FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - LIVE: Latest updates from winter meetings Giants and Dodgers have also been mentioned as those teams interested. Cano is an interesting one since I guess it moves DeWitt to 3B. But a Cabrera for Kemp deal makes 0 sense.
That deal regardless of arm seems too good to be true for the Yanks. I so want it to happen, therefore I am sure it wont happen. (P.S. I would take Pierre for CF)
Angels seem to have been interested in Tejada for years now. Doesnt surprise me to see them mentioned. I wonder if they'd move Aybar and play Tejada at SS or move Figgins to LF as has been discussed and put Tejada at 3B?
It is way too lopsided. We're talking Kemp who's a 30-30 HR-Steals candidate for an underachieving OF in Cabrera. Please take Pierre. Please. We'll even throw in Andruw Jones.
True that but at least yours can hit something out of the park, lol. We need an Allan Houston rule for MLB.
Im not sure Jenks is the closer ultimately even if we get him. I think we will still end up getting a Juan Cruz or a Huston street. But i like the way we are using every option available to drive down the price on K-rod and others. By the way, per rotoworld: SI.com's Jon Heyman believes the Mets' initial offer to Francisco Rodriguez was for two years with an option. Heyman thinks they offered just $12 million per year. The third year would be in the form of a vesting option. Down market or not, it's not going to be nearly enough to get a deal done. Dec. 8 - 6:38 pm et Source: SI.com Posted above.
Not sure why he'd go to the press about this. Now when they dont sign him the fans can all be pissed at Colletti over it
Thx. Yeah no way 12 mill gets it done. Unless he wants a shorter deal now so he can try again in free agency sooner.
Would certainly love to have him. Adding him plus maybe a veteran like Randy Johnson ought to solidify that rotation. Of course, my concern remains the offense, which is essentially nothing without someone like Manny. Heck, during the playoff run, he was responsible for 1/3 of the runs scored and half the HR's hit. We need the pop too otherwise it's back to 1-0 or 2-1 losses. Speaking of which: Ramirez never responded to Dodgers' offer - MLB - Yahoo! Sports I really really hate Boras... The New York Post reports that it was the Mets that changed their minds about potentially sending Aaron Heilman and Pedro Feliciano to the Rockies for Huston Street. It was reported earlier that the Mets offered Heilman and the Rockies countered by asking for both relievers. However, the Post now states that it was the Mets that brought up the two-for-one possibility. The Rockies asked for the weekend to think about it, but when Colorado officials called back, Mets GM Omar Minaya had changed his mind. Because of the way it worked out, it's less likely that the talks will be revisited. Mets and Red Sox talking Schneider...doesnt say who the mets would get back but I would take Masterson for sure as the article mentions starters though isnt specific. Red Sox-Mets Talking Deal For Schneider - Baseball Insider - In-depth news, analysis and insight on Major League Baseball from Washington Post reporters, editors and columnists The Orioles and Reds are discussing a trade that would send catcher Ramon Hernandez to Cincinnati in exchange for Ryan Freel and a mid-level prospect, but the deal cannot be completed unless the Orioles pick up a significant portion of Hernandez's remaining salary, major-league sources say. Hernandez is owed $8 million in 2009 with a club option of $8.5 million or a $1 million buyout for 2010, meaning he is guaranteed $9 million. The possibility of a trade was first reported Monday by the Cincinnati Enquirer and other outlets. The Orioles have been trying hard to purge Hernandez, who batted .257 with 15 home runs and 65 RBIs in 133 games last season. --Ken Rosenthal and Ed Price FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - LIVE: Latest updates from winter meetings in Vegas
Reliever Chad Cordero is expected to arrive at the Bellagio Resort on Monday night to talk to some big league clubs, according to a baseball source. The Mets, Cardinals, Rangers, Tigers and Diamondbacks are five of the clubs Cordero plans to talk to. The Nationals, the team Cordero played for the last six years, are no longer in the mix. According to the source, Cordero and his agent, Larry Reynolds, are planning to meet with Mets general manager Omar Minaya on Wednesday. The source didn't know when the other meetings were scheduled. Cordero expected in Vegas on Monday | MLB.com: News
Blake did ok for us at 3B and I guess it's nice to solidify the position. Still have SS, Manny, SP, and RP left to go.
