Record is 12 by the 1982 Chiefs BUT...It was a 9 game strike shortened season 14 is the least in a 16 game season.(1990 Giants) Thought that was interesting
I heard the commentators talking about it during the game, but isn't the 16 game record currently held by Bill Parcells' Giants?
The lack of turnovers is an amazing achievement. I'd point to the following factors, in the following order of importance: 1. Pennington. 412 attempts and 6 INTs. Wow. 2. Sparano. I can only assume that he's been touting ball-security in practice. 3. Luck. We've fumbled the ball plenty, but we've recovered most of them. Some of this is skill, but most of it is luck, cause the football bounces randomly.
It's something that coaches preach week in and week out, and IMO it is a major reason that we're are holding the keys to the Playoffs in our hands.
I don't want to jinx it because at this point if we won't break the record odds are we don't go to the playoffs.
This is amazing and one of the biggest reasons for our success. I hate to remember all the crappy QB's we've had here in the past, throwing that horrible out pattern that would get picked and returned for a TD and kill the game and our hopes for the season. Having a smart QB is so important for success. The QB of the greatest team in NFL history (Bob Griese) was very similar to Penny. He didn't have the big, rocket arm, but he was very smart with the football and didn't turn it over a lot.
We have put the ball on the ground 14 times and lost 4. That 14 is a VERY low number as well if you look at the stats
And I think there is a talent to not losing a fumble as well the combination of having trailing offensive players in the proper position and switching the ball to the outside arm in the event of a fumble it's more likely to go out of bounds.
Its one thing for our coaches to preach it, as i'm sure all coaching staff's do, but for some reason our guys are listening and executing it on the field and believe they won't turn it over. That stat shows me the team has their heads on straight and understands fundamentals their coaching staff has taught them and actually believe if they do it, good things will happen
Also we now have the longest streak with 1 turnover or less. We are at 17 games now stretching to last season. The previous record was by Indy, and theirs was 11 games. ESPN - Dolphins turnover efficiency unprecedented - AFC East
