okay. it's 4:22am. I'm getting ready to lay down. I'll probably go to sleep real easy-like now but.. it's 4:22 am. That's late. Early. Whatever. What do you guys do when you can't sleep?
Been having terrible lung problems, exacerbated by newly acquired bronchial asthma. The prednisone regime has me itchy and sleepless. I have been awake since midnight, after having gone to bed after 9.. I am on day five of this aggravation and it is seriously catching up to me.
Sorry to hear that Marty, I sleep about 4-5 hours a night on average, and that's my normal regimen. My wife calls me a vampire.
I alsmost always have my radio on at night to sleep, I find if its not on, and im not overly tired, i just wont fall asleep, my mind just keeps going and thinking about random junk that keeps me awake. The stereo being on, forces my mind to just kinda of shut itself off, and just follow along with the song, usually im out cold in a few minutes. Sometimes however there's the odd night where not even that works, because i get too into the music for those nights, i bought a cd from Solitudes, called Thunderstorm in the Wilderness... which i find to be very relaxing, listening to the rain and some thunder now and then. In my 5 disc cd player in my room, that cd is always in slot 1 just for those nights... its here from amazon.com if interested, also theres a link to solitudes website themselves, they have a wide selection of cd's meant to relax, and help sleep and so on... http://www.solitudes.com/default.aspx [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Thunderstorm-Wilderness-Dan-Gibson/dp/B000001CZE]Amazon.com: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness: Dan Gibson: Music[/ame]
Tips for Getting Better Sleep; Tips for Personal Sleeping Plan quick solutions I use... take a long hot shower....15 mins or so.. then lay down. i think someone mentioned the reading thing... you need to clear your head....so getting some good sounds into the room to pay attention to other than your thoughts...a radio or a small water fountain. making sure your bed is only used for sleeping is key....if you lay in bed to watch tv all day, it sometimes makes it harder to fall asleep right away. don't designate your bed for anything but sleeping ....and the other thing. LOL
Nothing clears the head better and quicker than "the other thing". Well at least a man's head that is. You ladies are always thinking. Posted via Mobile Device
something i've tried, and its worked about half the time. if you lay still, don't clench up or anything, but don't move a single muscle in your body besides your breathing, you'll fall asleep within 10 minutes. it seems weird, because after a few minutes you just really want to move (especially if you're a tosser/turner type person) but for some reason it works for me sometimes. it's worth a shot.
itchy? thats odd. Are you sure you aren't allergic to the medication? edit: and to fall asleep i watch tv or read............ edit2: and just an fyi most asthma medication is a steroid, so it does get the heart racing. I am a life long asthmatic so I am used to it where as you may not be. Not sure if prednisone does that but you may want to look into it.
Have you tried doing an intense workout before you sleep? I used to have major insomnia problems and always had to rely on Tylenol PMs to fall asleep and felt like absolute death in the morning. Now I do a pretty intense workout and jog 15miles, every day. Take a hot shower right after and I fall asleep instantly. The other advantage is you'll live a much more healthy life and feel great in the morning
If you have chronic insomnia, a key thing to remember is that it is not when you go to bed, but when you get up that will determine your ability to go to sleep. Force yourself to get up ealy if you're typically a later riser. That will reset your clock to a certain extent. Another key is not to do anything in your bedroom beside sleep. If you're reading or listening to music or watching TV -- do it in another room. Otherwise, you can blur the line between wakefulness and sleeping, making it harder to go to sleep. Finally, look into some linen spray. There are some really good aromatherapy products out there that can contribute to a relaxed frame of mind and body. Good luck!
careful: prednisone will make you gain weight. its what made me a skinny, scrawny kid to an overweight kid that no one picked to play sports with.....
sure you would. just like you wouldnt ever staple your face to a blue ball. we all saw how THAT worked out didnt we?
Oh great... Does that mean you are gonna go from being a cranky old Salty Dawg into a REALLY Cranky Manopause Salty old Dawg? As mentioned, many Bronchial medicines are actually speed or steroids. Ephedrine first hit the market in the form Of Primatine Bronchial spray I suffered Asthma as a kid, and yeah, ALL those enhalers were either a stimulant or a steroid...which of course made me a very active youth with a tiny little dingy...
Brother, its truly a battle of the mind...this is what i do... I go to bed, get still and comfortable, take two or three real deep breaths, consciously relax your facial muscles, then your shoulders, then legs, then prepare for the battle of the mind. You have to consciously get a tunnel vision about blocking other thoughts out of your head, battle them and focus on going blank, i swear to you you will think your not going to win ...and all of a sudden your body and mind will trigger you to sleep, when you wake up, you will remember the battle but not the moment you went to sleep. i do this with the help of a lunesta, but have been experimenting without it like on planes, its weird man, if you can battle and just try to go blank your body will take over.
This never works for me, I could turn the infomercials on at 3:00 am and I will not be able to fall asleep with the TV on... That being said, I have legitametly tried to watch Oceans 12 three times and fall asleep everytime. I dont know what it is about the particular movie, but I am out like a light everytime.