Towers sets deadline on potential Peavy trade Towers said a Peavy trade could bring the Padres a shortstop, and the Cubs have offered reserve Ronny Cedeno, who isn't the Padres' first choice for the job. Towes said that because three or four clubs could be involved, there are multiple scenarios involving different players. Upgrading the bullpen has become a greater emphasis, Towers on Monday. He didn't identify potential trade additions, but the Padres like their chances of getting Cubs reliever Kevin Hart and have asked about Cubs relievers Michael Wuertz and Angel Guzman.
well looks like that first report was a lie according to K-rods agent Paul Kinzer who wants at least a 3 year deal for K-rod: "Absolutely not" - Paul Kinzer on the validity of Joel Sherman's report on a Mets 2 year, $25 million w/ an option offer to Rodriguez. Rodriguez isn't thrilled by Mets' offer - MLB - Yahoo! Sports also in the above link it mentions Mark Loretta signing a deal with Houston and potential suitors for Rangers SS, Michael Young.
Too bad Omar wouldnt give up the two relievers for Street. I dont see anything wrong with it if we could get another decent arm to replace Pedro Feliciano. I hope it happens. ... Any news on the Dye to Reds deal? Did that finally die for good?
Really interested to see what terms they come to. I'm fine with him leaving the Angels, it just better be for more money than they offered last offseason.
And I'd love to get Justin Verlander for Julio Lugo but that's not happening either. I do question the credibility of some of these reports, I mean why is the Washington Post reporting a Sox/Mets rumor? Gotta love the hot stove rumors.
Schneider for Masterson... The Red Sox better not deal Masterson. I'd be much more open to parting with Bowden or even Buchholz, but after the way Masterson pitched in the postseason this past year, he better be in Boston next year (unless, of course, he brings back a ransom).
I think its lined up to be Cano for Kemp and Cabrera for the lesser arm. Either way, I dont think it happens. I do think Pierre is mis-used in LAD land.
No, I don't think he would close, either, especially given that K-Rod is probably signing in the next couple days. And yes, Omar has played this brilliantly. He's essentially setting his price on K-Rod by using Fuentes, Wood and others as leverage. I thought we'd end up with Street, but that sounds like a dead letter now, though they might still revisit it. I am absolutely in favor of signing Cruz as the 8th inning man, though. I think Heilman and Feliciano is a bit much, though it's reasonable. If the Rox sent back another arm, an 11th/12th man out of the bullpen type, it might make sense. Maybe Steven Register, who the Mets picked in the Rule 5 draft, then returned. He might be a AAAA player, but I'd give him a shot. I assume he was joking around. I don't think any Mets fan seriously expects to get Masterson for Schneider. I don't, at least. I'm not sure what the right fit would be. Masterson's obviously too much. Craig Hansen is too little. I thought a Paul Byrd for Brian Schneider trade made all kinds of sense until I saw that Byrd was a free agent. Maybe Hansen and David Pauley? Between those two AAAA arms, maybe one would emerge as a quality pitcher. Sheets for 2 years, $30M is a masterstroke if they pull it off. They've obviously learned from the Carl Pavano debacle.
Using Pierre to do anything other than pinch run and play CF as a late-inning defensive replacement is misusing him. He's a terrible baseball player and Ned Colleti was an idiot for giving him that contract.
Who'da thunkit? Fair enough, I quess I still remember the Pierre of the Marlin days, slap hitting lead-off man, nightmare on the base paths, and vaccum in center. He isnt part of the deal, but just threw his name out there. If this Gardner kid, or more importantly young Jackson can actually hold their own at the plate, I will take their speed and defense over Pierre for years to come.
Although that Sox/Met rumor has now been shot down I'd say if it were true the Mets would get a Pauley or Hansack type.
If it were true its probably Wakefield. The article mentions SP's, something the mets need and pretty much the only way the deal makes sense from a Mets perspective.
Per Rotoworld: A.J. Burnett-S-Blue Jays Dec. 9 - 10:42 am et GM John Mozeliak shot down rumors that the Cardinals are in the running for free agent A.J. Burnett. "We've never engaged them," said Mozeliak. "I'm not even looking at the price. I'm looking at what we have. We have three pitchers with multi-year deals. I don't know if adding a fourth makes that much sense." The Cards have signed Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright and Kyle Lohse to long-term deals in recent years. The Braves and Red Sox are left as the top teams fighting for Burnett's services. Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch Jeff Francoeur-OF-Braves Dec. 9 - 10:31 am et Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe has heard that the Royals and Braves are in serious discussions about a trade that would swap Jeff Francoeur for Zack Greinke. According to one source, the only thing holding back the deal is the Braves' impending deal with A.J. Burnett. Royals GM Dayton Moore worked with a young Francoeur while the two were in Atlanta. The Royals would cut payroll with the move, but the Braves would be the clear beneficiary if this rumor has substance. Source: Boston Globe Related: Zack Greinke Thats an amazing move for ATL if they can get it done but Moore would have to be on crack if he cant get another 2 good prospects with it.
