Kind of shocked there is not one already, but I figured we all need a thread to debate the winner, ecspecially with the race so wide open. Me? I have flip flopped but after watching McCoy play last night he looked like the best player in CFB, now that could very well change by Sunday but right now my top 5 looks like this. 1.) McCoy 2.) Bradford 3.) Crabtree 4.) Tebow 5.) Harrell ...thoughts?
I think you can flip a coin between McCoy and Bradford atm. I was leaning towards Bradford, and would probably still give him the edge, but i'm not as convinced I was last week. I have the same bottom 3 in probably the same order. An argument can be made for Tebow or Harrell 3rd I suppose, but I think Harrell blew his chance last week. Tebow has a chance vs Bama to maybe change some votes his way.
Thing with Tebow is he would have to be heads and above the rest I think to get it a second time, at this point even having a great SEC title game wouldnt be nearly enough. Ecspecially since right now he is only "in" the conversation. But man is the Big 12 south the best half of a conference ever??? Likely 3 teams at 10 or 11 and 1, with all three maybe finishing in the top 5,and if thats not enough likely the three top Heisman canidates. Hats off to those 3 teams they are truely fun to watch.
I agree with really all of that. I thought heading into the season Tebow would have to be near perfect to get it a second time. He's been really good, but what the Big 12 QB's have been doing this year is just ridiculous.
Sure. I was taking nothing away from Tebow his performances are amazing along with his character. It's just that even if he was the fron runner he would have to beat the politic's also.
Tebow is the best player in college football period. Also PercyHarvin not being mentioned on some lists is amazing to me. The Guy has scored a TD in every game this season
Their should be no question at all. Tim Tebow as not played a full game in almost 2 months. He leaves most before the 4th quarter. If all you look at is his stats than this is a down year. However the fact that he is playing better than last year and because he does not throw the ball 50 times means he is not that good. Best in College Football!!! Percy Harvin is having just as good if not better season than Michael Crabtree. Percy should be alot higher on the list and even a candidate to win it. however don't listen to me look at the numbers. Michael Crabtree - Rec yards - 1072 Rec TD - 18 Average Rec - 12.8 Rush yards - 1 Rush TD - 0 Average Rush - 0.5 Percy Harvin - Rec yards - 595 Rec TD - 7 Average Rec - 17.0 Rush yards - 525 Rush TD - 8 Average Rush - 9.5 * Percy Harvin did not play in the first game of the year v.s. Hawaii becuase he was trying to recover from off season heel surgery.
1-Bradford 2-Mc Coy 3-Tebow 4-Harrell 5-Crabtree 6-Harvin Tebows best chance is to win Natl championship impressively and that the the Big 12 votes cancel each other out.He was pulled out after the first series of the second quarter last game and he has been pulled early in most games where the score was overwhelming in favor so he doesnt have the glaring numbers .If someone calculated the mins played he would be up there . Harvin has not gathered up enough steam to cancel Tebows votes IMO.
Well Skeet bottom line is most voters/experts disagree with your unbiast opinion. Tebow is a great player but with everything being equal surrounding talent included i think he would be the third QB I would take. But hey good news for you I dont have a heisman vote. Sorry but Crabtree's #'s are better than Harvins IMO...plus Crabtree made oneof the most important plays in CFB this season, Harvin is a stud but no Crabtree. Plus Oklahoma, Texas, and TT have all played a tougher schedule than UF and there #'s are still better.
Crabtree's numbers are not better than Harvins and someone who is unbiased also might think that. I was hoping to get more opinions, But I guess not. Oklahoma, Texas, and TT have played tougher games and thats nice for them. Its not like the Gators cake walked thru some easy teams. They played in the SEC and while they did not play the Top heavy teams like them they play a tough schedule.
The Gators didnt have an easy schedule but it was no where near as tough as the past few years, ofcourse the SEC has two great teams then a big drop off so you cant blame UF for the SEC's down year. I think UF beats BAMA and we all get the Oklahoma UF game, then again when you look at OU's bowl record of late its hard to think they could win it all.
I agree it'd be very close. To me they're 1 and 1A really. I think Bradford pretty much clinched it with all those TD's and 60 point games barring any slips during the Missouri game. I still wonder if he's NFL-ready coming out of a spread offense and Oklahoma's history with QB's turning pro, but he's my Heisman frontrunner.
