I have not heard nothing either ,but the helmet throw was just plain stupid to me...

It was dumb from a "keep it under control" standpoint but the penalty didn't give the niners any kind of yards or downs so it was just a dumb mental mistake.

If it had cost them a down or enough yards to get a down I would have been beyond pissed.

i mean you're entitled to your opinion and everything

I kinda went WTF! and held my breath to wait for what the ref would say then just went "WHEEEEEEEEEW" because at that point it wasn't looking so hot for us.

As far any serious injury is concerned I found it comforting that he looked fine in post game interviews!

COACH SPARANO PROBABLY TOLD HIM TO GET HIS HEAD EXAMINED AFTER THE DUMB PENALTY:lol:

Why was it a dumb penalty? it was AFTER the play and it was our ball. There was just over a minute left and the Niners had no timeouts. I loved it and love his fire. He knew and understood the situation. He isn't dumb

any penalty the result of a player being selfish and causing his team an unecessary penalty is dumb.

I completely disagree. He was excited and he knew it wasn't going to cost his team anything. Had that been third down he wouldn't have done it.

Well i believe emotion got to porter, i like that. I do not believe that he knew the rules that we could kneal down (the game is to fast, and what if they called some penalty or the clock hitting zero) and was walking the fine line. I was scared they were gonna get the first and ten. Its one thing in the first qtr. jacking up the team, its another on the last play of the game! It's my opinion a veteran player knows this, but again it was pure emotion and this team deserves that! But call a duck a duck Porter knows it so should we. No sugar coating

At that point in the game it didn't matter and he knew it. Who cares? Let him celebrate---he had just won us the game.

it wasnt selfish, he was celebrating....he single-handedly won us the game with that play.....it was awesome, he has 17.5 sacks...it meant nothing, it pumped the crowd up our last home game....why not? it effected no one, he fires up our team....thats not close to selfish imo

    Bingo.

Disagree. It didn't cost us anything, unless your referring to just giving us another penalty on our stats.

Another case of new school vs. old school, brought to you by Mr. Porter.

But what you fail to remember was a CLE game several years ago, a similar play where a D lineman did the same thing following a sack thinking the game was over, but their was defensive holding, the refs were able to call the penalty plus access the unsportsmanlike penalty. It cost CLE the game.

So its only in hindsight with a no D penalty, and dead ball foul that it didnt hurt us.

I love passion as well, but never, never condone or accept the attitude that it didnt hurt us so it was ok. Losing your head and acting like a fool is still that. Joey acted like a fool because he forgot this is a TEAM not about one individual and one play. Celebrate on the sideline, celebrate in the clubhouse...go crazy with the who ride stuff, I am all for it then and there. Its about knowing your responsibilities to the big picture, and I suspect Sparano talked to him about this big time.

Ya know, I just watched The Greatest Game Ever Played that was ESPN re-colorized production. The one point of emphasis was at the end of the game, immediately following the Alan Amechi famous TD and winning play in OT, both Johnny U, and Raymond Berry, simply did their job and turned and walked off the field. They celebrated in the locker room, etc. Sorry, losing focus to be an modern day A-hole is still showing that you are an A-hole any way you slice it.

No, its another case of forgetting what the responsibilities are for 60 minutes. It was lucky that their wasnt a D-penalty to negate the sack...then his Helment antics would have contributed. Its stupid any way you slice it.....talk about being lucky.

Please tell me this isnt NEW School = act like an A-hole; OLD School = know your responsibility!!!!

The penalty didn't matter it was going to be Miami's ball either way so I have no problem with it. Does it matter if they down the ball at their own 15 opposed to their own 30? I would have to say no.

But D-penalty could have negated the sack and would have made his helmet throwing matter....just saying, get away with something that you can control shouldnt be passed off as simply who cares, it didnt matter IMHO.

But it very well could have and may in the future.

Porter's problem is that he doesn't think, he just does. And it's a problem everytime he runs his mouth or does something like this. Had the situation been a little different, whether it had been more time on the clock or a tie score, his stupid celebration could have cost us the game. I love fire and intensity as much as anyone, but Porter needs to learn to reign it in and be more responsible out there. If you want to celebrate like the game is over, wait until the game is over and just pump your fists and scream your head off on the way to the sidelines, otherwise expect a penalty.

When this happens in the future and bites us in the backside, and it will, just keep in mind that it isn't the fault of the refs for being too uptight or prejudice against the Phins in some league-wide Patriots loving conspiracy, it's Porter's for being a loose cannon. :wink2:

Exactly, the same excuse Drunk Drivers say it was ok, I didnt hurt anyone.......this time!!!!

Just saying, we were lucky, but it shouldnt be celebrated in the "dang, I love what JPeezey did, it was cool to see, he is my hero for doing that helmet throw...it didnt matter, it didnt hurt us...blah, blah, blah"

if someone hurts someone while driving drunk they are charged with the additional penalty. You don't charge someone because it COULD have happened.

Hold on....you charge them for Drunk Driving (which is unlawful); Joey was called for Unsportsmanlike (which is a penalty). That is equal....

take it to the next step......

Driving Drunk is STUPID and aside from its own PENALTY, it could lead to far greater tragedy under different circumstances...(DEATH - an additional charge that potentially exists; therefore a smart person avoids the first act of getting drunk and driving) - drunk driving is a selfish act.

JP's penalty is STUPID, under different circumstances - D penalty that would have negated the sack and only left the Unsportsmanlike penantly - it could lead to far greater tragedy for this team - and impact our chances . Throwing ones helmet is a selfish act.

    This correlation is accurate.:hi5:

I am indeed comparing how one STUPID selfish act could indeed lead to far greater concequences!!!!

I am comparing A-holes behind the wheel while drunk for no reason to A-holes on a football field throwing their helmets for no reason.....! Thats very clear.

Please indulge us....what is the Football REASON for throwing off your helmet during the game on the field??????

    If this and if that....

if his helmet had struck Sparano in the head and killed him on the sideline. he would be charged with manslaughter.

    he knew the situation.

lmao at imagining winning the game....and just walking off the field and celebrating in the locker room.....the crowd would've thought they were on ritalin or something......

he ripped off his helmet, was it dumb? sure....but it didnt effect the game...and we are all ok...this is ridiculous that he is being nit picked like this....

did he? what makes you think "he won the game" singlehandedly?? I'm thinking you are exagerating to make your poor point a little stronger. I guess the other 59:00 don't matter eh. Tell me, what did he "add' to the celebration by costing his team 15yeards? I'm not opposed to celebration, but deliberatly causing a 15 yard penalty is wrong. It is selfish, and nothing else.

Well, then I hope that everybody still has that same "who cares?" attitude when Porter's antics cost us a game. Instead of blaming the refs or blasting Porter for his boneheaded actions, lets just say that it's "Joey being Joey", kinda like...."Manny being Manny".

everyone wants to talk about hypotheticals.....

"what if joey doesnt make that sack and he throws a touchdown?"

he changed the game, he stopped them on 4th down to win us the game....he didnt win the entire game, but that moment in time, he was the reason we won.....

he didnt add anything.....but what did he take away? 15 yards back further to kneel the ball closer to the crowd??? yeah nice.....big deal? NO
