Good! We only gave Houck 2 talented players to work with... and he turned them into studs...

A testament to Houck's talent as a coach. We should not have let him go.

Hopefully he is still available to get re-hired by whoever is appointed as the Head Coach.

Well Mueller was given the GM job, and had control of what players we drafted, traded, and acquired, and saying the team did not have good players is definitley a shot at the GM.

I don't see the parting shot at Mueller at all.

He was stating a fact we all know.
    This roster is lacking talent.
The reason it is lacking talent can squarely be laid upon past regimes not Mueller as he just took over this year.

Mueller did about as much as he could in 1 year to acquire talent IMO.
Remember that there teams are limited by numbers of draft picks, availability of Free Agents and a salary cap.

So again, I just don't see that Houck was calling Mueller out.
He was simply stating that the situation on this team was more challenging than others.

    Again, don't see it.
Houck is a smart enough man to know that the roster problems weren't created by Mueller and that there was no possible way they could have been fixed by Mueller yet.

Cam and Mueller for the most part split the player aquitision duties, and it sounded like he took much harder shots at Cam, than at Mueller which is misrepresentative of the thread title, which is my point.

I hope that we rehire Houck. I think he could flourish with the new Coach and GM. He definetely do everything he could with our O-line and this past year showed that it was probably our best group.

How this a shot at either one of them?

"I thought (Cameron) was pretty well-prepared. Our meetings were no different than some of the Super Bowl teams I've been on," he said. "The only difference was the type of players we had. The other places I've been, we just had better players."

It's a knock about not having enough good players...that goes back to years of bad drafting.

Drafting Ted Ginn with the #9 overall pick is not doing all you can do to acquire talent. If it was not his pick, and he wanted to pick somebody else, he should have fought the pick. I had faith in Mueller took, be he let us down, just like everybody else has been doing in the front office over the years. It is just time to clean house. Like Houck said, you can't fault Parcells for cleaning house.

This is the statement that I found interesting

"I thought (Cameron) was pretty well-prepared. Our meetings were no different than some of the Super Bowl teams I've been on," he said. "The only difference was the type of players we had. The other places I've been, we just had better players."

Pretty much the same take I had on Cameron and the 2007 version of the Dolphins

I agree. He didn't deserve to get fired IMO but I understand the philosophy of letting a head coach have some say in who his staff will be.

I get your point. Maybe it was not a shot at Mueller. I think Mueller was a tool anyway.

Unless you have an agenda and force yourself to read hard between the lines, in no way was it a direct shot at the GM. What is was is a direct shot at only the players...not a GM past or present directly, not a Coach past or present directly. Indirectly perhpas, but the shot is directly at the "type" of players currently on the roster.

The follow up question should have been, "when you say the difference was in the "type" of players we had. Can you define "type" in this context???

I wish reporters would go beyond the sensational quote, and dig to the heart of the mater.

unfortunately Robiske said that he isnt sure Ginn is capable enough of being a #1 reciever, on the other hand (For the Quinn lovers who thought we should have chosen him) shea thought Quinn wasnt capable enough of being a franchise QB... How much creditibility can we give either one of these guys now in their opinions of both players? 0 since they were both canned...

With all due respect, that is still up for debate.

    That's simply your opinion.
We won't really know how good this draft class was for a few more years likely.
If Ginn starts realizing potential and becomes a game breaking WR next year I assume your tune may change.

I'm not saying it was or wasn't a good pick as I nor anyone else at this point can be sure.

And the previously quoted statement he (Houck) made might be enough to get him back.

It isnt unreasonable to think Hud might be back, but my money has him following Cam...probably to KC..

If anything, this would be a shot at Saban. Saban openly admitted that his approach to the line and the reasoning for Houck's hiring was to take 4th-5th rounders with some physical ability and have them coached up. Mueller gave Houck much better material to work with in Satele than Saban ever did with Toledo and Alabi. There was a lengthy discussion on FH regarding Houck's ability to polish turds and whether or not having Houck around had improved the line any and it could be boiled down to: more Sateles and Careys and the line will be better. That simple.

Talent was lacking on this team because many of the starters were injured and its never good to start 4rookies. What did everyone expect to happen?
Brady Quinn would not have made a difference this year on the Fins, so the argument that they made a mistake with Ginn is just stupid.

I guess time will tell. But Ginn looks scared to me. He better get that fear out of his system if he wants to be great.

Pick no.9 at good time for Willis or Okoye..., if BQ made them nervous...

Our D could have used the energy infusion considering they were on the field 3/4 of the game...

We can make the argument that the D was where we should have gone at 9 thanks to the benefit of hindsight - not that Willis or Okoye were going to be bad picks at that spot regardless but the consensus decision both in the fanbase and management was that our offense was going to be a bigger priority than the defense. That was proved incorrect during the course of the season, and Cam and Mueller are gone for it.

Houck is one of the best OL coaches in the NFL.No one disputes that but he was paid the highest salary for an OL coach because he sold the fin hierarchy on the theory that they didnt have to spend a lot of cap money or high draft picks on OL .

The theory might have worked had he been given more time and better material to work with but the 1-15 record brought on the mass firings.

There were so many holes on this team that RanCam prioritized the skill positions which is understandable.

Unfortunately they threw away the baby along with the bathwater and in turn the throwers are getting thrown.

Lifes unfair .Houck was thinking about retiring anyway but if he doesnt he will be fine.

I didn't see ZTmaking it through the season..., too much and tear..., and yes he should shut it down for the sake of his family...

I Love the guy..., but I would have went with Willis based on his season and what was it the Senior bowl(?) His team lost but he was a beast..

Then (Draft time) and now, Willis wouldve been the right choice. Ran/Cam went for the homerun with the homerun hitter in Ginn..and now they are paying the price

True, but I dont think anyone thought the D would be this bad. In the end I think we will look back and say that Ginn was worth the pick.

i'am so on the fence when it comes to mueller, IMO i saw five guys on offense that could all turn out to be studs, maybe i'am a a homer but dam did beck look good after that intial blunder, i''' be damed if ginn did'nt have his best game and stepped up, LOBOOK is the real dea' samson and regan are solid.

It was amzing to watch those five players touch the ball on those two touchdown drives.

All they need is to all go in the same offseason traing program, put on about 10 lbs of muscle each and we might have the best draft we ever had
