Ronnie's my favorite Dolphin. Pro Bowl results are released tomorrow. He doesn't belong in the Pro Bowl. Check out the stats:

    NFL Stats: by Player Category

5 guys have more yards than him, including 2 rookies. 3 of those guys have a better yards/carry average than Ronnie and one is tied. I just don't see the production. Yes, he's got 10 TDs. That's a plus. Also, his receiving production hasn't been stellar.

    Discuss.

If you base it only on stats, sure.

But the players and coaches probably put attitude up there and who the player is as well. And ronnie definitely has something about him. He's always smiling. maybe a bit less than when he wins; but he's always got a smile.

Now stat wise? Sure there are backs who have been better. And they're rookies. A lot of attention ronnie has received this year has been because he's the trigger man for the wildcat formation. And a decent bit of the reason his personal stats are down is because we have a three headed monster RB attack.

The Pro Bowl should not be 100% stat-based, but it should be based on production. Other RBs have produced more.

I don't know which way to go on this.

He hasn't gotten enough carries for one thing. That's the main reason he doesn't have the stats. He has shown he can get the job done when you give him the rock. A lot of people including me have been wondering why the shortage in carries.

My guess is that maybe he is being conserved for post season play so that we have a fresh Ronnie when we really need him. If that is the case, then you would probably see a heavy dose of Ronnie if the KC game seems to be slipping away or definitely in the Jets match up if we win next week. I don't know.....just a guess. That's the only thing I can think of since Ronnie has been injury prone in the past and they don't want him going down if we have a shot at the post season.

Probably won't see the pro bowl but it will help the team out.

The dude is coming off ACL surgery. The medical science has vastly improved, but its still a huge injury.

Based on stats Lendale white with slightly lower average and yards has 6 more TDs. Ronnie is my favorite player as well, I wore his jersey yesterday. But as of today, I don't think he deserves it. I won't protest if he does though.

Not sure how many guys get in, but I'd put it:

    1. Thomas Jones (hurts to admit it)
    2. Chris Johnson (rookie averaging 4.9 ypc!)
    3. Lendale White (14 TDs!)
    4. Steve Slaton (rookie averaging 4.9 ypc!)

Honorable mention (tie): Ronnie Brown, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Marshawn Lynch

He's on pace to have an almost identical season to Marion Barber in 2007. Barber made it to the Pro Bowl. Both in similar situations as well, sharing the ball with Ricky Williams and Julius Jones.

With the lack of carries and and our Oline play he shouldn't go, but both him and RW should get a medal for doing what they have done this year.

Peterson wouldn't go to the pro bowl behind our line.

If he had some of the numbers of the other people who are ahead of him in the stats, everyone would be singing a different tune if he was left out. This is quite the Homer thread.

all the guys in front of him have well over 200 carries...Ronnie only has 195. He's got 10 TD's and is averaging a solid 4.2 yards per carry. His game in New England got this team rolling and what he has done with the wildcat has taken the league by storm. So IMO he does deserve it.

i agree... i love Ronnie, but i dont think he deserves it this year, he just hasn't been given the rock enough by the coaching staff...

id rather him get in and earn it legit, than get in because of the popularity from the wildcat

Agreed! Ronnie Brown is a beast. Guy is hard not to like, always smiling. I just wish he would get back more to his punishing running style.

As a UPS employee, "what can brown do for you?".

Well my best arguement is that if you look at the amount of carries he's gotten in comparison to everyone else than you can see why he belongs. If he had as many carries he would have those stats.

THe AFC running back race is hard to see a clear cut top couple guys. Out of the top 6-7 mentioned : Ronnie, Jones, Lynch, Johnson, Slaton, MJD there are arguments for each guy.

I could see why ronnie wouldn't make it, but i could also see why he could. Same goes for most those backs.

No back really dominated, however, over in the NFC there are plenty of canditates who will have better stat lines than the AFC backs who won't make it due to the top guys in the NFC making it, namely AP and Portis and Williams and Turner.

Just because he has not had the carries or because he has nor been passed to frequently it doesnt mean he is not worthy of pro bowl consideration.

Without Ronnie the Wildcat would have stayed on the drawing board and few can deny that the Wildcat was responsible for several wins especially early on.

Other teams tried to copy it without the same success.

In addition Ronnie has been very effective in the red zone .In other words he doesnt have more carries this year but the ones he has had have resulted in a high percentage of big plays which have contributed to big wins .

