To put your cap/bonus money into Offensive Linemen and QBs... I still expect a QB on day one... A starter for 10-12 years...

Perhaps Jake Long scores the fat contract with the no.1 pick...

Or a trade down and Ryan going later..., Qbs will fall..., they always do..., and that is a good thing for us with the extra picks we have flexibility to move up or down..., each round

Def OL. I dont think we go QB day 1 or until the 3rd round unless there is a great player who drops. Parcells had more accolades for Beck then he did Cleo saying Beck showed good poise and accuracy and "the other guy" as he put it did not. If we can trade down, thats great, but its easier said than done and unless god is good too us i feel we are going to get stuck picking at #1

Until it is confirmed otherwise, my expectation is J. Beck is the starting QB in 2008 and FA and draft is used significantly to improve other areas in need of starters. I think we do draft a QB on day 2 based on our current draft slots (3rd on depth chart), and I expect we sign a journeyman QB as Becks backup but not as a starter.

Have heard a few Ireland comments on Beck but nothing so far from Parcells.

I think Beck stays and we get a vet QB, maybe even keep Trent Green. Build outwards from the line. I think we pick one of the Long's or most likely Dorsey whether we trade the #1 pick or not, I still see us trading down no further than that.

Parcells said Beck was good in the pocket and had good accuracy and then said, the other guy, not so much.

im not sold on we have to pick a QB day 1 i mean Parcells found an undrafted gem in Romo.

    No way we pick
    A) Jake Long, unless it is with the Number 32
    B) A Quarterback in the 2008 draft, unless he can punt the ball 65 yards

I think Beck is a Parcells guy. Beck works hard, good character, will put his head down and take one for the team to go along with his abilities as a QB. I think BP will give him a fair shot at the starting job.

The team still needs a couple of QB's unless Green and Lemon stay, but I would expect to draft one in a later round.

While its to early to wager, following FA signings we can revisit this. To me if Lemon and Green are gone and Beck is only QB on the roster, we either have to use FA or draft in some combination to fill the 2 QB spots.

How about someone to stop the run? When backup running backs are getting 150+ yards we could have Tom Brady and Peyton Manning running our offense and we still wouldnt win games!

    DL/DE (#1 Dorsey/C.Long)
    TE (#32 Fred Davis)
    CB/LB/OL next 3 picks!

I agree, and I actually think Green will be retained, but probably as 3rd QB.

The issues we face are...not many good QB's in FA..and not any in the draft. There are a few that might pan out, but we have sooooooo many holes to fill, we cant spend a first day pick on any.

How do you know what Ireland's needs are?

I did not say these are our needs in order, but if you think we are going to win with Green, Lemon and Beck and not bring in someone else at QB, I think you are delusional. :001_rolleyes:

THe verdict is still out on Beck. I think he is gonna be just fine.

The real issue isnt there IMO it is the fact that even when our coaches KNEW the opposition was gonna run a dive right up the middle, we couldnt stop it. That is a MUCH larger glaring issue, and its one that can be corrected quicker than a QB figureing out the defense....

also, exactly WHO are you gonna draft that is coming out? You gonna take Ryan with the 1st? After that you have a bunch of guys that are mid-second round material..IMO....not any better than what we already have, and you lose a pick in the process.

We need a field general... We need depth everywhere..., understand we are starting over... Are defense was on the field the entire season the offense should forfeit their salary...

And yes the talant and depth aren't there yeah I know the story..., that's why Cam Ram are gone

We won't lose a first if we trade down a few spots with ATLANTA and then draft Ryan, and ask them to throw in a starting D-Back like DeAngelo Hall....kills two birds with one stone. If we can get a trade down partner that has an early pick I would do it....if Dallas offers us their two first rounders they better throw in a few more picks or players. If we don't trade down than I think we have to go with Dorsey/Chris Long or Gholston. I think the QB spot will largely depend on whether the Tuna wants to bring in another FA quarterback.

We need run defense. I'm amased so many people are ready to give up on Beck. If we can't stop the run our Qb will never see the field. IF we darft a qb it will be in rounds 4-7. You'll see.

I understand your want for a field general, problem is, now that we are sitting at #1, there are ZERO for the taking...not in FA either..thems the breaks.

If we could score a stud OT at 32, I am all for that. Gosdar Cherilus or Otah are there..

I agree. Also, none of these QB's are worthy of a top ten pick IMO.

IF Atlanta Scenario pans out, I would still take whoever is left of Gholston, Long or Dorsey....

I think there is ZERO chance dallas is gonna trade...

BTW: McFadden might be lucky to be a top 8 pick

Then we'll see..., but Bill can take less and drop down and still get QB or Oline (OT) and still get extra picks..., to shore up the Defense...

i agree with that, and actually wouldnt be against it. I dont want to pay anyone a 40mil garauntee that the 1st pick will command. But if we are forced to pick, Dorsey is mine.

Why are you amazed? Cam and Randy only got one year (yes, I'm aware Randy was here 3 years, but he was basically a puppet for 2 of them). Why should the QB position be any different?

You cannot take a QB in the first 2 rounds of this draft as you put yourself into an immediate QB contriversy. Also, this team has too many holes to double up picks like that. They should take the most valuable player that's not a RB or QB with every draft pick.

Stop with the O-line right now. We need one free agent and Hadnot re-signed, that's it. This team has invested in young OL and needs to focus their draft and FA efforts on the defense which is old, slow and un talented,

We don't need Jake Long and he's certainly not worth the first pick- we need defense

How is this "hating on John Beck?" THe thread starter like most just doesn't want to put all our stock in 1 player and would at the very least like competition for the label "the future of the franchise."
