I love the little jab at the strong armed QB's. Good article and they lay out a lot of good points why Pennington should be considered for MVP this season.

I don't think Miami would have half the wins they do without him.

I think if he leads this team into New York and wins the title against Farve, in that scenario, i see him taking home the trophy, its The Perfect Story. Shoot if that happens there will be a few more gurantees and that would be sparano for coach of the year, joey for DPOY.

Smith (ATL) seems to have a leg up on Sparano from the Natl Media. But who makes the playoffs, and what happens after that could impact.

In the words of Dr. Hook
I would feel robbed if he got it all considered.

For my money, even trying to think in an unbiased fashion Sparano should be the hands down winner.

I think its a tough call. Playoffs could be the swing vote. As an example, PTI boys both leaning Smiths way, feeling the Vick issue, Petrino jumping ship, left them in a worse state than simply the 1 win PHINS.

PTI For December 9 (8:30 remaining)

I can see where those off the field issues would add some leverage the other way but given the talent on the team and the win / loss record are the two things I can think of the most because the off the field stuff for the most part has nothing to do with the coaching ability.

I agree...if we win the AFC East....how can anyone argue that anyone has been more valuable to their team than Pennington has been to the Phins? People talk about Warner but he plays in a cupcake division. I also would put Matt Ryan in the discusion with the Falcons. I don't think any RB or WR is having an exceptional year, so I think Chad is deserving.

    It would be very convincing.

If I am not mistaken the greatest 1 win to most wins the next season is 10. (9 win swing). I think Jets did it, and I believe another team as well, but I dont think either made the playoffs with those 10 wins.

And, the largest win swing from one season to anthor is 10 wins (Colts from 3 wins to 13).

So both of these "records" are in our grasp.

The Raiders were 1-13 in 1962 and 10-4 in 1963...for a 9 game improvement. The Jets were 1-15 in 1996 and went 12-4 in 1997 for an 8 game improvement. We can tie the best swing (10 games, if we win out)....the Colts won 3 games in 1998 and 13 in 1999.

You mean 9-7. Either way, thanks. I thought I heard two teams had a 9 game swing from a 1 win season. Oh, well...thanks. I like that we can get to 11 and qualify for the playoffs, and tie COLTS for 10 W improvement.

    Each would be cool

If you look at all pre-season rankings, ATL was consistently behind Miami. Almost every single one. I'd wager a lot of posters here would have agreed, and argued if it was different.

ATL has had a disastrous 2 years. We just sucked. Michael Vick. Coach quitting halfway in. Parcells using them as leverage to come to us! That was the latest straw. Remember they could do no right after Parcells jilted them at the altar.

There was absolutely positively no way they were going to succeed. We were, we had Parcells. Before Sparano, we had Parcells. People knew we were going to succeed, and people knew ATL wasn't.

What we have done here is amazing. But what ATL has done, in my opinion, is much much more significant. Oh yeah, with a rookie QB as well.

Rookie HC, with Rookie QB - playoffs may be the differentiator, but again, ATL is in the smack of it for NFC too.

It will be interesting for sure...all the races. Lets get in to help Coach out.

First off I'd like to say how nice it is to see our Phins in the "thick of things" again.Chad Pennington has been a huge part of this turnaround. Now with that being said I can't help comparing Chad to well here goes...Jay Fiedler.A guy who does all the "little things",including winning, very well but can't extend/stretch the field with the long ball or take us to the next level.I think sooner or later this flaw will bite us in the ***.At least until our O-line can better run block for the R & R Express. And should we make the playoffs this might come to light real quick.I'm not hating on Chad or anything,so don't attack me,but I'd like to hear what you guys and gals think of my "little fear".Maybe I'm way off on this, please convince me otherwise.

There are very few guys that are as valuable to his team as Pennington has been this year for the Dolphins.

    Hells yeah!!!

Hope it happens. We just need to run the table.

Then after that they should make a movie about our season, with Matthew McConaughey playing Pennington.

Do they remind any one here of each other??? Matthew is older then Chad but every time i see Matthew in a Movie i always think of him as Chad misfit lil brother.

You should let your eyes be the judge and not your preconcieved notions

First, Chad has already taken this team to three or four next levels...but I guess that's not good emough...11 months ago this team was 1-15 and the laughing stock of the entire NFL and now you are criticizing the person primarily responsible(on the field at least) for turning this team around to 8-5 with a strong chance to be Division Champions...but thats ok you need higher levels than that

    SOOOOOOO use your eyes

Have you seen Pennington play, have you seen him throw the deep ball? Have you seen several passes this year that traveled 45-55 yards in the air and landed in the receivers hands? Have you watched dolphins-jets games in the past and watched Pennington beat the Dolphins with deep ball after deep ball?

Pennington doesn't have the arm to throw a deep out...that's the only pass that has any relevance to the game of football that he is limited in...its also the pass picked off most often

So how did Penningtton get this rep?

A few years ago Tony Kornheiser announced a Monday night game where the jets played, i think, the redskins. Pennington's arm was recovering from surgery, the wind was howling and Pennington did not play well. Kornheiser announced to the world that he didnt understand hoew the Jets could have a quarterback that didnt have the basic tools to play the position. He then harped on it thru the entire game....TONY KORNHEISER... that and the Jests message boards ...which is where he got benched last year

Could Pennington have a stronger arm? Yes

Would it increase the dolphins ability to stretch the field? not really

Did Joe Montana have a strong arm?

I know Chad Henne has a strong arm and what looks like a bright future...In fact right now he looks just like Kyle Boller did as a rookie.

I understand that MVP means most valuable player, but honestly I don't think you can win the award without eye opening stats. I just don't think Chad has the line to win the award.

I agree he won't win the MVP, due to lack of gaudy stats

but he has taken the team thru several "levels" and to even mention Fiedler in the same paragraph with Pennington is offensive...
for Fiedler to have pennington's numbers all he would need to do is complete 512 of his next 595 passes (86%) for 4956 yards with 25 touchdowns and minus 5 interceptions

This part made me laugh. You know what though if Jay could come back and put up all those other stats you mentioned I think the league should take 5 interceptions off his career total to honor him.

I think Matt Ryan should get very strong consideration for the MVP this year.
