One of those 3 teams has to fall out of the playoff race. That's not earth shattering, its mathematics.

David Price, however talented he may be, will not be keeping the Red Sox out of the postseason. That's delusional.

No delusional is consistently expecting the Yankees to fall apart. They owned you for eight years and now after five years magically the Red Sox are always going to be better?:pointlol:

David Price kept you out of the World Series.

Right now I see the Red Sox second in that division but you never know how things will go during the season. To just pass it off though. That's delusional.

So what does this do to Manny? It was looking like the Yankees were the only team who'd come through with an offer he'd like, and the Angels said today there's no chance Manny plays in Anaheim...so what's left for him? Is he running back to the Dodgers to see if their offer is still on the table?

10M or 20M over 8 years, I was ready to kick Cashman's butt when the reports were we werent even bidding...so as I said, for stepping in and keeping it under the $200/10 that Tex/Boras originally wanted, I would have been ticked if NY didnt land him based on final #s of 8/170 or 8/180.

P.S. I still think a Salary Cap is needed....

I don't know where you're referencing the whole Yankees collapsing thing. Its quite simple, Mark Teixeira doesn't put the Yankees over the top. Pitching wins my friend, and their ace hasn't done anything to prove he can win a big game.

Also, you must be joking about the David Price comment. Yeah, he singlehandedly kept us out of the World Series. Longoria, Pena, Upton and Garza had nothing to do with it.

Yes the Price part was a joke.

    Their pitching is quite good.

Well I hate that you guys stepped in spent the money, but I still dont think baseball needs a salary cap

If anything have a salary floor imo. The teams that spend 20 mill total annoy me as much if not more than the Yankees overpaying.

I'm sure it'll be reigned in in both directions eventually.

It was looking like Manny was being Manny, making stuff up about who he thought would come through.

I beg Cashman to stay out of the Manny fodder. Let him go back to LA-LA land (Dodgers or Anaheim).

Why would Ana remove themselves from Manny???

Better yet, who is your target for 1B now??

I am not ready to think that way.

Yes I think the Yankees are the first. The Red Sox are second and the Rays as of now still lack the umph to carry them through the regular season.

Pena-Longoria-Crawford is not enough in that division.

The Yankees order is absolutely bastardly. They're pitching is very good as far as regular season guys go. Sabbathia won't fade in the regular season. It's in the post-season where you're vulnerable.

Said the OF is set and that Manny wouldnt be signed. Guess we're happy with Vlad/Hunter/Rivera (just resigned)/GMJ rotating through the OF and DH again.

1B atm is Kendry Morales, which doesnt really upset me. Young switch hitter with power, kind of want to see what he can do if given a chance. He's tearing up the winter league atm, but he's obviously no Teixeira lol. FA targets have been rumored to be Dunn and Pat Burrell, but not sure if they'll turn to them now.

They'll probably search for someone to trade for like Joey Votto or Adrian Gonzales. They have the talent to do so.

    Oh lol

I could see it. They had career years from Youks and Pedroia. If Papi is starting to slide, and it wasnt just the wrist, that offense wont be what it once was. I wouldnt count them out though.

Gonzalez would be a great target for ANA....give the Padres owner anything..he simply needs $$$$ for the divorce split.

I read an SI article that mentioned the Peavy trade to Cubs, and when the rumor was that Cubs were giving up 5 players, the joke was no way was that a legit rumor, cause you cant split 5 players evenly in a divorce.

...does this mean A-Rod will now want out of NY(I'll give it a year)...since he's no longer top dog????....my Halos could use a 3rd baseman(now) but ok for 2010...

Tex signing doesnt reduce Arod exposure, he is #1 player in baseball, and until he wins Championship, NY owns him....he cant walk away without a title, he longs to be viewed as a winner!

Tex may very well help him achieve it...then, who knows, I suspect anything is possible with a Ring on his finger.

But Arod is still Top Dog...Tex is his security blanket!!!

Swisher will be in there somewhere if he stays in Pinstripes...but still dont think we are done dealing.

