I was just reading a thread about the importance of the QB play and I couldn't agree more. We all know this is the one area we have all missed on miserably in the draft and free agency since 83. The other problem is that when we do have the #1 or 2 pick there isn't a clear cut person for us to go after. I still don't think Ronnie was actually worth the #2 overall pick a few years ago but he was the best available at the time, and I think the same can be said for this years draft. Unfortunately we haven't we weren't picking this high when guys like Reggis Bush or Manning or Rivers were coming out so we have to take what we can. Now with that being said, I hate to sound negative but since we are rebuilding it's safe to say we will probably be picking very high next year as well. What would everyone here think if we were in position to pick Tim Tebow??? I know we are still WAY far away from the next draft but when we can all agree that we will be rebuilding for a couple of years and I hope we rebuild through the draft more than free agency I think it's ok to plan this far ahead. The only teams that might pick ahead of us in 09 and take a QB are Atlanta, SF, Detroit or KC. The other question is whether or not people think Tebow will make it as an NFL QB, I personally think he could play now but obviously that can't happen.
I think that Ronnie showed last year that he is a legit RB in the NFL, he was on his way to a career year and was one of the best at his position before injury. So Ronnie was indeed worth the #2 pick IMO. As for Reggie Bush, he hasn't come anywhere near living up to his hype. I don't know much about Tebow, but I think that John Beck will be just fine once we can get him some protection, a #1 WR and a TE that can get open downfield and catch the ball.
I think most people are very quick to dismiss Tebow because of his style of play. However, he has shown amazing progress from year one to year two as a passer. I would not be surprised at all for him to end up being a quality NFL qb. That being said I think Beck is going to be our guy and when we get pieces around him he will prove to be a good field general for us.
Agreed, at this point Ronnie is a much better runningback than Reggie Bush and as in their 2nd seasons respectively, I think ronnie has outproduced reggie
It's hard to say if he could play at the next level. Obviously he's a phenominal college talent, but he's currently running the spread, which is gaining more favor in the NFL, but teams throw out of it a whole lot more than UF is. Much of his game is also predicated on faking the run or keeping teams off balance with it. Part of that is he, himself, running the ball. Can he handle passing it more? Can he handle the much harder hits he'd receive in the pros? I would think he can, but another season of play should tell a good deal about him. I think it's a moot point anyways for next year as I believe he'll play all four years at UF and won't enter the draft until 2010.
Well I am a little biased as a Gator Fan, but Tim has the size and the Arm. Lets just say this I think he will be a better NFL Qb than Alex Smith (a guy that ran the same offense in college).
Agreed on all accounts L2G........and for the record, Bush wasnt worth a second round pick at this juncture... IMO of course.
I thought this was going to be a thread about bringing in Michael Vick in 2009, if he is out of jail.
Just wait till he gets out of jail, you will see those threads, guaranteed. I'm willing to bet my house on it. Thread titles for 2009: "Michael Vick!!" "How about Michael Vick?" "Let's sign VICK!" "Vick is a free agent, should we be interested?"
I don’t understand the idea that the Gators are going to use two quarterbacks next year to give Tebow some relief, instead of using a decent running back or two. I know they have Chris Rainey, who was a star for the Lakeland State champion team. How the heck can’t the Gators get a running game going? I think Tim having another year will prep him for the next level if they feature a more balanced attack and stop relying on his feet, which is not the way he would be used in a pro offense. So, too early to project Tebow in the pro’s, or you’d have to say right now, we haven’t seen enough.
