Clearly this franshise is an embarrassment like no other in many years. What to do with the Number one pick. We will be unlikely to trade it So do you pick up Dorsey and pay him $$$$$$$ As his last few games he has not played well. (see Dewayne Robertson) Do you pick up a "franchise QB", if Beck doesn't step up and win 1 game or lead this team to 1 TD how can you give him the reigns for 3-4 years? Do you pick up the "best player" McFadden. I know we have Ronnie but when and what type of Ronnie Brown will return? God it sucks to be a dolphins fan right now. (If Cam can't win 1 game he deserves to be fired after one season)
With a team this weak, you've gat to try to trade out. If not BPA. We need bodies on both sides of the ball.
IMO there isn't a QB worth the #1 pick. Dorsey's hype/production has died down mainly due to injury. I'd say McFadden is a very real possibility. We need to do whatever it takes to put some points on the board.
Depends on the combine. If Matt Ryan impresses, then go with him. You just can't draft a DLineman with the first pick. Let's not repeat the texan's mistake.
Personally I go McFadden #1. (at this point I pray Beck can get his head out of his @ss 5 turnovers against the Jets! Who prior had only 12 for the whole season. I don't care if he is a rookie that is inexcusable.)
IMO, the choice is clear, Darren McFadden relying on Ronnie to make it through next season healthy is like trying to eat peanut brittle on a broken tooth. He would transform our Offense ala Adrian Peterson, without the history of injuries that AP has, and that RB has. John Beck had not offensive weapons to work with today, and I do mean -0-, if we don't change that, it will happen again and again and again, take a Fred Okam at #32. Darren can score from anywhere on the field, we need that so badly right now it is not even funny, seriously, it's not funny.
No way IMO. What's he gonna do at the combine that outweighs what he has done on the field this season? You can absolutely take a Dlineman when you have the holes we do.
Resistance is futile, the pick will be Dorsey, he has potential and that is what we need rather then points and first downs...
Ya building a stout defense and ignoring the franchise QB situation has worked so well for us in the past. Unless Dorsey is the second coming of Decon Jones or something we have to pass. Have to go future over present if the talent's even close.
I'm just poking a little at Mr. Desides, Motion, he really like Dorsey even if he hasn't done a thing this season, he feels that Dorsey is obvious for us.
Good point. Lets base our franchise moves on knee jerk reactions and declare Beck a failure after 3 games and spend the #1 pick and millions of dollars on someone who is arguably the same type of QB. You spend the pick on a surefire guy. As of now that looks like Dorsey, Chris Long, or McFadden.
The fact that you now rely more on mockery of those who disagree with you rather than a solid argument says it all. Ronnie Brown has yet to be injured while doing his primary job--running the ball. But you consider him brittle? Please. Dorsey #1 overall. The offense will put points up when Ronnie comes back.
Bingo! Now are Beck's struggles a product of a toothless offense or his just not the QB for us? I think he is our QB of next season, we need more offensive firepower, players who can take a 3 yd play 97 yds for a TD are just to hard to find.
Yet at the same time you can't ignore the fact that Ronnie hasn't played a complete season in 5+ years. I'm a huge Ronnie fan but we need more reliable playmakers.
More importantly Desides, Ronnie Brown is injured constantly, how long should we rely upon him as our "guy" when he keeps watching games from the sidelines? Darren McFadden, the only player that is without a doubt, worth the #1 pick in the draft, he can score, we need scorers, seems good to me..
Thus, drafting Fred Davis. But let's not lose sight that this defense has totally collapsed. I don't care that the defense is playing better down the stretch: it still needs to be gutted. I can count on one hand the players I'd keep right now. The offense needs better talent at the skill positions, and Beck needs to keep growing.
At the number one overall, I would say do our damndest to trade it, but if we can't, we have to pick the BPA coming out of the combines. Right now, I would say McFadden, but that may change after the combines. It also may depend on who our head coach/GM is at the time. I am not anti-Beck, but if we wind up with a new HC/GM, he may want his own franchise QB.
Yeah, alright, let's just get into shootouts every Sunday. We'll put up points after a 7 minute drive, the other team will come out and put up points in 3 minutes because the defense won't hold a lead. It'll be like Dan Marino's career all over again! This offense puts up points just fine when its playmaker, Ronnie Brown, is present. Darren McFadden should be involved with the Dolphins only as a hostage: we should use him as leverage in a trade to acquire more draft picks. That's it. If McFadden puts on a Dolphins uniform, I give up on this team.
