players from a certain confrence ( sec, pac 10 etc..) or does it not matter to him. saban seemed to like sec players
Parcells doesn't have a certain conference, but he does have a certain player. They have to be good guys, strong leaders, ect. Saban did love SEC, but he pretty much drafted based on guys he coached against.
Agree that parcells doesnt lean toward one conf over another, but would say he is a blue collar northeast type guy and loves prototypical big football players.
Seems to love kids from the big name schools (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-10, ACC), simply put, I think the Samoan invasion is over.
since Terrence Newman (Kansas State), Drew Bledsoe (Wazzou), DeMarcus Ware (Troy), and Patrick Crayton (Northwestern State) are from power house schools. Honestly man unless you're an unbelievable athlete, the guys from the big name schools are gonna get drafted before them.
He likes big players, large TE's, big d-lineman, smart players, no nonsense guys...I think he retired in large part because of clowns like T.O.
i like seeing us draft big school or big confrence players but when you get a guy like d ware from a small school then he terrerizes the nfl it says something about the scouting department
One thing about Bill Parcells even the players he criticize often follow him to wherever hes coaching. Terry Glenn come to mind.
That falls back to the old trick of converting undersized college DE's to 3-4 OLB. They used to usually be from smaller schools. We've got one in Joey Porter, formerly of Colorado State. Now you're seeing the bigger schools with players like that in Vernon Gholston, Derrick Harvey, Shawn Merriman, etc.
I will forever have that image of Parcells standing on the sideline eyes looking up as Terrell Owens was yapping next to him
A quick note about small schools. Schools that win at the D1AA or even D2 often have a roster of legit D1 players, guys who transferred due to academic or playing time. Marshall (at the time was D1AA) won a national championship with a WR, who transferred from FSU.
