First off I'm not saying I support the pick, I'm still torn on gholston, c.long, dorsey or trading down. But Parcells has said enough for me to make an assumption, if we keep the #1 overall pick we will select Chris Long and this is why:
    - Chris Long is a scheme fit, he is ideal for pass rushing LB.
    - Parcells looovvvesss former players sons.....loves.
    - He has a history of picking players from the virginia colleges (tech, virginia, west)
    - He has an amazing motor and work ethic.
    - He loves the game of football.

Take what you will from these points and give me an argument why you agree or disagree.

I would think Chris Long would be more suited as a 3-4 end and Ghoulston would be ideal for a pass rushing LB.

Edit: Not that I'm against drafting.

Long would more likely be our 3-4 DE, but anyways, I think you left out a few points:

    1. Al Groh said Long is the 2nd best player he's ever coached at any level in his 40 year career, right behind Lawrence Taylor. That includes quite a few guys from his stints with the Giants, Patriots, Jets, Wake Forest, Virginia and several other spots along the way. He had Long's jersey retired and Long's still playing. That kind of backing by Groh won't go unnoticed. Groh worked under Parcells for more than a decade, they remain very close and Groh's endorsement was a driver behind Dallas choosing Canty in the 4th round... which has worked out rather well.

    2. Parcells and Ireland like high football IQ guys and you can't get much better than being raised by a Hall of Fame DE and coached by one of Parcells closest friends. This kid has lived around pro football his entire life and it shows in how quickly he can see where the play is going and where he needs to get to in order to make the play.

    3. Long is the heart and soul of Virginia football, he brings truck loads of leadership.

Long doesn't have the athletic upside Gholston does, but I don't think there's a non-injury related chance of him not being a solid 10+ year, 100 sacks pro.

Long, Gholston and Ryan are all possibilities. It all depends on who Parcells falls in love with. Parcells loves defense but he realizes from his Giants days that you have nothing until you ave a QB. Ryan will be the pick if he has no faith in Beck. If he is willing to give Beck another year to prove himself, Long or Gholston are neck and neck. I think if Gholston and Long are neck and neck, then Gholston gets the pick but right now I have Long being the better player so he would go

Why do you guys keep mentioning Parcells? Don't you mean Ireland? :D It'll be interesting to hear the backstories during the draft, of who wanted whom and who's decision reigned supreme

If you don't believe Parcells will have say in this you're crazy.

All excellent points. Although he will stay at DE. I think the key here is Al Groh. His assesment of Long will go a VERY long way with Parcells/Ireland. Also, there are very little unknowns with Long. No injury history, non-stop motor, and very productive. Doesn't hurt that he is the son of a hall of famer either.

Long would be a rock solid pick for this organization. He could be a cornerstone defensive player for us. He's currently my #1 wish followed by Gholston and Dorsey.
