I don't know about passed him by, he did a pretty good job this year, I think its more of the toll he went through this year emotionally than anything else.

"It was the toughest (season) for me," Gibbs said Monday. "When you go through a season like that, for a while it's kind of hard to re-grasp reality."

time management and certain rules i dont think he fully had though. calling two timeouts in a row. the whole bar i was at knew he couldnt do that

ill be interested to see who they bring in. they badly need a GM. snyder will throw endless $$ at his coaches though

Can't say I'm surprised Joe would hang up the headset ... I would have to think this year was especially trying for him. I thought he did a great job under challenging circumstances.

He's still by far one of if not THE best coach Washington has ever had.

Have heard that Gary Williams will more than likely be the guy to beat for the Washington job. They better not bring him in, reminds me of Cam, great cord. but not HC material.

I just saw the news.....well he can say he has a SB ring and was also successful in NASCAR. He has had a pretty good life. Best of luck to him.

Nope, but I think he thought so.

A league source tells PFT that contrary to popular belief, there is no guarantee in the contract of Redskins assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams that he will either be Joe Gibbs' successor or receive a bonus payment from owner Dan Snyder.

Def. He will still go down IMO as one of the greatest.

Daniel Snyder pretty much left him alone, and did not meddle. Gibbs is too highly respected to be subject to that. But whoever succeeds him might start having to put up with owner meddling again... unless Snyders learned a lesson.
Gibbs indeed was one of the great ones. I wonder if he'll go back to NASCAR involvement?

He never left Nascar, he still owned the team as far as I know?

Wow, Bill Cowher is supposedly the front runner... I thought he wasn't interested in coaching this year, guess it depends on the team....

I would think if he was that Cowher would have interviewed in Miami. Don't know if he and Parcel's get a long and maybe there would be friction with both personalities being strong and demanding. Since Cowher wouldn't be given final say over things here might explain why no interview.

I think you're right, I guess it's been on the back burner while he was so involved in coaching.

Gibbs' sons were running the nascar for him. and they still will. he said today in his PC that nascar will be a big part of his life but his sons will head that up

also, of course cowher would go to the skins, snyder would make him the first 10 million dollar coach. he woudlnt come here cause he wouldnt have total control. i still say gregg williams is next in DC

Best of luck to Gibbs. He's had a full career and shame to see it go out on a bad note. But he handled the Sean Taylor incident as well as you can hope.

Here's a name I'm floating out there as Gibbs' replacement-- Russ Grimm.

The guy is long overdue for a shot and spent 18 years in the Redskin org as a player and coach.

Williams is the front runner for now, but I can't help but think after Schottenheimer, the disaster that was Spurrier The NFL Coach and now Gibbs's return, Snyder might think about an infusion of "new blood" so to speak.

I've also heard several interesting rumors about Gruden possibly going to DC, but I don't know how serious to take them.

Joe Gibbs resigns from Redskins Head Coaching position

Washington Redskins Head coach and Hall of Fame member Joe Gibbs announced his Resignation from the Washington Redskins:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/sports/

Gibbs led them to the play offs 2 seasons, he was the best of the modern Skins HC's, the pool of prospects for HC is getting smaller and smaller though, Baltimore and Washington both are much better situations then what we have in Miami.

i saw this headline and thought he changed his mind and went back. I hate that the same word used for someone quitting is used for when someone rejoins or extends their contract. Resign and Re-sign, too similar.
