I think this sheds some more light on why we're keeping Ricky for now.... http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7638166
See this is exactly what the last administration failed to do with Welker, and hence lost him. They should have tendered a 1 & 3 pick on Wes, and then NE would never have touched him.
Our qualifying offer to Welker would have had to be much larger for him to recieve the highest tender. The tenders on RFAs are related to the amount we offer them. We did not want to pay Wes that kind of money otherwise we would not have let him go. Im not sure how you related that to Ricky's situation...
I still think we got a great deal for welker, he wouldn't have sniffed 80 catches with us let alone 100, we don't have tom Brady throwing the ball and neither do we have randy moss taking all the safeties deep with him
This thing about Welker will never end here....he's gone and we got Satele and Abe Wright in return...deal with it guys. Ozzy rules!!
Fields was a 7th rounder, but I think we had three 7th rounders in last years draft. Back to Ricky though. What do you think his trade value would be? Anyone think we could get a 6th for him? Maybe a 5th?
We'd be lucky to get any pick for Ricky. He's one puff from a lifetime ban with legitimate mental issues. If someone gives us ANYTHING Parcells/Ireland will pull the trigger. I've long wished him gone after he screwed us the second time. Seems like a good guy, but I wouldn't want him playing on my team. Definitely does not fit the Parcell's announced view of the type of player he wants on the this team.
They won't trade him for a 6th or a 7th while Ronnie has a bad knee from which he has yet to come back. They'll bring him into camp and see how he does. If he does well, they'll play him in preseason games against second stringers to show him off and try to trade him for more than a 6th or 7th to a team desperate for a running back. If no one steps up they'll keep him. If he doesn't do well, he gets released.
Don't forget the "poison pill" in the Cheatriots offer that would have escalated Welkers salary if he played in, IIRC, more than four games.
and we wouldve had a multimillion dollar slot wr with 2 tds and not a franchise center. whew, that was a close one!
All that and AND Wes is only one hit from being done. I liked his heart, but he's not very big, and durablilty will be an issue. Rickey is a cheap insurance policy for Ronnie, we have already seen how that can work. Question is will it?
Has anyone ever heard Bill say anything about Ricky? I personally can't remember him saying good or bad.
The Real Reason We Still Have Ricky.... He has the best connections and the TUNA is new to town. Joke...of course. He can stay and play for the vet min.... or we can trade him to a team willing to give what we want for him. Either way it is a win-win for Miami. Yeah Ricky has not played in the NFL in a few seasons, but that may turn out to be a good thing for him. He can get is mojo back...maybe here or maybe somewhere else. I hope he stays here unless we get a 4th (as a conditional pick that can go upto a 2nd) or a straight up 3rd round pick. If he goes to NE then the **** will hit the fan...lol. He has the ability to be the star of the game. The question is does he have the desire to be that guy again? Time will tell....
The offer for Wes to equal a 1st and 3rd would have had to be a 1 yr $2.5M contract based on the collective bargaining and RFA rules in effect. Sorry, but no way we could afford to give our 3rd receiver that contract. We did the next best thing...made the offer where we would get a 2nd rounder, and then based on NE with the poison pill we negotiated a trade to get a 2nd and a 7th and NE was able to sign and then redo a contract more to there and Wes's liking. We got Satele and A. Wright. (the Fields pick was the 7th from Rams I think for McMike).
