ESPN - Sapp calls Dolphins offense 'disrespectful' - AFC East

I like Sapp but some of the things he says leaves me scratching my head. Phil Simms' comment was the one that I thought was a result of him not watching any games outside of the first game against New York. I know Miami doesn't have great playmakers on the outside but to say without the Wildcat Miami would still be sruggling to produce points is something I don't agree with. I hope Miami continues to run the Wildcat and be successful when doing so to help win games and piss of the people in the media who think it won't work long in the NFL.

Its a good thing sportscasters opinions dont win games. They usually dont do their homework and are clueless about the inner workings of teams they report about

Sapp calling the Dolphins offense disrespectful is idiotic. Disrespectful is when you get in an opposing coaches face you outweigh by 200 lbs after a game and threaten to kick his ***.:pity:

Well if no one likes it and every knows we're doing it then why dont they stop it!? I agree, what a bunch of whiney...

How come every other team can create a formation to confuse the opposition without complaints and we can't - am I missing something this side of the pond or does everyone root against us? have I missed something about Wayne H and really he was found downloading child porn & everyone has to hate the phins?!!?! - (probably a bad analogy but all this bad stuff about the wildcat formation is begining to wind me up now!) until everyone figures it out we should just keep doing it.

The game is about team work and winning... 2 things Sapp has not had a lots of experience with the past few years.

He is just displaying poor sportsmanship by being disrespectful towards a team that was in shambles last year getting turned around by great coaching and renewed spirit... something else he never really experienced.

Warren Sapp needs to man up.

Besides, the Chargers were winners with little more then LT, Antonio Gates and CardBoard cutouts for Wr, we can at least manage that level of a passing attack with Fasano and Ronnie, and I'd call Eric Parker vs Greg Camarillo a push...

I really want to be able to watch the new Inside the NFL on Showtime, but Sapp is such a loud mouth jerk that I can only get 10 minutes in before I change the channel. Hopefully his T.V. career is short.

Neither one of them really made any sense.. This is football.. No kidding we have no playmakers wide Sims and thats why we use this package. So teams with no playmakers at the WR position are not or shouldnt be allowed to try new things.. Inside the NFL is kind of a joke now anyways. Sapp thinks its disrespectful because defenses can't really stop it and he is a defensive guy. Not to mention Sapp is one of the WORST analysts in NFL history. I like him, but just listening to him talk, when he gets a chance to, makes my ears cringe.

I just think everyone is mad at the orginization for winning 2 out of 4 thus far. Before the season started they were picked to win 5 max. Miami is well on there way to winning more than 5 games and all the anyalists are pissed because Miami is making them look bad. Yet another win for our beloved Dolphins:hi5:

What's ironic is here you have a modern day prima donna, a product of all the glitz and glamour the NFL has become, dissing one of the oldest offensive formations in the history of football. Warren Sapp, meet Mr. Homework!

Well to be fair, Sapp was a champion in college and was a champion with the Buccaneers, and was always considered to be a great teammate, so I think your statement is a bit unfair.

That said, his statements about the Wildcat offense are painfully stupid.

Hurts to say it because I like the guy, but you gotta call a spade a spade.

Sapp of all people should understand the use of the Wildcat formation...it's a way to utilize our most talented offensive players..the OL and the RBs in a better way. It's used to somewhat open up the D a little so that the short passing game will work better...Sapp was put in a D that he 'revolutionized' the use of the interior DL...he should understand that he and his teammates in Tampa were best utilized in the Tampa 2 scheme and he was an intregral reason for that and as a result, teams run games were shut down. That was the strength of their team, so they utilized those guys to their maximum...the Wildcat does the same for us. It's disrespectful ?? I'm sure that CP felt disrespected when RB was crossing the goal line or getting a first down to keep drives alive...pfffftt....

While many many athletes-turned-broadcasters have done quite well, he is one of those that just don't put as much effort into their new craft as they did their football craft...JMHO...

While I agree with your general premise, the truth is that our wide receivers played very well last Sunday and were a big part of the reason why we won. We only ran the wildcat 10-11 times. The rest of our offensive success came on regular running plays and passing plays. And, heck, our WRs were responsible for a key early touchdown (Camarillo) and a key third down conversion (Ginn).

    Hey Hugo!
I understand that Sapp has been on championship teams, but that was several years ago. I did qualify my opinion with 'the past few years'.
Since that super bowl win, he has moved on to perennially losing teams, and has been dogged on by team mates for being fat, lazy, and not finishing plays.

