Anyone else concerned Tony Sparano's background is with the offensive line?
I understand he had play calling duty's while with Parcells however it seems he was demoted after Jerry Jones hired Jason Garrett.

If my memory serves me many offensive line coaches that have had oppurtunity to be HC's in the NFL have failed some names that come to mind...Dan Henning,Jim Hannafin,Mike Tice and ofcourse Joe Bugel all these Oline coaches failed as HC's,in fact you might be hard pressed to name "one" oline coach that did well as a HC.

I have an open mind to whatever Parcells wants but Im concerned with this idea

O-line coaches often are the smartest guys in the game. You have to know what the blocking schemes are and be able to read the defenses, and from what I hear Sparano had four years head coaching experience at New Haven (wherever that is).

It should be concerning people that his only qualification for the job is that Bill Parcells "knows him".

    The inner circle!!

I can see it now, Parcells doing a T-Mobile commercial and asking as he looks at the camera "Are you in my Fave 5"?

I think that Cam would have done much better with a mentor and icon above him like the Tuna

    so I am not worried

Tuna's choice will have more de-facto authority in the locker room than a guy chosen by Meuller

it's a little unfair to say Mike Tice wasn't a good HC, cause he was. I mean he got the best out of Culpepper and for a while Moss, under Tice the Oline made guys like Mewelde Moore and Onterrio Smith look good, and the team was always competitive. Mike Tice did a good job as the HC there, its just his players were VERY stupid. (Culpepper, Moe Williams, Moss, Onterrio The Wiz Smith, etc)

If that was the case and he wasn't qualified, the Falcons wouldn't be knocking on his door.

Don't be scared off by his title of Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line. Sean Payton left the Cowboys for the Saints and his title was Assistant Head Coach/Quaterbacks.

Andy Reid was an OL coach.

Reid was a QB coach who never was a coordinator still worked out for philly, but reid was not a Oline coach.

I was originally unsure about Tony Sparano... That is until I saw that he was born on Oct. 7th, nothing bad ever came into existence on that day no matter what the year. I am now convinced he will be a HoF coach.:thumbup:

1983-1986 San Francisco State University OL coach
1987-1988 University of Texas at El Paso OL coach
1989-1991 University of Missouri OL coach
1992-1994 Green Bay Packers OL coach
    1995-1996 Offensive Assistant
1997-1998 Green Bay Packers OL/QB/Assistant HC (wiki's a little unclear as they mushed his bio together)

Either way clearly an OL coach.

While were at it Tony Sparano was also the HC of New Haven 1994-1998, Was Boston University's OC in 1989-1993 and also had stints as a TE coach for Jacksonville and Washington in 2001/2002. He's been an OL coach in New Haven 1984-1987, and 88 at Boston and then 2003 to present for the Cowboys. So he's not 'just' an OL coach.

Also Joe Gibbs spent his first 6 seasons in college as an OL coach. It's how he started out.

Pointless post of the month from me. I figured it was about as ridiculous as a post saying a coach can't be good because he coached o-line. Any coach can become a good HC in the right organization with the right players as long as he has the correct skill set.

I'm a little concerned about him being an OL coach but not nearly as much as I am concerned about having a rookie head coach again.

Anyways I'm not buying the Bill Parcells can walk on water routine till he proves it in Miami.

Why would I be concerned? As long as he has whatever stuff it takes to be a HC in the NFL (as opposed to the slew of college guys that fail and bail yearly) I'm happy.

You seem to be saying he was and he wasn't. In any event, he was.

Now you can do it twice. I didn't read the second page before posting a link to back up your statement RE: Andy Reid being an O-line coach.:confused2:
