Sports Review Magazine - The Miami Dolphins Are Legit

Hi all, I am excited to be a member, I did not know there was a second Phins site, I wont mention the first, but I will just say I got banned after calling out numerous people who said we had no chance and ridiculed me after I put together a detailed post outlining why we would win...Anyway, above is a link to an article I wrote on the site I write for. I have gotten good feeback from non-phin fans, but I would like to know how my brethren perceive it.

Look forward to discussing the greatest topic in the world...Miami Dolphins football! Holla!

First off, welcome brother. Your not the only obsessive fin fan around these parts! :knucks:

Second, you can say finheaven if thats the site youre referring to. Nothing will happen to you...except of course flashbacks.

Regarding the article, nicely done. In other posts Ive cited our ability to play smart and intelligent and how that has compensated for some of the shortcomings we may have talent wise. The key is we haven't lost our aggression in doing so. Some teams don't get penalties because they play soft and in past years I might have argued that we could have fallen under that category. This team imposes its will on the opposition every chance it gets.

It also helps that we are finally getting the Joey Porter we thought we were getting. J-Peezy is just tearing it up right now. The way hes playing, I dont see how we can cut him next year when many thought for sure in the offseason this season would be his last in Miami. Hes playing some awesome football right now.

Chad's ability to work the middle of the field and take advantage of the safeties has always been a strength. Hes one of the best in terms of his approach as hes both studious and a good teacher. He understands his role and plays it to a tee. If he had a stronger arm you could easily argue he would be the ideal qb but that will always be what holds him back. However, as guys like Rich Gannon have showed, it may not hold him back from winning big games. Pennington is one of the few QB's who has won playoff games on the road. His signing is one I openly wanted even before it happened as the stability he will give us there is invaluable to the organization and to Chad Henne and John Beck.

I have felt that the ability of Ronnie Brown has been overlooked at times. I also felt that the only reason he didnt start those first few games is because the staff wanted to test the knee out and see how he would respond. His health is critical for the longterm success of this franchise.

I would also argue that the offseason approach is another significant factor in the way this team is playing right now. The difference is startling from the past few seasons to this. Even under saban it wasnt quite this intensive as it has been under the Tuna/Ireland/Sparano. Compared to last year, its a joke. Its all part of the culture of building a winner. As Parcells has said, football should be one of your top 3 priorities and the way he makes players work at it, it better be or anyone who doesnt love it will be miserable.

Welcome to the best phin's site on the net bro! glad to have you here!!!

Nice article, I enjoyed reading it. Can't really disagree with your points in the article. Playing smart, and playing disciplined is one of the biggest things we have going for us right now. 4 games down, and what, only 2 turnovers? Only 1 penalty last game? Those are two of the main things that lost us so many games last year.

Theres no doubt, that we completely re-tooled both of our lines this offseason. The new O-line has worked out extremely well for us. Jake is holding is own out there, sure he's been beaten a few times, but he's a rookie... its bound to happen. The d-line... jeez... what more can you say about Merling and Langford...

I sure hope youre right there... Seeing all those empty seats sure does suck! Id fill one myself if I wasnt way up here in Canada. I think its going to take more than one more win to bring in a full house though...

Great article though, enjoyed the read! look forward to seeing more from you! again, welcome to the site!

Good read with a lot of good points, very well done.

I think we will find the defining moment for this teams resurgence is the moment Wayne talked Bill Parcells into taking charge.

As far as the other site being more active, I'll take quality over quantity any day.
Its kind of like someone asking you what you would rather have 1000 pennies or a hundred dollars.
The Phins.com has it all, quality, a beautiful web site, great people in charge and good conversation.

Good article. I agree with all your points and share the same feelings about the team's potential as you. I am just as optimistic about reaching the playoffs because I think this team has the talent and they know what it takes.

A lot of credit goes to Sparano too. This coach is flexible enough to toy with schemes. He knows how to manage a game. He has gotten the players on his side and we are seeing a desperate team fight tooth and nail for one another. A lot of passion on that team.

Wow Pete, nice work, and welcome. I am glad you found us and came in for a visit. You will find some very sharp folks here, guys who are better than the omars and armandos imo. You are obviously a sharp fan yourself and you speak well, I hope you stick around. I liked and agreed with your talking points, I though you did a good job of making your case. Your closing comments had me smiling, the wild card head to head competition cracked me up.

you have that one right brother.. I told folks a couple weeks ago to look around.. that WE are the hardcore Miami Dolphin fans and that we would be seeing some new fans telling us they are old fans. Be proud of who you see, and that you are among them. As a fan "I" saw it too, told my son, this is the pivotal time, now that we whipped the Pats, how we play the Bolts will tell the true story..

to the doubters that things have changed go to Aquavision and watch the 10/7 Fins TV.. during the last possession our ROOKIE left tackle was in the huddle pounding on his chest and saying "run it behind me, lets go!" Vonnie tells the story.. they say that when things get tough, winners and champions want the ball, the o-line wanted the ball and the team delivered. No miracles, just tough, hard nosed, old school football..

the locker room interviews on Aquavision are the best I have ever listened to.. the spirit is different, there is personal responsibility and DESIRE. Listen to them talk about the "victory" formation.. You have it right Pete, we have turned a corner and it has this ol Dolphin fan pretty dang happy. Stick around!

zero.. Finheavens traffic is in the mains, we have more traffic in Club. Almost 100% of the VIP and Premium subscriptions followed us over and truly is the cream of the crop. Their subsciption forums are nothing like they used to be, discussion in our mains is better.

