If some people are going to bet all bent up about some "nappy headed hoes" then I am going to react the same way about this. He needs to lose his job. Is it not as bad because he didn't say anything about blacks??
It seems like every time Lebby opens his mouth, nothing good can ever come out of it. I don't think I have ever heard him say one positive thing about the dolphins. The guy is a joke.
I'm surprised it took so long for somebody to say that. Even says at the end of the video to report it if it offends you.
i'm not defending the comment he made but what positive thing is there to say about the dolphins? they didn't go 0-16?
Just to clarify, Greg Camarillo, my cousin, is American. He was born in Northern California. And both his parents were born and raised in Los Angeles. He is simply of Mexican heritage. But either way, what LeBatard said was sick. He disgusts me and he should be fired.
I'm sure if would have found something funny to say about black than he would have. It happen all the time. Racism is the basis of all comedy. Take a darn chill pill and drink some wine.
I must admit that I didn't help matters by pointing out that whilst what he said could well be construed as being offensive it wasn't racist because the comments were about religion and nationality not ethnicty. Sometimes I forget that being pedantic about the correct usage of the English language in the internet age is not as much fun for others as it is for me.
for those of you calling lebatard a dolphins basher: he was born and raised in miami, has stated he would never leave, and bleeds aqua and orange. like many others, he's frustrated with the downturn the dolphins have taken in the last 10 years. that said, his comments werent necessarily intended to be racist, but were dumb and off topic.
He doesn't bleed aqua and orange, but considering his job he owes his survival to the aqua and orange. Otherwise his "talent" would get him as far as highschool sports in North Dakota. He is just a jerk who thinks he is more important than he really is.
Coral Reefer, you know the score, racism = ratings. He used it one way on his show and he used it a different way on PTI. LeBatard is reveling in all this controversy.....and all it cost him is an apology.
i agree, look at some of my previous posts, where i stated that he needs to separate his radio personality from his espn one
Wasn't Lebastard the one who used to pick Southridge to lose every week, regardless of who they were playing back when they wont 108 games in 10 years? Never liked the fat piece of crap.
Well - of course there aren't a lot of positives that come out of a season when you only win one game, my last comment was more or less directed at him over the past couple of years. Not just only this season. Even last year and the year before that, I barely heard anything positive about the fins from this guy. Dan could have chosen better words when he was talking about our WR and C. He should just stick to his radio show.
Funniest post I've seen in a while. He has never been an outspoken Dolphins fan just the opposite he has always been an outspoken critic. He just writes rubbish to stir the pot and create controversy. He isn't funny, unless you think haveing an adolescent sense of humor qualifies as funny. All he does is make fun of players and the fins like a wee little girlie man.
I'm finding that I have to turn OFF ESPN more and more. Every body on the channel has to be 'cute' or 'radical' or just plain demeaning to someone or a team that has fallen on hard times. PTI is one of those shows where they interrupt or just talk over each other, often to make the most outrageous comments. If that wasn't bad enough they interrupt a sports news show for more of that stuff. I just say...... no!
Just a suggestion....relax a little guys. LeBatard was trying to make reference to a line from a movie. Anyone seen the movie "The Bad News Bears"? Unfortunately for Dan, the reference was way too obscure. Click the following link and you'll hopefully realize he meant no harm, was not trying to be edgy. He was just trying to crack a joke. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074174/quotes
I don't consider Bill O'reilly a journalist either. Both are just loud mouths who think their opinion is worth anything. I ignore Lebatard on the Herald and 790, but can't avoid him when he is on ESPN sadly
Some of you guys need to get a sense of humor...here's a link to a fellow dolphin fan's blog, but don't be offended as he refers to Beck as The Mormon, Marino as the Right arm of God, and Ronnie Brown as Black Thunder. Read his archives. http://www.finsnation.com/
NO; IT'S NOT. Read my post above and click the accompanying link. He was trying to make a joke by referencing a quote from a movie.
I watch PTI and See him on there quite a bit, he may have been referencing a movie but he wasn't making a joke on this one. Watch every other clip when he makes a joke you can see he is joking. At first when I read about the comments I thought, he must be joking they always joke on this show. But I went home and watched it and he was not joking. You see the seriousness on his face, and then the bewilderment on Kornheiser's face. From watching the exchange I don't see any joke whatsoever.
ESPN is a National Broadcast so they don't focus on one team but many. They're more into the teams from bigger cities and the NFL. Which isn't their fault. Thats what draws ratings. I would say to the people who comment about hating a particular show, why do you watch? I'm really too lazy to look it up but when Howard Stern was on terrestrial radio, half his ratings were from people who hate him. I think Wilbon and Kornheiser do a great job and Espn has duplicated the premise of the show twice with Around the Horn and 1st and 10.
Nice... So he was trying to quote a 30-year-old movie that played heavily on inappropriate(1) humor, including racism... ...and that makes it better? Last I heard, none of those was being used to be insulting... LeBatard was using the respective religions or races as an insult. He directly pointed at the reason for the teams' failure as the fact that Beck is a Mormon, Mauia is a Samoan, and Camarillo is a "Mexican." Just a little bit of a difference there, IMO. (1) For this day and age... Whether you feel it should be deemed inappropriate or not.
To me it dosen't matter if he was trying to make a joke or not. He should be smart enough to know that in today's world there are some things you just can't joke about......... if in fact he was making a joke. He ESPECIALLY should be aware of what could happpen considering he's one that makes a habit of attempting to twist any possible comments he can towards being an argument for racism to stir his audience.
Jimmy the greek didn't insult anyone, he spoke about the very sensitive subject of selective breeding in an insensitive way. Imus made racial insults towards women atheletes, there is a HUGE difference.
