Star Wars: The Old Republic Revealed As Ambitious MMO http://pc.ign.com/articles/922/922115p3.html Live blog LucasArts Massive Reveal: The Liveblog http://www.swtor.com/ This will be a very interesting game to watch developing. Bioware one of the best companies if not the best in rpg games taking a massive multiplayer. For one I loved the KOTOR games and I do kinda wish this was a KOTOR 3. Though I am curious to see how bioware does with their first mmo attempt Few screens
I love the idea. I am disappointed that they see this as KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Too bad they didn't go all Final Fantasy on us with KOTOR. It could of been a brilliant series
A major cause could be the success of the KOTOR graphic novel series. And there's still the canon issue to worry about. I'm disappointed that this is an MMO seeing as I really wanted to see them put a KOTOR 3 in a 360. They have yet to explain what happens to Revan and the Exile (maybe even Zayne Carrick).
God it looks like a train wreck. Whats even worst is what they said this is essentially KOTOR 3, 4, 5, and 6....
I will say that I am going to buy this game. It looks amazing. Sounds amazing. In fact I want to win the lottery or make enough money so I can take a year off and do nothing but play this game when it comes out
I am not sure how this will be but I have a lot of faith in bioware. They are by far one of my favorite companies. Seem to always put out quality products.
Actually I'm seeing its more story driven and your given 1 companion who his.her own story, and the storyline depends on class. This will be a first for a MMO if they pull it off.
I agree though heck, at this point, I'd even take a KOTOR that's just hastily slapped onto the Mass Effect engine over an mmorpg.
when the game comes out, let me know what server all of you plan to play on. you guys plan to go Sith right?
The 2nd one was so buggy and convoluted that it nearly ruined the experience. The PC version crashed every 20 minutes and they forgot to delete all the content they removed from the game. A few people looked into the code and they found whole new sequences, subplots, and items that didn't make it into the final product still on the disc. Pretty much a half-assed piece of work by Obsidian that piggybacked on what Bioware did.
That is not true at ALL. Obsidian busted their ****** to make KOTOR II a wonderful experience. It was a combination of Obsidian trying to do too much and Lucas Arts not giving them enough time and sticking to it having to be released. Obsidian had one year to upgrade the system and create an epic dynamic story line. They had to familiarize themselves with code that they did not write and then make it better. A lot of the reasons the subplots and sequences were cut were because of bugs that they just didn't have time to fix. If they had 6 more months to work on this game it would of been an much better experience. Especially at the end.
Yea, if they had more time, it would've been better. But they didn't and what got out there was half-assed.
While obsidian didn't do a great job, the blame should lie with LA. they forced Obsidian to release the game before it was finished. I have read about those issues but never experienced them myself on my PC. I did use a lot of fan made mods & fixes, so that's the reason why I never experience these said bugs, plus I didn't buy the game until years after the game was released. While KoTOR 1 storyline was awesome, i prefer the look and combat system of two more. to each their own.
Thankfully, many of those responsible for the whole mess at LA are either on different projects now or fired. But either way Obsidian didn't do a good job and I've seen quality games produced in less time that still were less buggy and better rounded. For me, it was every 15-20 minutes so I had to save accordingly. Heck, even my X-box version froze more than any other game. That's true the look and combat was better though the storyline was nothing compared to the first especially with a lot of holes.
The problem is obsidian probably had all these ideas to make KOTOR 2 just as great. Then into production Lucas Arts demanded faster release. So all their work and ideas had to be changed and scrapped. Causing the bugs that occurred. That's my guess.
I hope LA doesn't rush Bioware in making SW: KoTOR MMO. Speaking of Bioware, I hope they make ME2 & 3. Love ME & can't wait to see Dragon Age.
they didn't build it. It takes time to figure out someone's code and engine. Generally it takes at least a month if not two. It also takes time to test programs. It takes time to fix the bugs. It takes time to fix the bugs that are caused by bug fixes. In a game that big there should be at least 2 months of bug finding and fixes. They did not have that time.
They had Bioware's full technical support for the Odyssey game engine. It shouldn't have taken more than a month if they were competent. Yes, it takes time to fix the bugs but the bugs that popped up on their game were things that could've been caught and fixed the first day of testing.
