Hey I heard on the NFL Network that Joey Porter has 13.5 sacks for the season, but no mention of this being or setting an NFL new sack record, so, is there something I'm missing...?

And to let you know how a person's memory fades, I thought Reggie White held that record until I looked it up and then remembered.

Maybe sack records are not that important or prestigious...?

(retraction: below is seasons with 10 or more registered sacks)

    13 Bruce Smith, Buffalo, 1986-1990, 1992-98; Washington, 2000
    12 Reggie White, Philadelphia, 1985-1992; Green Bay, 1993, 1995, 1997-98
    10 Kevin Greene, L.A. Rams, 1988-1990, 1992; Pittsburgh, 1993-94; Carolina, 1996, 1998-99; San Francisco, 1997

I mention this because these guys above are not chump change.......

The record for a single season is 22.5 set by Michael Strahan in 01/02 on a controversial sack of Brett Favre with like 2:30 in the fourth quarter of a game.

I think the record for a single game is 12, set by the Giants last year some time.

Then the above most be sacks of more than 10 in a single seasons and it threw me off and your mention of Strahan returns my thoughts to that give-me sack by Favre I wasn't very happy about it, even though an ex-Jet player held the record for 17 years. And the sad memories of Derrick Thomas...

    Sacks Record per season

    22.5 Michael Strahan, N.Y. Giants, 2001
    22.0 Mark Gastineau, N.Y. Jets, 1984
    21.0 Reggie White, Philadelphia, 1987
    21.0 Chris Doleman, Minnesota, 1989

    Most Sacks in a Game

7.0 Derrick Thomas, Kansas City vs. Seattle, Nov. 11, 1990
6.0 Fred Dean, San Francisco vs. New Orleans, Nov. 13, 1983
6.0 Derrick Thomas, Kansas City vs. Oakland, Sept. 6, 1998
6.0 Osi Umenyiora, N.Y. Giants vs. Philadelphia, Sept. 30, 2007
5.5 William Gay, Detroit vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 4, 1983

So if Joey gets 10 more sacks the rest of the season, he will take over the new sack title record....

Hard to believe that the 72 record withstood the test-of-time, approaching 36 years.....as the Titans threaten and still linger on....

Maybe Favre will lay down for Porter like he did for his buddy Strahan on our last day. I doubt it though.

that Pittsburgh guy is closing in on porter in sacks. I swear if someone from Pitt gets the sack record and not porter I'm gonna stomp my feet and wave my arms and..

    :(

btw, for any team to beat the record '72 record they have to be 19-0 not just 18-1 :D
