Something tells me that Jones is gonna be extra nice to Parcells, cause there is one thing he wants more then anything and that is our 1st round pick and Mcfadden....

Thanks for the heads up... Kind of pointless to ask for permission to speak to an assistant because Jones cannot block it. Guess rotoworkd isnt aware of this

Don't be surprised if he names a coach within the next 7 days.

People seem to forget that Jason Garrett was here before Jerry Jones "stole him away." At least Jones has not asked us to not go after his coaches/personnel or ask for any compensation. I think successful teams just have to realize that people are going to try to acquire their personnel as coaches/GM's/other personnel get fired or let go. I hope Sparano is our guy.

Maybe I'm wrong, but should not Ireland be calling for permission?? Didn't Parcells say the GM would be in charge?

So who is the GM? Parcells or Ireland?

Neither, he is the assistant head coach. Garrett is OC

Sparano is the OL/Assistant Headcoach, he also called the offensive plays for Parcells last year. Im surprised Parcells is not interested in Garrett makes me think that the rumors of Phillips being fired and Garrett promoted are true.....

One last note Jones is not being such a nice guy without a reason. My personal opinion is, the reason Jones is being so nice to Miami is beuse he wants one player and one player alone and that is Mcfadden.

Parcells may say he isnt in charge, but I am fairly certain he will have his nose in every single move this team makes. Maybe even coaching, regardless of what he says .

Am I wrong in thinking we cant hire or announce him as HC until Dallas is out of the playoffs or SB champs?

i thought it had said last week the conversation requesting permission took place. If so, that answers your question regarding who was in charge - Ireland officiallt had the job when..........Wednesday, right.

And, given what comment Ireland made before he was even offered the job, then I would have to assume he was in the loop of what was gonna take place but thats JMO.

I believe you could hire a Dallas coach as long as it is before they play their first playoff game....you have to do it during their bye week. I just don't think there is any way to interview all the people you want to interview before this, so I think we just have to wait a while. I doubt Sparano would say YES to Blank if he knows the Tuna wants him.

Can't we interview assistants during the bye week that Dallas has, thats a rule I believe.

Im sure during that time they will be interviewing other coaches to qualify with the Ronney Rule. Here is also a small bit from the Miami Herald.....

One last note. I have not been able to find an article stating, but reports are the Ireland is in Dallas today. I'll see if I find something, just a Rumor.....

    True

Well Sparano interviews today w/ Atlanta - if he walks w/o the job then it is probably a 80-90% chance he comes here and is the head coach. Now whether he's worth a dam is another question - we have hotshots before.

Ireland is the GM. But Ireland has only been in the job for about 48 hours and is acting as a GM for the first time in his career. He's got a ton of work ahead of him to settle in, including the Senior Bowl, working with the scouting department, etc.

It's a team effort. Both Parcells and Ireland want Sparano; whether he gets hired today or in a month from now, they're all on the same page.

The franchise is a mess and to re organize it, is a tough task.

It's not about who's job it is to do what; it's about getting the job done. That's how it is in real life.

And like on bold, as long as they're all on the same page, everything will be fine.

I believe with permission all is well and good. Otherwise you have to sit back and wait.

We dont have to give them compensation if the person we are hiring gets a promotion. If your an OC and then another team hires you for a head coach you dont have to give the team your leaving anything.

Even though Jerry is obligated to allow Sparano to interview, Miami still needs to ask permission. That may have something to do with when a team feels it's ok for the interview to take place.

True, but we let Garret go without much of a fight - and we got Ireland now as a return favor for that.

I read that. Part of the rule change was that teams couldn't block their assistants from interviewing during the bye week. And I think the tradeoff was that they couldn't be "officially" offered the job or hired until their team was out of the playoffs.
If Sparano is a Parcells guy, it shouldn't be an issue getting the coaching staff put together and in place, if the Dolphins have to wait for him. Though the fact that Ireland said a coach would be hired soon, suggests to me that they
    A) Already have an "unofficial" deal in place with Sparano. Maybe even to Jerry Jones' knowledge.
    B) They aren't targeting Sparano.

Perhaps but I think what Jones wants most is to keep Garrett .Sparano may be the sacrificial lamb as long as the fins dont touch Garrett .:hi5:

    Saban = huge Hotshot

    Jimmy Johnson = intergalactic Hotshot

    Cam <= Hotshot ;)

    Sparano <> Hotshot

Sparano the Offensive Line coach from the Cowboys is NOT a hotshot.

    Good, because

Jimmy the hotshot marginally worked for us
Saban the hotshot didnt work for us
Cam the hotshot didnt work for us

Time for a non-hotshot wouldnt you agree

I didn't want to mention him.

BTW - There is NO way that Jerry Jones fires Phillips. The media are just clueless sometimes. It's like they want to say anything that might be controversial no matter how insane it sounds...

Trust me I wish we could all have forgotten him! He was a scattershot who should have been shot to give the team a shot in the arm.

I think Sparano will agree to a contract with us tonight or tomorrow then Tuna and Ireland will start getting some assistants for Sparano, then when the season is over for Dallas you'll see us get the other assistant coaches.

    Ozzy rules!!

You won't see Sparano hired until the Phins satisfy the NFL rules and interview a minority candidate. Unless I missed something, taht hasn't happened yet.

I think it will be longer then 7 days. Sparano is likely the choice, and he likely won't be hired until February.

Seems like Sunday is our day with Sparano, dont be surprise if Tommorrow we interview somebody that qualifies under the Ronney Rules. One thing I like about Parcells is that he gets things done quick. My guess that is if Sparano decides that he likes ATL or Balt more the MIA, Parcells will go big time after Garrett or Haley from Arizona. On a final one of the guys Parcells might have liked to target is out of the race, Josh Mcdaniels of the Patriots has said he will remain their OC and will not interview in 2008 with any teams for a HC gig.