I love the mention of Rich Gannon as an example here; the Raiders that made it to the Super Bowl with Gannon had a very similarly structured offense (at least the part where Penny is the QB lol). Gannon and Penny have similarities in that while they may not be the most talented, they are students of the game, and very efficient from 15 yards in...

Ronnie Brown is the real deal...he has incredible patience, strength, and burst. As far as talent he is the best RB to don the Aqua and Orange that I have ever seen (though I hear Mercury was great if not for the drugs) That includes a prime Ricky IMO. And the last statement you made about RB couldn't be more true, and I would toss Long in that equation too. If Long can be a Pro Bowl LT, and pass protect effectively, there is a great foundation for long-term sustained success.

And your last point, right on! I mean as a fan I felt very good about the offseason. IMO we got a QB for the now, a potential stud QB of the future, a top LT, a steal of a DE in Merling, etc...Wilford may have been a slight mistake, but hardly unforgivable. The point is, the old veterans like Porter and Holliday, they need to see the desire to win...they know how the league works. Players know when the FO sucks, and it reflects on the field. The biggest thing that happened over the past couple of months is a renewal of faith and a reunification of drive and vision between our players and the coaches and the FO..

Our previous slight surge in success was a product of pure X's and O's (Nick Satan) but the faith and unified vision was never there, most of the guys hated the coach, and that doesn't work. Ladies and gentlmen these ARE the Miami Dolphins we have been waiting for...whether we make the playoffs or not, we are going to get what we haven't had for YEARS...meaningful games in Nov and Dec!

good read... our schedule is definitely in our favor to have a playoff run... the AFC east has an easy schedule this year with the AFC and NFC west games... Buffalo has already seen that advantage by getting to play the Raiders, the Rams, and the banged up Seahawks early... unfortunately we wont get the same Seahawks team later on, but i still think its a winnable game for us...

San Fran, St. Louis, Oakland and KC you would hope are 4 more wins on the schedule... that already puts us at 6... and with the parity this year in the AFC, 8 wins might sneak into the playoffs depending on the tie breakers... i think we'll be in the running, as will a lot of teams, until late into the season...

Good point, and the great thing is that we just earned the head-to-head over the Chargers! Now if we can beat NE a second time and finish with a better division record than the Jets, I think we'll sneak in.

Nice read, thanks Pete.. and welcome to the real Phins site...

At any rate, your optimism abounds as it should with the way we've played the last two weeks...I have a few reasons to not totally buy into the playoff agenda though...I can see all your points and have the same aqua and orange glasses on myself, but...

    1) We beat a Brady-less Pats team, albeit a sound defeat. They were shell-shocked from the start with not having their boy at QB, and we compounded that into a shellacking...but the fact is that this team is not the same without Brady...they aren't a poor team and they still have BB coaching them. Too many times in the last few years, we've said this is the beginning of the end of their dynasty only to be fooled by BB and co. again...They'll rebound (see SF). But the fact is that we hit them at their psychologically lowest point...

    2) Arizona - The Cards killed us in every way possible. Offensively, defensively and STs. True this is not your fathers Cards, but the beating we took showed just how far we have to go...

    3) Ups and Downs - This is a young team and will have ups and downs as evidenced by the first 5 weeks of the season... Avoiding those ups and downs is next to impossible. The fact can't be denied that we have improved, but the fact can't also be denied that we still aren't there yet and need more talent which won't be added until the next FA and draft...

    4) Talent - We have high caliber players with Brown and Long...after that, we have decent talent with Carey, Smiley, Fasano, Satele (but he was terrible the first two games), Penny, Porter, Crowder, Holliday, W. Allen, and Bell. Beyond that, we have questions...Ginn - will he step up and become a #1 or even a #2 WR ? Camerillo is a great 3rd WR, but the longer we leave him as our #2, the more he'll be exposed. Who is our RG...Thomas is out, Ndukwe has played well so far but is he good enough to take us tot he next level. Merling and Langford - promising but still rookies. Roth - Finally had a great game against the Bolts, but is that a fluke or is he real ? Is Bess really the answer at KR/PR ?? Not so far. Hill has returned and seems to energize the secondary after a disatrous first two weeks...but they are paper thin after that. Where does J. Allen fit or does he ?? I can go on, but really nearly everyone else has questions...can RW stay clean, etc...The problem is that our chance to restock is over until after the season. Now, Ginn, J. Allen, RW, Roth, Merling, Langford, Ndukwe, etc can all show what they showed against the Bolts the rest of the year or...they can show what they showed against the Cards...but we can't restock until after this season. 7-8 yrs of bad drafting and FA moves can't be erased in one season.

    5) Rookie Coach - Sparano is also a rookie as a HC. He'll make some mistakes (like what is with Bess returning KOs ??). He's got the advantage of having his mentor, the Tuna close at hand and that'll help. But Bill can't help with the little things like clock managment and in game adjustments until after he's made the mistake...I'm not worried about him and his decision making and coaching prowess, but it's a new thing for him to experience as well.

Now that I've painted this bleak picture, let me say that I am extremely psyched about where this team is now and where we're headed. They are ahead of where I thought they'd be at this point. And playoffs are possible, but a lot of things have to fall into place...I believe that it was Shula who once quipped that there are 4 elements to championship football...Offense, Defense, STs and Luck...

    Here's to all four...