D'oh! You're right. Thanks for the correction. I was just about to post that, actually. Here's the link to Metsblog.com's story. If the Royals trade Greinke for Francoeur, I might just break down and cry. Francoeur is a replacement-level corner outfielder, nothing more. And, what's more, the Royals already have plenty of adequate outfielders. Greinke is a legitimate #2 starter who can be a #1 on the right day. Francoeur for Greinke is such a galactically stupid idea that I would seriously wonder if Dayton Moore was doing a favor for his old team. I KNOW Moore is smarter than this. And if the Royals are getting someone like JoJo Reyes and another prospect in return, then it shouldn't be pitched as "Greinke for Francoeur." It should be billed as "Greinke for prospects, and by the way, the Braves threw in a ****ty corner outfielder named Jeff Francoeur."
Too bad you all didnt hold onto Kelly Shoppach back in the day. I think if the Rangers decide not to move another C now that they shipped off Laird, I would wonder what you could offer Cleveland to get Shop back into your system??
The Mets, Angels, Dodgers and Royals are among several teams to inquire about Michael Young, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. Heyman believes that the Rangers are not shopping Young, but are willing to listen to offers. Young has full no-trade protection and is owed $80 million over the next five years, so it's really unlikely that a deal will get done. The Rangers would likely have to take back a contract or two in a trade. Source: SI.com This would be a great 2b option but I dont love that 5/60 mil left. That said Id still take him. Fernando, Heilman, Parnell and a prospect or two for Young and Salty (or Max Ramirez)? It would be a merry christmas/happy chanukah/awesome kwanza Delmon Young-OF-Twins Dec. 9 - 12:28 pm et According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Rays are open to bringing back current Twins outfielder Delmon Young. Tampa Bay could swap either Andy Sonnanstine or Edwin Jackson in a deal. The Phillies are also collecting information on Young, who hit .290 with 10 home runs and 69 RBI in 152 games last season. Source: ESPN.com Robinson Cano-2B-Yankees Dec. 9 - 12:16 pm et Yankees GM Brian Cashman hinted Monday that it's unlikely Robinson Cano will be traded this offseason. "We plan on having Robby as our second baseman," Cashman said. "We signed him last year as one of our long-term pieces." There have been rumors of a Cano-for-Matt Kemp swap, but those were killed by both Cashman and Dodgers GM Ned Collettii. Source: Newsday A.J. Burnett-S-Blue Jays Dec. 9 - 12:11 pm et Newsday reports that the Yankees may have met with A.J. Burnett's agent, Darek Braunecker, on Monday night. A source told Newsday that the Yankees "are very much in it" and SI.com has reported that the Yankees are prepared to top the Braves' estimated four-year, $60 million offer. A Burnett signing would hardly kill the Yankees' pursuit of Sabathia, as they're thought to be able to afford both. The Braves and Red Sox are also heavily in the mix. Source: Newsday Raul Ibanez-OF-Mariners Dec. 9 - 11:59 am et The Phillies reportedly have interest in free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez. Ibanez, a left-handed hitter, doesn't exactly mesh with the Phillies' current lineup, but his numbers would be welcome on any club. The 36-year-old hit .293 with 23 homers and 110 RBI for the Mariners last season. The Mets and Cubs are also believed to have interest. Source: Hot Stove Blog
Ah Shoppach is a nice player but I do think he's ultimately a back up. Yeah he had a nice couple of months but he can't hit an off speed pitch and swings at everything down and away. With that being said at the time of the Coco deal in 05 I was very much against dealing Shoppach for Bard.
'ol frenchy did everything in his power to kill my fantasy team last year....I cut him @ AS break, and no one touched him the rest of the way.
The braves are really active: Per Metsblog, Atlanta is trying to reacquire Dye. Then my guess is they go after Greinke with Frenchy ++. Its looking like 1996 all over again.
I think its safe to say that the Coco deal didn't work out for the Red Sox. Backup or not, Shoppach is a more attractive option than anything we currently have on the roster.
