I can already see this guy being a bust. Portland's Oden leaves early with foot injury | MiamiHerald.com
1 thing pointed out was ever since that injury Oden says he lost Mobility and can't jump as high. Stupid Blazers should have never corrected his leg that was bigger than his other
B U S T even without the injury. Like Charles Barkley said all he ever did in high school and college is Dunk. That aint going to happen in the NBA.
Very unfortunate for sure, and a tough break for Trailblazer fans Still too early to be yelling BUST folks, hes a big kid with very good athleticism.... And with all due respect, Charles Barkley is a freakin idiot IMO. Why that guy gets paid to take up space on the TV is completely beyond me.
Since when is Charles Barkley a bust? If you're saying Oden has the same skill set, that sounds like Oden will have a very good career. That said, I think Oden is overrated simply because he's a big guy. I don't see him being nearly as good as Dwight Howard, let alone a true center like Alonzo Mourning.
Poor kid. You got to feel bad for stories like this. You know that hes been dreaming about playing in the NBA all his life... and he just cant catch a break...
Barkley was saying during the halftime show that Oden is severley limited offensively... and all Oden has done in his life is dunk the ball.
No one can be certain he will "never" be healthy. Look at Wade he's had injury problems as well, its a tough sport. It takes a toll on their bodies. Still way too soon to label him a bust.
Charles says what everyone in the media wont. The truth. You just dont like it because he talks smack about the suns.
And Bynum does what now? He sits under the rim blocks shots and rebounds. He's a massive kid that is also getting mentoring from one of the greatest centers of all time, which is ten times what we can say about Oden. Bynum isnt a rookie either. Oden for all accounts and purposes is still a rookie. And Amare is a vet he's been in the league a couple of yrs and really isnt even a center. He is a PF and is super athletic.
Not for certain but it does not look good. Comparing him to Wade is like comparing apples to oranges.
Bynum actually has a skillset away from the rim. He has moves and can probably handle the ball better than Oden can at this point. Working with Kareem has helped him tremendously. And while Bynum isn't a rookie, he is also only two days removed form his 21st birthday, so age wise, he is right there with Oden. Besides, Oden has probably been playing basketball a lot longer than Bynum has overall. I, personally, do not think Oden is a bust. I think he will be a fine center. Sucks that he got injured. As he said, sometimes you just come down on someone's foot. Nothing you can really do about it.
I know he has a skillset, I have never tried to discredit his skill, the basic point I have been emphasising is the comparisons between him and Oden are unfair to Oden at this point in his career. Bynum plays in LA, gets the best training, and while being the same age as Oden has more NBA experience. Age factors in alot, but you have to factor in the talent levels he has around him as well compared to Oden. Roy is great, but he is no Kobe. Then you have Gasol, Odom. A deep bench, on and on.
That's odd. I thought Oden's supposed strength was his ability to produce instant offense, with his defense being a liability. Either way, I'm not impressed with Oden. Kevin Durant was the best player in that draft, not Greg Oden.
That I wont argue with. Good big men are a dime a dozen now a days, so I dont blame Portland for taking the risk. But Durant and Roy could have been a great tandem.
Nah, I have hated Barkley since he spat in the face of a seven year old girl Waayy back in Philly, then refused to apologize. I booed him hard when he was in Phoenix, which was before I was even a Suns fan He is fat, arrogant and ignorant. Two of those things I find offensive, the second two.
1. Barkley is great he should be on any pre-game show regardless the sport. 2. Oden has only played one game but has been injured twice already. He has potential bust written all over him.
I don't see those things from Amare. One thing that I do know is that he's a bonehead. He went through four (?) high schools because of grades and other things.
Oh yeah as for the original topic, calling Oden a bust now is like calling a rookie WR a bust after he drops a ball in his first NFL game. As Rocky said, people need patience. Oden will be a good one in my opinion. I do think that his health could hamper his potential but I think that he will still be a good one.
How many NBA players do you know that don't do that? Duncan does it, Shaq does it, Kobe does it, Jordan did it, every player has done it and does do it. I don't get your point here BK. Are you just saying this because you dislike him? Regarding Barkeley, I think he can be ignorant at times but I also find him funny and enjoy watching him talk.
It isnt his play that have the bust word being whispered, it's his injuries. I dont know how anyone cant be concerned about it to some degree.
That's correct but its something unfortunate. He can't control the injuries. I think its definitely a concern but to call him a bust because of something that he can't control is incorrect in my opinion.
How is it a concern at this point? He had a surgury last yr that he had put off for along time. Now he has an ankle injury? It happens alot in basketball. He's 7 foot, he's a huge man. His ankles are under alot of pressure, He's not a bust yet, he's just had some bad luck. We cant label him Sam Bowieish yet.
I could be wrong here but I think he had nagging injuries in college. Didn't he have a wrist injury as well? He had microfracture surgery, I also heard he had back troubles but I don't know how true that is. I do agree that it happens a lot in basketball and that he's had some bad luck. I thought that's what I said in my last post when I said it was something he couldn't control? And I agree that he's not a bust at all.
