If you think our franchise is screwed up just be glad you're not a Raider fan.If this is true(the owner polling the players in a popularity contest for God's sake) then they'll continue to be the league doormat long after we've gone on to win another SB. POSTED 8:37 p.m. EST, January 4, 2008 TROUBLE IN OAKLAND? Amid the release of a statement by the Raiders that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan (who reportedly had his next job already lined up) won't be fired, we're hearing talk within media circles that leads us to believe that coach Lane Kiffin could be in a little trouble. The rumor making the rounds is that Kiffin wanted Ryan to be fired, and that owner Al Davis blocked the move. There's also talk that Davis polled the players regarding whether they prefer Ryan to Kiffin. Though we don't know the results of the effort, we're told that Davis did the same thing a year ago as to coach Art Shell, before Shell was fired.
Just...amazing....say what we will about Tuna, but we won't be going through what Oakland fans are.... Atlanta is not in much better shape either BTW, they have nothing, no HC, the GM is leaving.
thats what you get I gotta hand it to Al Davis he wants to win but he just cant get the right guys and keep his hands off the team..
I've got a friend that's a big-time Raiders fan, and even he admits Oakland's long been a troubled franchise ... it starts at the top with Al Davis. Say what you want about Wayne, but at least he's hands off, from an owner perspective. Owners like Davis, Jerry Jones, even Blank in Atlanta tend to meddle. Gotta say I'm glad that we don't have that here.
yeah it definitely makes you appreciate Wayne's desire to field a winner without sticking his nose into the actual business of running a football team.I really hope this time he finally got it right.
Wow that is insane if true, my brother is a Raiders fan so I'll have to make sure to let him know about that like he's done to me about the phins record this year. If Wayne ever did that maybe he'd put the poll on finheaven and let us all decide.
I don't blame him a bit for wanting out of that zoo although there's nothing to link his retirement decision to alleged stunts like this.
I'm surprised the old man could do it. The last time I saw davis he looked like he had drool running down his chin and was using a walker. If true, and I were Lane Kifin, I would so be outta there. I mean like in seconds. That is just assinine by Davis to undermine his HC that way.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d805bb49e&template=without-video&confirm=true BTW, it looks Defensive coordinator Ryan staying on with Raiders.
Lane Kiffin did a good job with that team, I don't see why Davis would fire him. He doubled their win total, lacked Randy Moss, and dealt with quarterback injuries. The defense regressed, but that was primarily Ryan's area as Capers was to us.
say what you want about the raiders but they been to 2 AFC Championship and a Superbowl within the last decade. More then we can say about us.
That would certainly be indicative of a move made by a lunatic... although, who would have thought that Al Davis was such a believer in the democratic process (polling players)...
Things are not going to change in Oakland until Al Davis is no longer a part of the team. This is revenge for Stabler's crappy pass that beat us in 1974 playoffs....I still remember crying when they ended our dynasty. Good to see them suffer.
i remember that game. I believe that pass went to Cliff Branch.I was stunned. We were spoiled back in those days and so used to winning that we just took it for granted. Oakland was also the first team to beat us in the '73 season after our unbeaten 17-0 run in '72.it was a 12-7 barnburner as I recall. Ray Guy kept us pinned on our own end of the field for the whole game. Man what a leg he had.
