Below are a list of 1-15 teams and how they fared the following season.

    1996 Jets 9-7
    1989 Cowboys 7-9
    2000 Chargers 5-11
    2001 Carolina 7-9
    1991 colts 9-7
    1990 pats 6-10

The median win total for those teams is 7.16 wins the following year. So hitting rock bottom isn't necessarily a bad they for the future of a franchise. IMO it shows you how little divide there is between being competitive and down right terrible. It gives teams an opportunity to draft impact players. Smart drafting is the key to turn things around and adding key low priced but effective role players. High priced free agents is a risky investment. They could come play their hearts out or just get fat off thier huge contracts. When you have alot of young guys they generally play harder even if only for the promise of getting a better contract. It isn't a coincidence that player have their best seasons in a contract year.

It's why I laugh at Bill fans for thinking their team is clearly better then Miami. We have 10 starters go down this year and everyone seems to think that is irrelevant, well it's not. Take out the best five players on any team and see what happens.

Nice post captain, just what the doctor ordered. Just goes to show that you can bounce back quickly, whether it through coaching, FA, the Draft, being unlucky, or most probably a combination of most of them.

Oh, and I forgot morale and injuries too.

It was irrelevant. The simple truth is we sucked before those injuries. Yes we sucked more without those starters, but even with them we weren't even bad, we were just horrible.

Not entirely, I think we win 1-2 more games if we have Zach and or Ronnie for the whole season. Would it really make or break us? No, but it was an issue. And overall this post does show that with careful planning and good player selection you dont need to be down for 10 years, you can bounce back pretty quick.
That more than anything though is the key, continuing to supply your team with good talent and solid players, as everyone knows we have largely failed to do for years. I think if we have a good solid draft, get maybe 2-3 guys out of FA who can start or contribute good minutes we will be a much improved team. I can see us getting 6-7 wins this year if we play our cards right and have a few things bounce our way. Our luck at least is bound to change somewhat after years of crappiness, though ofc as always you make a good chunk of your luck.

definitely ronnie, he was starting to have one of his best seasons. he was keeping pace in the top 10 in the league...and we were depending on him, that's for sure. how do you win games with no throws, catches, or protection? lol

Both the Bills and Bengals had more injuries then Miami. So what's the point?

They were both deeper teams than the Dolphins. When J.P. Losman went down for example, Trent Edwards took the bill (no pun intended) and stepped up. How do you expect Miami to win when they have 4 members of the secondary go down and they have to sign free agents, a.k.a. players that weren't good enough to be on an NFL roster?!?

I really think Cam had a major part to our season been so bad. The guys was simply not Head Coach materail people would make mistake and they would just walk to the sideline. Other coaches uch as saban, bill belicheck and parcells would have given them a mouthful.
This team can win 6+ game next season with consistent QB plays.

All you guys are missing the point. It doesn't matter how much you agree or disagree, the fact is that all those teams came back from the dead and posted positive records the next year. It would be interesting to find out what they did the following year, after the inaugral season after disaster, but i aint willing to all your dirty work for you. Of course you can work it out for yourselves or ask capt Lou to do it for you.

Capt Lou should make you pay a donation toward FH, for the info, but he wont, so go get your info anyhows guys.

Of course if we dont support these guys on this site, it may end up folding anyway. I am not asking you to donate money, but just be wary that a lot of guy's around here do a lot of work for nothing. So when raffles and things as such come about please support them as best you can. I appreciate that some guys just cant help, and are financially bound, but I also know that a lot of guys here are very PC illitereate and can either help with a small donation, or even maybe with ther IT skills.

For the joy this site gives me, i would willingly give up my last dollar for it, although it doesn't

I do feel that i do my bit though. I cant post as well as Boomer, CK, KB, Aqua. I cant mod like Celtkin, Muck, Crunch, Fin Fan in Cali and Finfan In the Moon, (i know i have missed several crucial members) but this only an example.

I really dont dont know if there is any point to this thread, other than ------I REALLY LOVE THIS SITE-----lets not see it go under because we dont support it

Any team could make the playoffs in those conditions.

Besides their rookie LB, name one significant loss the Bills had!? Fact is, Miami also lost their best QB in Trent Green, their best safety in Bell, their best RB in Brown, their best LB in Thomas, thier best WR Chambers in a trade and we lost several others for a significant amount of time. We hung with many teams before the injuries started to take over, losing 6 games by 3 points or less including a loss to the Texans where they had some stupid amount of 50+ yard field goals.

We never started the same line up in the secondary two games in a row once in 07 and we started 6 different RB's. Against Buffalo in Buffalo we started 6 rookies and 5 backups....thats 11 non starters. If all that is irrelevant then why pay Moss and Brady and Stalworth and all the other big name players the Pats have, if their best players playing is really irrelevant? I'll tell you why you pay them and play them, cause it is relevant!! Fact is you can't show me one team in history that lost as many starters to injury as Miami in 07 and still had a decent season. The reason the starters are starters is because they are the best you have....most of the time.

Fact is Buffalo & Cinci won more games injured then Miami would have won healthy and you can take that to the bank since this team was losing hard before the injury bug.

There you go. You can inform yourself on the Bills list.

All of those teams won four times as many games as us and dealt with injury issues.