Wow I think it is safe to say if Sapp was coaching and he stuffed the gaps it would be a dream come true for Sparano. Put 11 in the box idiot and watch what happens. I think I just lost 10 % of my brain cells reading his rant. Power "O" is right. When you have a line coming together like we do, a lack of receivers, an accurate dink and dunk Qb, add that to 2 top tier RB's? What the hell would you expect?

They know what we are going to do. We will see if they can stop it. Chargers had a week to prepare and with their talent and coaching staff came up short. Next.........

(Side Note) Anyone remember Bess burning Jammer on that sideline route. It was beautiful watching him turn Jammer around and have Jammer chasing him down the field. My other favorite play Ronnie destroying "Cro" on the stretch to the left.

Ok Warren Sapp is saying that we would be struggling with out the wild cat offense ok big deal it is a part of the game we can use we are no breaking and rules. What was the point of saying that. We have the Wild Cat Formation so why not use it Warren Sapp if it is there and it is working use it. You dont see the Colts benching Payton Manning because they are winning with him. You dont see the Giants puting Eli Manning on the bench because he helps them win. Go focus obn Dancing Warren Sapp and stop worring about the Miami Dolphins.

I find it downright laughable that Warren freakin Sapp has taken up the cause of defending the integrity of the game...HA! That's like Chad Johnson calling out a player for being a poor teammate, or Pacman Jones calling someone a troublemaker. How about when your fat behind did your fat boy twirl on the Falcons logo after a TD? How about when you laid a cheap shot on the O-Lineman from the Pack? SHUT YOUR BIG FAT MOUTH OR STUFF IT WITH A CHEESEBURGER!

Isn't this the same guy who blindsided Chad Clifton when the play was on the opposite side of the field with no chance of Clifton stopping it? Isn't he the guy that, after Clifton was taken out on a stretcher and Sapp was called out by Sherman, reacted by shouting "put a jersey on! Put a ****ing jersey on!"?

My statement to Sapp would be just that. Put a jersey on if it is so disrepectful. Just because you are irrelevant to the football world now and are desperately trying to hold on to your fame by going to second rate reality shows like Dancing with the Stars, doesn't mean you have to lash out at those who are achieving in the here and now.

So put a jersey on Sapp, or shut the **** up.

I don't get Showtime, so all I have to go on is Graham's article.
This sports talk trend of "unscripted, spontaneous, off-the-cuff chatter" can be really entertaining with the right people. But man, it can also result in some really stupid comments.
To be honest, it's no more "disrespectful" than lining up with an empty backfield. Is that considered "disrespectful"? After all that's saying to the defense we're going to pass and you can't stop us. Or how about 1 down lineman on the defense?.....
I'm sure there are some good D schemes that could shut our wildcat down, but if they don't know ahead of time then they can't run their substitutions. And they don't know what we're doing until we're lining up.
I do agree however, that it's not going to change the NFL. One reason it works so well for us is because of our players and the kind of people they are. We don't have the kind of WR - a TO or Moss or even Marvin Harrison who is going to complain about "needing the football". Or the kind of QB who would be offended by the ball being taken out of his hands.

I agree w/ Sapp in that it is disrespectful, but my point is- SO WHAT!?! As others (most recently late again) have stated, it's no different than going empty backfield against someone. It's telling the defense, "Look, we're going to run on you, and there's nothing you can do to stop us." That is absolutely disrespectful; it's also absolutely football.

News flash Warren- this team is being built to be 'disrespectful', both to defenses and offenses. We are going to do what we do, and we're going to stomp you into the ground doing it. Any questions??

This was all said on ShoTime's inside the nfl. the show sucks. its sapp, collingsworth and sims all arguing and talking over each other. sapp said it was direspectful because it takes the Offense's best player, the QB, out of the equation. it was just a crapy choice of word. i dont think he was trying to bash the Phins. sapp aid, stack the box, get a body in each gap, and shut it down. tell that to norv turner warren...its easier said than done.

collingsworth had our back and said in a nut shell, keep running it until someone stops it. the super-chargers knew it was coming, and couldnt.

sims went on to say, the wildcat only accounted for 40 or 50 yards, and it was good defense that helps contribute to our winning more that the "gimmick". (he failed to mention how effective the wildcat was for converting into first downs and in the goal line)

they were all over the place both arguing and with their opinions.

The formation is 101 years old. There has been plenty of time for it to be figured out.

I wish one of our resident sleuths would dig up one of the first press conferences of Tuna describing what his new philosophy toward defenses was going to be. He essentially told us he was going to take advantage of the evolution of size and weight of the current NFL defenses.

I agree with him that it is 'disrespectful', but not, I think, in the way he stated. Is it not disrespectful to tell someone that you are going to hit them in the mouth and there's nothing they can do about it??:shifty:
