Just watched the Michigan game and if he declares, he's got to figure pretty highly on our list of possibles in that 268lb region in the mid to late first round. Very impressed with his ability off the edge; long arms to rip and run past tackles. He also looked solid playing the run and dropped back in coverage a couple of times. Very impressive wingspan and really has that length look of DeMarcus Ware.

Good player. If he runs well, he really could push the first round.

Haven't watched Michigan yet but - sorry to highjack your thread - I wonder if you came around to watch BC and Mark Herzlich. Probably won't come out early with the way this LB class looks but here's a guy who, from the limited tape I've seen so far, has the makeup of a very intriguing NFL prospect. Plus, he got a brilliant name!

Seen him Jochen and agree with you 100%. Talked about him quite a bit in one thread on here a couple of weeks ago. REALLY like him. ALWAYS around the ball, much as he was in the ACC Title game at the weekend. Really nice player, but like you say, 99.9% sure of staying at BC.

I was referring to the mechanics of Pennington's throwing motion- slow delivery, he guides the ball, and he seriously lacks arm strength- yet he gets the job done because of his intangibles and accuracy. I am curious as to Lindsday's response- try to post it when you can. I'm outta here.

No but maybe the mods will implement a "no thanks" feature?

As for Wootoon, I've just checked out his stats and while I like the sacks and tackles for loss his overall tackles seem to be a bit on the low side. I obviously have to watch him play myself to come to any conclusion but it seems something to take a look at.

What if the one star giver has never given out a one star, then that would , in a way, be spreading them out.

Not that I want to get this thread back on track because I'm enjoying the anarchy but thanks for the info on Wootton. He looked like an interesting prospect on paper because of his size but I haven't seen any Northwestern games this season. It's nice to hear from somebody that has seen him. And it's especially encouraging to hear that a Draft Guru is high on him.

Have you caught any of Willie VanDeSteeg's games? He seems like a diamond in the rough but I haven't seen him play either.

VandeStag (sp) has been hurt quite a bit hasn't he before this year? Haven't seen a lot of him, but when I did it was just after he had returned to the lineup.

He - Wootton - is a good player. I tell you else I like who you might have seen of a similar ilk is Jammie Kirlew at Indiana. Be interesting to see if he declares as he's in that 265lb region.

As for Van DeSteeg; I haven't seen him play at all this year.

Sounds like something's up. Hopefully we can have some serious talks about prospects in here though, even though I'm not trying to get in between all of this.

Regarding Wootten, I haven't seen him play but that description sounds good. Looking at him on sites, he's listed at 6'7" and is expected to run in the late 4.8's. That seems big and too slow for an OLB but if he can play coverage, that is interesting. Is he stiff when changing directions?

Love Mark Herzlich. Tremendous football player. The last I heard he said he was going to stay at Boston College. His teammate, Robert Francois, recently got some love from Tony Pauline in his Risers and Sliders column.

Another guy that jumped out at me when I watched a recent Boston College game was Mike McLaughlin. He's a junior and doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar but this kid looks like a player.

I'd argue it isn't too big or slow for an OLB. Matt Roth pretty much demonstrates that, he's 6'3" 280, and ran about a 4.80. He's not been exploited in coverage or anything as far as I can ever remember.

That's a good point. However, you don't think that a late 4.8 guy may be to slow to play? Also, Roth isn't 6'7". I would think that height would make it harder for a player to turn and run, no?

Thats because in general I don't think the staff puts him in position to be exploited in the passing game.

I think comparing him to Roth isn't the way to prove a point, seeing as if Roth were good enough to be the answer we wouldnt need another OLB.

Those extra 4 inches are an advantage, not a disadvantage. More of the weight would be bones and whatnot, spread lighter over a bigger frame.

I'd argue that Roth spends as much time in coverage as any other linebacker besides Channing Crowder. He's not in man coverage 20 yards downfield with Antonio Gates, or anything, but he's holding his own.

Why not? Matt Roth dealing with the stand-up portion of his position well at 280 pounds. I'm not suggesting he is a carbon copy of Roth in terms of skill and abilities.

I think that there is a whole lot of people who are way too harsh on Roth. He is what he is- A good run-down linebacker. I think it's very well possible that he's still our starting strongside OLB in 2009, and what is replaced are the guy(s) who are playing DE in nickel and dime packages.

I see what your saying, as he can disrupt passing lanes. I was just wondering because I've heard that its harder to run when your very tall.
