidietely recovers from them is concerning. I have faith in him and if he can prove that wont be a huge issue next year than he will surely become one of my favorite phins players of all time.
Chad has been huge no doubt about it. But one could make an argument for Turner. He's been great for Atlanta and is the main reason for the Falcons success this season, imo. Similarily, Chad is the main reason for our success this year. The missing piece that both teams desperately needed.