Damon seems the logical one to keep via leadoff bat, etc. But DH as leadoff?? Swisher or Nady in LF??

Matsui is DH only I think based on knees....or is he traded? Is Swisher dealt now that Tex is in the mold if Damon is DH?

Lots of small questions remain, but Tex took away a huge set of questions...so I think Cashman isnt done dealing yet.

Cabrera will really have to shine in Spring to get on the 40 man and stay with the big club.

Good move by the Yankees. They needed someone like Teixeira for that line up. He's the perfect player for them right now.

I'm somewhat disappointed, as I did talk myself out of getting Teixeira last Friday and was fine with letting him go to LA or Washington. Him going to the Yankees hurts the Sox for sure but he's not going to be the one to put them over the top, it will be Sabathia, Burnett, and Joba's health/role. Like Patsy said pitching wins always.

It is funny though with all the talk about the Sox. They came within what 12 outs for making it to the World Series for the 3rd time in 5 years and that was without their starting 3rd baseman, a hurt ace, DH, SS and a blackhole behind the plate minus 1 at bat. I'm fine with laying low this year (maybe signing Derek Lowe if the money and years are right), obviously the Sox need a C and a 4th OFer but I'll take this team to war rather than spend a lot of money on players just for the sake of making a panic move who aren't worth it.

Honestly, we have 9 hitting spots to fill.

I think the untouchables are Jeter, Arod, Teixeira, and Posada....any of the other 5 could be packaged and dealt if Hal/Cashman felt the return would fill the holes the best.

I think we can all agree that we're glad Teixeira finally decided on a team because I'm sure everyone was getting annoying reading a new report on offers and who's in/who's out of it. I think the lesson to be learned here is not to believe anything written until official word gets out as these reporters are most of the time getting 3rd or 4th hand information, just guessing and/or flat out wrong.

I believe the Yankee's have spent more this off-season than Epstein has in his whole time as GM on Free Agents. I look for the Sox to now be aggressive during the season when cash strapped teams will be looking to deal there big contracts. A few months into the season and all kinds of guys will be shopped and only teams with money and players will get the deals, the Sox have both. Epstein may look brilliant still depending on what happens in markets like Houston, St. Louis, Colorado, San Diego, Seattle, Detroit just to name a few.

I actually hate the Sox more than the Yankees though seeing Tex go to them is not a fun thing to see. But then again, I hate almost everything Boston so at least the Sox didn't get Tex. Lesser of two evils IMO.

Dodgers are the only ones right now with an official offer which they later pulled. 2 years and a club option on the 3rd should be enough.

That's too high if you ask me.

The Yankee's sign $400+ million worth of players in a single offseason, the Sox sign nobody but a AA pitcher from Japan, and they still are catching a ton of hate.

Very true. People hate winning teams, unless it's their own. I'd rather have people hate my team than to feel sorry for the team like they did pre 2004.

    Per rotoworld:

Yahoo' Sports' Gordon Edes says the Mets and free agent Derek Lowe are now deep into talks.
It sounds like Lowe was hoping the Yankees would come through with a big offer, but there's very little chance of that now. The Red Sox aren't believed to have any interest in going past three years with him, while the Mets will probably be willing to sign him for four. He'll probably get $15 million-$16 million per year. Well then, you will be happy to know that I have ALWAYS hated the Red Sox. :hi5: I could tolerate them when they lost because, lets face it, they were the face of losing and bad luck.

But then when they won in 2004, the annoyance meter with their fans and the amount of bandwagoners sent me through the roof. Its worse than any Yankee homerism and has forced me to applaud Yankee moves just so that the Red Sox don't get that person.

Haha to each his own. I completely agree that once the Sox won the World Series in 2004 everyone from the fans, front office to the players themselves went completely overboard and over the top. But like you said the Sox were the face of losing and bad luck especially with all of that curse non sense etc.

And if I wasn't a Sox fan I'd probably hate them too. I completely understand where non-Sox fans are coming from and I respect that.