I think he's NFL ready. I can understand the concerns about coming out of a spread but I think he has the tools. The worry I have is when he's being pressured and when he sees complex defenses. I taped the OK St game and while I haven't looked at in depth, I noticed that when blitzed, he made some bad decisions and threw when he wasn't set. If memory serves me right, Oklahoma State threw in a few stunts and different looks and Bradford had trouble.
That's pretty much one of the main concerns about spread offense QB's, lol. When he gets blitzed, he will make bad decisions. And with the spread as a crutch, he can get away against some complex defensive schemes. Running 5 wide will get you those gaudy stats.
AGREE TOTALLY CT. Tebow has a better chance than most think because of the electoral college ..... McCoy, Harrell and Bradford are even Crabtree are going to split those votes in the Midwest...Sanchez will get a few votes out west and the Southeast will favor Tebow heavily. I personally think Bradford deserves it but TEBOW definitely has a shot. IMHO Tebow was better this year but did not have the same numbers...and it benefited Florida as a team not having Tebow take so many hits especially on all those 1-3 yard TD runs he had last year.
I would go with Tim Tebow. No one can do what he does. If he has to win the National Championship Game to prove it, I think that is exactly what he will do.
Unfortunately I think the Heisman voting is before the Natl Champ game . Somebody please confirm If so it looks like Bradford is a shoe in .He has another chance to shine by destroying Missouri .Tebow will have a tougher game vs Bama
I will confirm. I remember tOSU's qb was the heisman winner when the Gators beat them in the Chip. Tebow's heisman win came into question when the team lost to Meeechigan in a bowl last year. They were both rewarded prior to the bowl games
I think it's a coin flip between Bradford and McCoy. Bradford should have a slight edge b/c he had the more recent great game. I think they'll split most of the votes from that region with a few being syphoned off by Harrell and Crabtree. However, if most of the votes in the South go to Tebow and the rest of the country splits their votes then Tebow might squeak out the win. I wonder if Tebow will vote for himself?
It's Bradford's to lose IMO. Its kinda funny how things change, you heard alot of people say last year "Yeah, Tebow's numbers are crazy but his team isn't playing for a title." This year you could say the opposite or you could potentially say both about Bradford. IMO McCoy is out of the running by default of not playing anymore and not leading his team to the Big 12 title, regardless if it was out of his hands. The conference championship games will decide things this weekend IMO.
Nice to have you back motion. I think If Bradford bombs it will go to Mccoy, ofcourse if you ask me Texas should be going to the Big 12 title game...not taking there turn pounding Ohio State in the Fiesta.
If Bradford bombs and the Gators win it will go to Tim Tebow. Colt Mcoy is out of it unless they both have horrible games
Just suprised you can discount Mccoy's chances...I mean honestly he is the top 2 for alot of "experts" out there, yet you say it will take bad games by Bradford and Tebow for him to win? I feel bad for Texas and Mccoy because they beat Oklahoma on a nuetral field and their ONE LOSS was to a top 10 team with a top 10 pick making a great play. Hard for me to believe they are not the first or second team in the country, and very hard for me not to believe Mccoy is one of the top two players in the country.
Bradford and Tebow will be playing for a Championship. They have another game to shine while McCoy does not. Sorry I just think its their for either Bradford or Tebow to win. I am not saying that McCoy is not deserving. It will just be hard because the other two qb's will be in the National Spotlight on a week were there are only a few games. I feel bad for McCoy and the Longhorns myself however there is an argument for all three teams. Besides Texas has a BCS bowl locked down and thats not bad at all
Tebow's numbers aren't good compared to last year which will hurt him, and Tebow's numbers aren't good compared to the "top" QBs out there. I don't think he deserves it over Bradford or McCoy, and I am not sure he deserves it over Harrell either.
Numbers don't win the Heisman. However lets look at the numbers YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT Sam Bradford 2008 268 393 4080 68.2 10.38 77 46 6 9 190.97 Colt McCoy 2008 291 375 3445 77.6 9.19 91 32 7 20 179.20 Tim Tebow 2008 160 246 2299 65.0 9.35 70 25 2 14 175.46 When you notice the numbers try looking at the attempts. Tim Tebow has more than 125 less attempts than McCoy and even less to Bradford. If you look at average and Rating they are all about the same. Tebow has left alot of games early due to the score being so out of hand. Also note that Florida has one of the best rushing attacks in the country (Even better than Bama) which also hurts Tebow's numbers.
