My Hurricanes got their behinds beat bad tonight but I've got to see Michael Johnson once again and he definitely impressed.

Watching the game tonight, Michael Johnson struggled in pass rush in the first two series. He was being blocked very well and couldn't shed the blockers. That all changed after he the third series came as he went to a bulrush that completely dominated Jason Fox. The bulrush pushed Fox into the backfield and Johnson applied pressure on Robert Marve. The following play, Robert Marve went to an out pattern and Michael Johnson intercepted the ball. Playing stand-up pass rusher, he took a couple steps in as if he was going to rush the passer and then dropped a few steps back, into coverage. I've seen this quite a few times done with guys like Trent Cole in Philadelphia. Johnson watched the Quarterbacks eyes and just snatched Marve's bullet pass out of the air with his big hands. He was about six or seven yards diagonally from Marve and just snatched the pass and took it to the house. The next UM series, Michael Johnson dropped into underneath coverage and moved well laterally. He went to the speed rush often tonight and that didn't surprise me as that is what I normally see from him. He also went to an inside spin but was ineffective as he often spun right back into the block. On one occasion, he beat Fox on a speed rush and then went to an inside move, taking himself out of the play. That inside spin wasn't necessary as he would have applied pressure on the Quarterback. I noticed that every time he got tied up in a block, he tried to spin out of it but didn't work. He did a great job of getting his hands up tonight as he had 3 or 4 balls batted down by my count. His long frame is such a big problem for him, especially when he gets his hands up and jumps up, as was seen on the goal line when Johnson batted down a pass that was intended to the WR across the middle. I also noticed that he came out on second downs at times and was out on third downs at times as well (not consecutively). He looked good tonight in front of 40 NFL scouts.

Was hoping to get a good look at Morgan Burnett but didn't get to really evaluate him. I did notice him always being around the ball though.

I think there's several options for our #1 pick.
    In no particular order:
    RT, ILB, OLB, DB

I think they'll see who falls, and take BPA.

    Add NT/DT to that list.

Yes, if there's a very good one worthy of the #19-ish overall pick.

I fear the few very talented ones will be gone by the time we pick, with better value/talent still available in the other spots I mentioned.

But, I agree, it is a position of need.

If you go to the weekend with the phins thread you'll find out that they don't draft by BPA they draft by need.

I personally think our biggest "need" is either LB or RG (we do have Thomas but we don't know for sure whether or not he's good or bad). NT maybe in the year after nexts draft (depending of course who is coming out) but we do have Ferg in and he's signed for a while, I think?

    That's my opinion.