Considering that OL has been in a state of constant flux without any blocking consistancy I dont think we can expect much more.

It not Ronnies fault that he does not have the glaring numbers but he has done well when called upon.

Fortunately he remains healthy and he should show up big during the playoffs .

Again, Lendale white gives up .3 in ypc, but has 4 more TDs.

Nobody is saying Brown isn't a great RB and isn't pro-bowl quality. But there are only 3, and I don't think Brown Qualifies.

Wow. Jones has quietly put together quite a season. If I'm making a case for Ronnie over Jones the best thing I can come up with is that Thomas Jones' three best games were against Denver, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. Not exactly the three best defenses in the NFL.

Chris Johnson deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. More so than even Ronnie.

Steve Slaton doesn't have to share the backfield with Ricky Williams. Neither does Marshawn Lynch.

And Tomlinson is having a bad season by his standards. Nobody feels like he is having a Pro Bowl year. Not even San Diego fans.

We all know there are usually a few players who get in not because of stats but because of popularity or their name so who are we to say that he shouldn't get in. I would be thrilled if he gets in just for what he has meant to this team this year. The Dolphins haven't exactly been a scoring machine this year but RB has 10 TDs so thats a statement in itself. He has done everything that has been asked of him and he has protected the ball, thats enough for me.

I think he deserves to go. He showed his smarts and ability to make plays in the WildCat formation. He showed he was ready to go full-speed less than a year after a serious knee injury (which I'm sure affected the amount of carries he's gotten). If he gets opportunities he can make plays on any team as long as he gets the slightest crease. And with a VERY banged up o-line he still makes a few plays every game. So his value to this team is VERY high as well.

Lots of people saying "if" .... "if" doesnt get a PB nod. Would he be horribly out of place if he goes? Not really. Is he one of the 3 most deserving players from the stat line? No not really.
PB voting doesnt take into account other people sharing the backfield (White/Johnson share a backfield dont they?) or things like that. Its generally stats and publicity. The latter reason being why I wouldnt be surprised to see Tomlinson go even though he doesnt really deserve it.

Anyway, while Ronnie has been valuable, he has virtually dissapeared in games, and the offense has been sputtering a bit lately against relatively inferior defenses. Assign blame to where you want (his knee not 100%, the OL not being healthy) but those are what voters look at.

That said, I hope he does make it, always nice to see some Phins in Hawaii.

*Edit* Just looking around at some of the other positions, lol at the league leader in INTs ... Brett Favre!

Why might Ronnie make it to the Pro Bowl? It's real simple...in a word:

    Wildcat

If Brown gets invited to Honolulu, it will be because of his contributions out of the Wildcat formation. His ability to run that play has essentially made it a new wrinkle in the NFL, which a variety of teams now employ in one way or another.

No, I think he's right. The amount of publicity Ronnie's received for the Wildcat far exceed the productivity of the Wildcat. It was a smashing success for 3 games. Since then, its been moderately effective.

Patriots favored by 12 1/2 points

-The wildcat is introduced with Ronnie Brown as its arms and legs.
-Rushes for 113 yards with 4 rushing TD's and throws a TD.
-5 Td's in one game. Only 14 players in NFL history have scored 5 TD's in one game.
-If Brown is given the carries he produces every time.

    Dolphins 38
    Patriots 13

35 of those points were a result of either the arms or legs of Ronnie Brown.

I know it is only one game but that was magical and beautiful to see. The Pro Bowl is more than stats it is about what sticks in peoples minds. In essence being a popularity contest and Ronnie Brown sure did become popular with the introduction of the WildCat formation.

I don't think you can just look at stats when it comes to the Pro Bowl selections. Look at Drew Brees.....he is putting up huge numbers but I wouldn't take him over Chad Pennington right now. If you throw it for 450 yards and lose the game what good are those stats?

The thing you've got to look at is the number of carries. Do you believe that if Ronnie carried the football as much as those above him in the yardage department, he'd be in the 1100-1400 range by now with even MORE touchdowns? I do. You've got to consider the amount of games where he's gotten about 10 carries or less. Then, you've got to look at the games where he's received the load.

No one is in that Adrian Peterson class; he's definitely alone and has the potential to be THE greatest ever. However, there's a huge log jam in the class below him, and I think Ronnie Brown is right there. There is nothing that Ronnie Brown can't do at a high level.
