I was watching Countdown this morning and they were talking about the rumor that Sparano was already offered the Dolphins job. He said Parcells is strongly denying the rumor and that the Dolphins are starting to panic because word is now, Sparano might be leaning more towards the Ravens job. Why is nothing ever easy for the Dolphins?
That's what I'm thinking. But here's the article I dug up. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm
Well if it is true it just means we will have to actually inteview coaches and find someone who impresses not just someone who was in good with parcells.
Actually the more I think about it the more I think it is just a smokescreen. Why would the Star Tribune, and his hometown newspaper both report that he accepted the job? Of course the Tuna is going to deny it, otherwise he'd be in deep ****. I'm curious tho, can he accept the job publicly before they are out of the playoffs ? Or must he wait till after the playoffs to accept it?
Sounds like Mort cannot decide on which rumor to go with. Way too much speculation for this to be accurate.
He can't officially join the Dolphins (or any team) until the Boys are eliminated from the playoffs.....per my understanding of the situation.
if he goes to baltimore so be it. i have confidence in tuna and ireland to get the right coach here. dont want a coach that wants to be elsewhere.
I wasn't aware of the whole bringing the assistant into the building rule... that is very interesting... maybe the Phins can get a draft pick out of it... lol...
I don't think many of us are going to lose sleep over whether or not Sparano is our HC. At this point we just wanted anyone who isn't Cameron. ANd we trust Bill, so whoever ends up being our Head Coach, we know for a fact that Bill believes him. (Cause you know, theres nothing stopping Bill from coaching the team for a year until he gets the coach he wants)
But if Bill wants Sparano and we don't get him then what? Last year we took Cameron because there wasn't many coaches to choose from. With Sparano gone who else do we look at?
What the hell is he talking about.. It's not an advantage to bring someone in and see your facility which by the way is not better than Miami's facility's, in fact the more attractive offer would be for someone to go into an organization where you know the key players and trust them, No state Tax and sunshine helps a little as well.. The Baltimore situation is NOT the more attractive setup in my opinion and unless were talking about a huge contract offer over the Fins it's a no-brainer for me...
There are actually two good reasons for Sparano to take the Ravens gig. First, they have more talent than we do so the chances of succeeding sooner are greater. Second, if the Dolphins do turn things around he'll never get the credit like he would if he did well in Baltimore. The long shadow of Parcells would end up getting the glory in most peoples minds just like he'll get the credit for turning around the roster instead of Ireland.I'm not against the new regime in fact I'm all for it. But see who constantly gets the credit for this year's Cowboy team and it's not Wade Phillips. Heck he's on the verge of getting canned based on current rumors.Human nature I guess.
i just want a coach that can get us in the playoffs and possibly the big one. i could care what his name is. god what i would do for a good coach.
I would prefer NOT to have a coach that would rather be somewhere else, so, If he goes to Balt., thats fine with me. NEXT UP.
Is he that good? I have to ask because his resume isnt exactly filling me with confidence. Would it be that bad if we didnt get him?
Mort also said a lot of canidates don't like the Raven's offer because they feel Rey Lewis and Ed Reed have too much control within the organization.
Sounds alot like the crud we have supposedly had with Porter and other players mouthing off if thats true. Unbelievable.
Whom: Nfl What: Conceal we havent interviewed a minority coach and we just made a mockery of the rooney rule....
not entirely. Our vets just didn't like Cam simple as that. They should've handled it better, but they didn't. If Rey-Rey or Reed don't like something about the organization they can get it changed in a heartbeat. They've got the owner's ear in Baltimore.
He'll be Miami's head coach by Friday. In the meantime, expect Leslie Frazier and Mo Cathon to be brought in for "introductory interviews" this week while they finalize the Sparano deal.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think I read that he can accept the job at any time though. Probably wrong, as I don't know anything about these tampering rules.
Which shouldn't be all the difficult considering they apparently share the same agent: PFT Rumor Mill
Sparano can "prefer" the Ravens job as much as he wants, it does'nt mean a damn thing. Who would'nt prefer that job? It's a better gig. More talent and more ready to win quickly. The Ravens are said to be interviewing almost 30 guys...he won't get the job anyway.
The Ravens have a lot more talent than the Dolphins.I can understand why a coach like Sparano might be attracted to that job.He can be a hero quickly by getting them into the playoffs next year. On the other hand the Dolphins need to acquire a lot of talent to be competetive and as we know Wayne does not have much patience .You only have to look at what happened to Cam to realize that another losing season ot two could result in a quick hook with a damaged reputation as a legacy.
I really don't expect Sparano to go to the Ravens unless they offer more money. But there is one thing that might make him go regardless....pride. I can see a situation though where he might want more credit for what he does, if he heads for the Ravens gig, than he would get here since everyone is likely going to say Parcells built this team and got it where it is and whomever is HC is just a pawn.
Also, there's no such thing as "losing out" on a coach who hasn't proved a damn thing on his resume sheet yet. I'm all for Sparano for the sole purpose of trusting Bill's word, but he isn't worthy of losing sleep over if we lose him yet. I mean, he can become a great coach or a crappy one, but that's all hypothetically speaking. I categorize him in the same class as Jason Garrett & Todd Haley. In other words, with any of these guys.......we really don't have much of a clue.
I can see the Ravens bringing in Marty Schottenheimer as the HC and Marty bringing with him Cam Cameron as the OC...
