This season is a wash, IMO. There's no way this team contends. I think most of us knew that from the start. We're also losing our first round pick next summer due to that Ricky Davis disaster. I don't remember the terms, but hopefully it's lotto protected. I know it was last year; not sure if you can go with that option back-to-back.

With that said, we need to get this young team gelling. That should be the only focus. Experience. From our rookie coach down to Beasley, Chalmers, and the rest of the young guys. Let's just get some team chemistry going, fight hard every night, and we should be able to sneak into the 35-40 range of victories. Anything more is a bonus.

Let's face it: Michael Beasley won't turn 20 until January. You can make an argument that he's our second best player right now. He's definitely the second best scorer on the team. That's a prime example of how young and inexperienced this team is, but the future, IMO, is very bright. Maybe we get something for Marion around the deadline; maybe not. We'll have money to spend next summer if we don't.

I'm going to take it easy and watch this young team grow together. Gotta expect the growing pains. Remember, that 2003-2004 team (Wade's rookie year) was 5-17 before they clicked, turned on the switch, and finished 42-40 -- advancing to the second round of the playoffs. Not saying this team will follow those steps, but it's not out of the question.

I just wanted to make a post like this before we go into a pretty tough early season stretch: Philadelphia, @ New Orleans, @ San Antonio, Portland.

EDIT: I believe a home game against New Jersey is mixed in there somewhere. Too lazy to look right now.

Man, it is way, way too early to start this discussion up. No one pegged this team as a contender--no, picking a team to make the playoffs in the NBA does not mean you pick them to be a contender for the championship. (Reference Rockets, Houston and Magic, Orlando.)

We've played 3 of 82 games. Let's stop lustfully eying the panic room.

Heat, Heats whatever you want to call them. I just call them as I see them and without shaq (motivated shaq at that) the Heat are mediocre. At least you got a ring from that gifted trade.

What has Shaq done in Phoenix?

Its true the Heat (not Heats, its already plural) need a big man. But the Diesel is done. No way we're a better team with him.

We need James Jones back badly. we are not getting CONSISTENT scoring from our bench and we are reduced to hoping Cook is on in any given night.

We are tooooooooo small. it almost guarantees that we can't beat anybody with a decent big man.

We better beat philly, because we got an awful stretch coming up.

Um....wow. I'm no fan of the Heat, as Desides, Sec126 and some others will surely attest, but Shaq for Marion was highway robbery for the Heat. If Marion tore his ACL stepping off the plane to Miami, it would have been highway robbery for the Heat, just for the sake of getting The Big Whatever's salary off the cap.

Sean Williams for Dorrell Wright isn't a bad idea, actually. (It's a welcome break from the all-too-frequent "Udonis Haslem for Star Player X" proposal.) The Nets are awash in bigs, with Josh Boone playing well and Brook Lopez as their first round pick, but their only decent swingman is Vince Carter, and they're probably going to trade him. Williams needs to get his head on straight, but he's a plenty gifted big, and can block shots like nobody's business.

Yeah because Shaq really helped us win games last year before the trade right?

And he was the Finals MVP in 06 right?

I do love how you come in here and tralk **** about our team without telling us who you root for that tells me you fall into one of two categories:

    1) Your team is a giant bag of **** and you're ashamed you admit to root for them

    2) You're just a troll who sucks at trolling.

I been apart of this "finheaven community" longer then you. 2003 to be exact. Im not talking trash just the truth. You can probably figure out who my team is just by my comments and if you have been apart to the many Heat threads of the past 3yrs created by Sec126 and Bama (which was hilarious BTW). No im not a troll.

the heat won 15 games last season. We had Shaq for most of that season. Lotta good that did.

Have fun rooting for the New Yawk Knicks, lottery bound once again.

Or have fun losing in the playoffs again if you root for Detroit.

I didn't mean it that way. I'm saying that the season is a wash in the eyes of the fight for contention. Our season is all about developing these young players, our rookie coach, and finding something to take the pressure off Dwyane Wade to make him comfortable enough to want to retire with this franchise.

I'm continually amazed that the arena a team plays in can affect its performance so drastically. All the courts are regulation, for crying out loud.

If we can become one of those great home teams that sucks on the road, I'll take it!

How about Chalmers tonight; tying Caron's rookie record with 7 steals. I'd like to see him get #8.

    That's a new Miami Heat Rookie Record;

    Mario Chalmers - 8 steals. 2nd place: Caron Butler - 7 steals.

Chalmers also tied Tim Hardaway's overall single game record with 8.

So he breaks the rookie steal record, ties the all time steal record.

    Mario Chalmers, 9 steals!

And we're only 4 games into his career.

I'm looking at the box score and Andre Miller played. Miller is a good player IMO. I think this is flash of the potential of Chalmers. This is why I thought it was a steal for the Heat when they got him with the 34th pick. He's a good defender who can shoot the three ball. He shot 46% from the three in college I believe. Obviously I don't expect him to have nights like this consistently in the future but it wouldn't shock me to see him have a few of these in his career. He's going to be a good player IMO.

let's pull out of Iraq and send Mario Chalmers there.

But man, Mark Blount just ruins all chemistry that flows once he enters the game.
