No one was more critical of Chris Chambers than I was. He was like crack cocaine to me: his rookie year was amazing, and all the subsequent years, I was looking for that same high, only to be disappointed. Yes, he went to the Pro Bowl a few years back cause he played well in 6 straight games, but let's all be honest, he was a failure as a Dolphin. Too many damn dropped balls! However, he was a class act and a good guy. I always believed that you don't deserve praise for doing the right thing...unless you are a WR in the NFL. Chambers never complained about our crappy QBs or that he wasn't getting the ball enough. Chambers was a good dude. So tomorrow, when I see my first home Dolphin game in 3 years, I will cheer for Chris Chambers if he is introduced in the pre-game. I'm not gonna boo the guy and I will be bummed if my fellow Dolphin fans boo him. However, I can't wait to see him go over the middle, drop the ball, and then look to the refs for a non-existant pass interference call!
Becoming the 5th leading receiver in Dolphin history is a failure?? I always liked CC and I still cheer for him in SD.. I just hope he doesnt burn us Sunday...
I for one will be giving him a thank you and thumbs up for his time here.Just a class act all around.I do disagree about the failure label you put on him, bro. All that seen him play every week, with 9 different Quarterbacks,3 different HC's and numerous OC's saw him go out there and give it his all without once complaining about it. That you don't see in football these days anymore.CC was a true competitor, and is a very good athlete.I might blame him few some easy drops here and there, but this is just a sidenote to what he brought us as fans.Great fun watching you,CC
But that's not my point. My point is: although I'm glad he's gone, I'm gonna stand and cheer for the guy.
I liked the guy, but yes, he was frustrating to watch sometimes. A crazy one handed catch followed by a spot on pass that just bounches outta your hands? Inconsistent, but still a stand up guy.
Im happy to hear this and i would do the same as well. However, to call him a failure as a dolphin is way off in my opinion. He did mess up sometimes but he made many plays for 7 years to make up for it. Chris Chambers is a very good football player. Just my opinion though.
Personally, I don't understand the criticism that Chambers received when he was a Dolphin. While he did drop some passes, I don't think he deserved nearly the amount of criticism he got. If he were a Dolphin today, we'd be a better football team right now, and I have no doubt about that whatsoever. Not to mince words... if you wished Chambers gone... you were dead wrong then, and you're dead wrong now. If I was at the game... damn straight I'd cheer for him. I'd also yell at Ireland and Parcells to call a 'take-back' and give the Chargers back a second-rounder to get his butt back where he belongs... in Aqua and Orange. This new regime would have brought out the best in #84. It sucks that we're never going to see it.
His misfortune was playing for the Dolphins during their worst streak of fortune. He was always very loyal to the team and he deserves our accolades. Having said that I dont think he is an elite receiver. But I hope he gets a big hand
He was habitually in the bottom 10 of pass completion percentage including this year. Bottom 10 players in catch percentage (minimum 4 looks per game): Ashley Lelie (28%, 5/18), Justin McCareins (33%, 9/27), Michael Jenkins (33%, 6/18), Courtney Taylor (33%, 5/15), Braylon Edwards (37%, 11/30), Chris Chambers (40%, 8/20), L.J. Smith (40%, 6/15), Mark Clayton (42%, 5/12), Jerramy Stevens (42%, 5/12), and Roy Williams (44%, 8/18).
Again... this looks bad on paper, but I don't think you could have attributed a lot of that to Chris when he was a Phin. How many QBs did he play with? Name one good one. How many different offenses did the guy have to learn? How much help did he get from the other WRs? He was, and still is, a possession guy... so, where was the speed to complement him on the other side? Now, take a look at those stats above. How many of those 12 incompletions this year did he drop? How many were bad throws? How many were good plays by the defender? How many of those plays was he double-covered? How many of those did he run a bad route, and not get separation? How many were knocked down at the LOS? How many of those completions were the fault of Chris Chambers? This argument has gone on for two years. I've been around for all of it. I still think Chambers gets far too much criticism... especially when stats like this are posted. They don't tell the whole story, bro. I watched him play. I like Chris Chambers. He's never going to be Marvin Harrison... but he's head-and-shoulders better than any other WR on this team, and that's a fact. The guy already has more TD receptions this year than we have thrown as an entire team. He also has averaged almost 25 yards per catch. If you're going to pull out stats... pull 'em all out.
True.Stats dont tell the whole story and there is no doubt he would be the No 1 receiver here .Just saying He was enjoyable to watch making those circus catches
he was my favorite Dolphin for a long time and I always supported him, even in his darkest moments, but he just got so frustrating to watch towards the end of his Dolphins career because you know he was better than the numbers he was putting up. When he initially got to San Diego I was kind of rooting against him, because I didn't want him to prove everyone wrong, but then I came to realize that he deserves much better than that because he was always a classy guy. I'm now thrilled he is playing at a high level and wish him nothing but the best from here on out. Not to mention, the pick we got in exchange for him yielded us Chad Henne, who looks very promising as our QB of the future.
He kind of was of a disappointment because at times he could toy with some very good CB's but all in all we got him for a 2rd pick and got that pick back 6 years later. He's kind of like the super hot girlfriend that only " put's out " a few times a week.
I am right there with you, brother. I'll be wearing my #84 authentic aqua jersey as well. Say what you guys want about Chris being inconsistent and not living up to his expectations every year, but he always left his best game on the football game, and was a complete class act off the field. He also helped the community as much as he could while he was a South Florida resident. He's a guy that I'll always root for.
I disagree with you...before the game, after the game, I'll stand and cheer for CC...he's a decent guy and despite his shortcomings (and our QB shortcomings while he was here), he made some plays for us... But.....but.....during the game, I would sooner cheer for a NY Jet than the opposition...No way I cheer for him during the game....I hope he stumbles, falls, drops every pass directed his way and/or gets benched...Now, I will stop short of hoping he gets hurt...that's just not cool no matter who the opposing player is...but I'd never root for him against us...
I would never cheer for anyone against us. CC made me bonkers with his dropped passes over and over and over and over. Some of you may be romanticizing him now but REALLY stop and think about what potential he DIDN'T realize. He could have been Jerry Rice great but he just couldn't remain focused. Of course, he did have 12 different QB's in his Dolphins tenure........
Tomorrow I will stand and hope one of our defensive players knock him into next week. Like him while he was here, now he is the enemy!
Chambers was a headache when he was here, he teased us with his talent by making a spectacular catch on one play and then dropping the next two. But I think Miami fans should give the guy a hand for all the hard work and loyalty throughout his career.
100% true. I remember those 'drops' stats posted. I think it was from 2007 or 2006. Man, we went round-and-round about it on the other site. Chambers had about 7 drops that year... Harrison had 6... Owens had about 17... Steve Smith had 11 or 12. I guess that really doesn't matter, though. People are going to see things the way they want to see them. As long as he's not a Jet, Bill, or Patriot... I'll always be a Chris Chambers fan.
I, too, was a Chambers fan. All-around good guy but inconsistent receiver. I would most definitely cheer for him at the beginning and end of today's game but never during it.
Sorry I was a Chambers fan as well, but I refuse to cheer for him while he is catching passes against my team. Any other team fine. To each his own though.
I always thought Chambers was a good guy - but that has nothing to do with football. He would make these frisbee dog flying backward type catches then have cast iron hands on those he should have caught. I don't want to hear the bulls**t about different quarterbacks & coordinators he had a ton of balls thrown his way every season and way too many of them hit the ground. Anytime your hands touch that ball no matter who threw it there should be a catch 9 out of 10 times. And he simply did not do that.
