1. Dorsey DT - 6'2" 300 lbs. - LSU Quick defensive tackle is an explosive performer from the inside. 2a. Xavier Alibi LB - 6'1" 225 lbs. - Virginia Tech Speedy outside linebacker has a high level of development and is ready to compete in the NFL. 2b. Martin Rucker TE - 6'5" 255 lbs. - Missouri Athletic senior tight end is one of the most complete prospects at the position over recent years. 3. Marcus Monk WR - 6'5" 220 lbs.- Arkansas Huge senior receiver has shown big play ability lately after dealing with a knee injury for most of the season. I can't imagine a more helpful draft
Well I agree if those 4 picks stay in our control, but I can imagine a few more helpful ones if we trade some players or picks and work it so we have 2 1st rounders and add a 2nd and a 3rd to this mix. Following free agency this draft could shape up to be a fun one. Last year we had 10 picks and used them nicely. This year we could leverage another 10 and certainly do more damage with the position we are in.
Was gonna say the same thing. Also not sure how long Rucker might last, seems a weak class for TEs, either they all go earlier than they should to a desperate team, or they all fall.
adibi is far too small at 219 for us to waste a pick on him, marcus monk is closer to a 5th rounder and that would be a major reach
With Parcells in charge, we're going to be moving to a 3-4, if we can't do it in '08 it will still be asap.
Agreed... It all depends on what we can do at linebacker in the offseason. We have the lineman, IMO, to play the 3-4 (accept nose tackle) but our linebackers for the most part are complete opposites of what Bill Parcells looks for. I'm a 4-3 guy myself. I've always HATED the 3-4. I think it is more difficult to find players for the 3-4, especially with more and more teams playing the scheme.
glad someone said it, the choices for NT's are slimmer than for QB's unless you are extremely lucky, your NT is an old fat re-re-re-retread
Yeah, but when drafting you take BPA not Need. Especially that high in the draft. Think of it this way, it is not like we could not use a good DE too. So I say take who ever is higher on the draft board. I like both Long and Dorsey. I think if Dorsey comes out and dominates tonight (especially bc I think OSU is going to double him like crazy) then he solidifies the pick. Right now, I am leaning more towards Long.
Don't forget Brandon Pettigrew may declare also...... Bennett IMHO is the most "Parcells like" TE........only my opinion...and I personally think Rucker is the better player...maybe just not for a typical Parcells system ..Bennett has more potential as a blocker and is a pretty good "possession type" TE... Rucker is more a down field threat (right now) and a runner after the catch..he is not a great in line blocker .... right now....he is 6-6 and with limited area quickness and long strider that eat up ground in the open field...his short area times at the combine will be of interest to me...he seems on the field to be the TE version of Brandon Marshall ....a tall guy with very good short area quickness that a lot of taller guys do not have. Only my opinion,,,Boomer is the draft expert.........
I think you are on to something with Marcus Monk. Monk, James Hardy, Limas Sweed....look for us to procur a wr with some size.
It's stupidity really. LE- Holliday (tell him to lose some more weight if he likes since he seems to doing it without a care in the world), Roth DT- Soliai, Wright DT- Dorsey, Ian Scott in free agency RE-Taylor, Moses Guess what it took me one pick to figure out a fixed 4-3 defense. It'll take much more for a 3-4 to say the least....
Bud Foster said that Vince Hall is the best player, he has ever coached. I am a big fan of Xavier Adibi...So I asked him if Adibi might go in the 1st round. He said that he is a little bit small for the normal LB in the pros. He went on to talk great things about both of them. He will miss them both dearly next season. I think both Hall and Adibi will have stellar, if not better NFL careers. I would not be surprised to see Adibi lose about 10 pounds and move to Safety. He is fast and has decent hands. His pass coverage is good due to his speed from the LB position. It could take a season or two to learn the reads as a safety, but he is a smart player. If he does stay at LB he will need to gain about 15 pounds of muscle. Either way I would welcome him to the Fins...1st as a LB, then as a Strong Safety. I hope you are right about the pick...I would love to see him in the second. I would not mind to trade down and draft a WR & Hall...or...CB & Hall in the first. Please Dallas send us a truck load of picks. But that will not happen and Hall is also small for a LB in the Big Tuna's scheme of things. Maybe Brandon Flowers will land here...hell just draft a Hokie & I will be happy!!!
After seeing Dorsey last night I wouldn't mind him. I still think Long is the better prospect but to compare the OSU offensive line to Texas Tech's is a joke. Gholston also looked good out there but weather he declares or not is yet to be heard. One guy we need to look at is Larry Grant. He's a LB and was all over the field yesterday. Had the best game for OSU in my opinion.
