Title makes it sound like he commited suicide. If I hadn't read the story earlier I probably would have assumed it. Maybe the title should be changed to something slightly different.
Why? The hyper link clearly states he shot himself in the leg and the quote I used states that he isn't in any danger of dieing because of it.
The title for the thread where it says, "Plaxico Burress shoots himself", it made me think he committed suicide as well.
What a dope. Seriously why does he need to even be carrying a gun in the first place? If he feels the need to carry a gun maybe he should think about either changing his lifestyle or maybe not putting himself in those kinds of situations. I guess these guys have a short memory of guys like Sean Taylor and Darrett Williams. Or even the crap that's gone on with Pacman. He needs to smarten up or he'll just be a huge waste of talent.
I meant the thread title before you click honestly I don't really care, just offering a suggestion to make the title less shocking. Maybe the mids should just add 'In the leg' to the end of it.
that was so perfect.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvqqzaX0yVI]YouTube - 8 Mile - Cheddar Bob Shoots Himself[/ame]
In a serious vein, I hope he gets taken to court and given a harsh sentence. Its time to send a message to these ultra priveledged athletes that they need to clean up. Goodell also needs to come down with a pretty harsh penalty as well. This kind of behavior should simply not be tolerable by any means. I also wouldnt be shocked if he gets cut before the season is over, and Im pretty sure there is no way he is a Giant next year. I cant wait for a team like the Raiders to jump all over him (providing he isnt in jail). Seriously, these douchebags just arent worth it.
Yeah I heard. I hope he gets no special treatment for being a football player, a message needs to be sent. We need far less Plaxicos in the league. Im disgusted by the casual acceptance of players like these while quality guys get largely ignored. Fitz/Boldin in AZ, Andre Johnson in Houston, Reggie Wayne in Indy. No, all we hear about is Burress shooting himself with an illegal weapon. Kick these losers out of the league already!
That's exactly what the New Jersey Mayor said. He said he wanted to make an example of him and wanted him behind bars. I can't argue with him because I'd like to see it to for the same reasons you list.
It's the WR mentality I guess. Heck, even the Marvin Harrison news came out of nowhere. And he was supposed to be the beacon of humility and cleanliness.
He's gotten in trouble before the gun incident. He had a scuffle with a couple teenagers back in 03 I think it was.
Relatively unreported compared to this incident though. Still, Harrison was a lot more celebrated as an antic/trouble-free WR for most of his career even after 03.
Not entirely true, its just the incidents with WRs garner more attention. I dont really care what position they play, if they are doing stupid **** like this they need to pay a price. Im tired of seeing a league full of thugs. Boot their sorry asses out of the league.
Well, WR is a position that does garnish a lot more attention in the general public than say offensive guard. People do stupid things and that includes football players.
For carrying a firearm into a bar, I'd agree. Disagree, it was an accident and the only injury was to Plaxico himself, did Goodell fine McCown for hitting himself with that chainsaw? Couldn't disagree more, he was carrying the pistol to protect himself, not to knock over a liquor store, now you or I would not be in a place that such a measure was needed, he however felt it was needed I can respect that decision, to carry to protect himself, now carrying into a bar, and then behaving poorly when doing so was a mistake.
I have to admit, I will be a little outraged if Plaxico ends up doing more time than Michael Vick. His "crime" if you even want to call it that since strict Constitutionalists will even argue is not a crime at all, is that of a knucklehead who was trying to be macho at a night club. That's a crime most people could forgive. We all know what Vick did and he's doing only 23 months. 3.5 years for Plax, really?
Umm, his "crime" is a state felony that comes with a minimum 3 year jail sentence. Hes carrying a gun for protection? What?!?!? Protection from who? If hes somewhere thats dangerous to the point of needing a gun, then take your *** home! Stop playing the thug and be a decent person. Theres no excuse for "needing" to wander around with illegal firearms. Hes already about done for the season, I doubt hes a Giant next year either, and I hope hes not. Coughlin is not the kind of guy to suffer these thug wannabes. Go mess up some other team. As for Vick, he got an outrageously light sentence, mostly because laws dealing with animal cruelty are far to lax. I wouldnt compare his sentence to anything Plax might get. Vick should have been behind bars for far longer than he was sentenced to.
I know what point you are generally trying to make, but let's be honest, an NFL stars need to protect himself is in most cases going to be a hell of a lot more pressing than that of your average joe.