Hey, I said if the talent is even close you have to go with the QB. I can just see Dorsey being the next Steve entman or Big Diddy Wilkinson for us. Be sure to understand that I am not comparing them, just stating that would be out luck in taking a Dlineman that early. We need something more than a "decent" player. We need a face for the franchise Also, Beck was mediocre in preseason, and completely awful these past 3 games. He has lead the offense to a whopping 6 points in those 3 games. Now a lot of that is poopr play calling, but Beck has shown very little evidence that he will be anything more than a Jay Fiedler without teh winning percentage. I wish it was different, I really do, but he just doesn't have it. Luckily we should have a new GM and hopefully a new coach. They will evaluate the mistake and hopefully rectify it
Rick, I don't think I've ever agreed with your opinions about anything, this time though, I have to agree. It's not that Darren McF is the 100% fit that will make pro bowls and lead us to the playoffs, I am saying that he is the one player in this draft that is most capable of doing that with us.
I disagree on Beck. Clearly he struggled and had a pretty rough game out there today but I don't think he was very bad at all his first two games. He showed alot of growth between games with his accuracy and has some good pocket presence for a rookie. The mistakes will happen, obviously, its how he learns from them thats important. I definitely see him as our QB next season.
More importantly than who we take #1 overall is what we do with the current players on our roster in terms of their worth to us and other teams. I'm thinking specifically of trading Jason Taylor. It has to be done. I believe the Denver Broncos would trade their 2nd and 3rd round picks for him. The fact that they drafted Jarvis Moss is meaningless: if they were comfortable with just Moss, why did they acquire Simeon Rice off waivers? I believe Jim Bates will convince Shanahan to pull the trigger if such a trade were proposed. So we then wind up Denver's 2nd and 3rd round picks, giving us nine picks overall, five on the first day. After this, priorities have to be determined: do we want to trade up to acquire talent out of the first round, or stay pat and try the strength in numbers game? And furthermore, which positions are prioritized on draft day? I think it can go something like this: #1: DT Glenn Dorsey #32: TE Fred Davis #49 (Denver): OT Chris Williams #55 (San Diego): WR DJ Hall #65: CB Chevis Jackson #82 (Denver): SS Jamar Adams I'd like to come away somehow with MLB Dan Connor, but I doubt that'll be possible. So I think the above is somewhat likely--more likely than drafting Darren McFadden, anyway.
Ronnie won't be ready to play until after the season starts, it has been said several times that it takes a solid year to come back from a torn ACL, that will put his return sometime into the season. Do you really want to start next season with Chatman as our featured back? How do you think that will turn out for us? DT's do not lead teams to the Super Bowl or even the playoffs Desides, there is a reason for that mainly because they cannot take hand offs, or throw passes or catch passes or even block blitzers....
As do I, hopefully Boomer will give us a great review of Beck's performance either good or bad. He also has had no running game to bail him out by taking the pressure off of him.
i really dont see why people want McFadden, he is NOTHING compared to Adrian Peterson. id pick either Dorsey or Long if we stay at the #1. if u really wanna beef up our DL, u can pick Frank Okam in the late 1st round too by trading away two of our 2nd rounders. ive been hearing rumors that Dorsey has back problems, and for a DT...thats a bad thing. are these rumors real or fake?
Dorsey has had problems with his knee since the cut block against Auburn. He has also had problems with a tailbone bruise. He should be 100% healthy by the draft.
I agree. You need to draft playmakers with a #1 pick. Big guys like that can be had later on. Unless your 100% sure they are can't miss and I am not sold on Dorsey. I absolutely do NOT see Dorsey becomming John Randle #2....hence I would not take him #1 overall.
It's going to take at least two more years to get this team into playoff form, assuming the 2008 and 2009 drafts are big successes.
hmm, this guy speaks the truth. big beefy DTs CAN be had later on...but if ur gonna select a playmaker with the #1 pick....dont let it be McFadden. Let Ronnie/Jesse/Ricky handle our backfield. ud need to take a WR with the 1st pick and well....DeSean Jackson isnt worth the #1 pick, hes pretty much the only receiver in the first round if u ask me. but we DO need a receiver, i think Martin and Peelle are just fine at TE. u all see that Lorenzo Booker actually played today. and played well! as of now its Ginn/MBooker/LBooker. technically u only need 2 reeeeeally good receivers. so with that...whos left? do u take Jake Long? sure, he can replace an aging Shelton.
tHE DRAFT IS LOADED WITH OFFENSIVE TACKLES THAT CAN BE HAD IN THE 2ND RD. Otah in the 2nd would be better value than Long in the 1st
Now thats probably the worst idea I've seen all day. You want to take a RT with the #1 pick??? Well if there are NFL fans that aren't laughing at us yet they sure would after that pick. We relied on Ronnie, Ricky, and Jesse this season, how's that working out for us? We need to take the BPA period.
