Taming the 'Wildcat': Bolts prep for Miami

Actually Arkansas doesn't run it at all anymore, its now the "Wild Rebel" at Ole Miss.

 

Remember a couple years ago when the Chargers went for it on 4th down in their own zone...twice!?

This team, for whatever reason, continues to disrespect us. Could it be because they havent beaten us in 15 years?

 

I don't think we should use it unless a prime opportunity presents itself. IE late in game if its close and they haven't seen it all day. It needs to have the suprise element to it. Any team that see's it should call a timeout to give assignments so the suprise element is taken away.

I think thats why the Pats got burned over and over, their d wasn't set very well or did they know their assignments. A simple clarifying time out could have prevented that. I believe the failure of the pats to stop it 4 times was all on the coaching staff. Any time a d is unsure of their individual assignments its gonna be trouble for them. A time out in my opinion would have corrected that and given them more chance of stopping it.

So like i said if its close and we haven't used it all game, have a good long drive going, have them on their heels, then bam use in the red zone while they are already flustered, then it could work.

2: Lets see, we spank he living tar out of the Patsies with it...something that San Diego and their very talented team hasnt been able to do in.....oh forever. Even though it is very well documented that the make up of their team is primarily for beating the Patriots.

First of all its not gimmicky or trickery in any way, its really simple football executed beautifully....I HATE THE CHARGERS more then any team in the nfl right now, their cocky primadonnas, i hope we kick their ***.

 

I don't think it's just us that they don't respect.
I swear the Chargers seem to have developed some sort of permanent "the better team didn't win that day" attitude. The past 2 years in a row they've been knocked out of the play offs by NE and both times they had more excuses than Carter has liver pills.
I think they've started to believe all the media hype that's been written about them and some of the players. I hope they come out looking past us, and allow us to administer a nice dose of humility.
For the record, I don't think we'll see much of the wild cat this week. Now that everyone is talking about it, it makes more sense to go in a different direction for now. The more teams prepare for the wild cat the less time they have to prepare for something else.

Also, I hate this prevailing belief in the football world that the only reason we beat the Patriots was because of our "gimmick" offense. I don't know what people were watching, but what I saw was a Dolphins offensive AND defensive line that whipped their opposition, physically.

We could have run any type of offense and been successful two Sunday's ago because we dominated in the trenches.

In regards to this article, I absolutely hate the Chargers smug attitude. I hate LT and Rivers and Gates because they're so arrogant and really believe they're privleged, yet they've never won anything in this league. They're full of themselves like the Yankees (no offense Yankee fans) without the 26 titles.

 

Well, you are very accurate. In fact, the Wildcat was used what....maybe 10-15% of our total offensive plays (Have seen 4 or 5 guesses, no real figures yet).

From what I take, we whipped them regardless of what formation we used. Amano amano. Ours against thiers. They can paint it any color they want, but our guys just flat outplayed theirs.

This is true stuff too and even watching to video of the players preparing for this week they seemed to have a smirk as if they were just laughing at the Dolphins in the meeting room...

I can see them running the LT version of the Wildcat against us as well as trying to go deep on us like Arizona did. I'm not feeling that they are seeing us as equal competition...

 

The fact teams are still preparing for the play is a huge advantage for us. It keeps them off balance before the game even starts.

 

ur right LA, and iam on the record saying that LT is the leader of them primadonnas. he comes across in interviews like a humble cat, but i have seen cracks and weaknesses in his humility. Hes changed, he talks a good game, he also runs out of bounds every chance he gets, ive never seen a running back shy away from contact more then this dude, it did'nt use to be like that and now it is.

ya'll see that fumble last week at oakland in the endzone, he turned away from the handoff because the defender was about to lay his *** out, resulted in a turnover, he thinks he can protect his body inan NFL football game for some reason....primadonna

 

I seriously doubt they are either. Behind closed doors they are probably laughing... But in a sense that is good for us because that means they are taking us lightly, like the Ratriots did. When teams take their opponents lightly, they get lit up.

 

well. no one can say they weren't warned. New England didn't know what was happening until it was too late. The Chargers are gonna find themselves in the middle of a dogfight, and by the time the realize that this isn't their bye week, it will be too late.

 

we are probably just as prepared for that as they are the wildcat.. I hope so at least.. Ill give Sparano the benefit of the doubt.

This is a classictrap game. The Chargers come off of a difficult Divison game on the road, where they have to battle back in the second half for the victory.

They have the HATED Patsies comming to town NEXT week and want nothing more than to smack their behinds up and down the field in a game where its not lose or go home and it really doesn't matter + there is no Tom Brady, so you know they are chomping at the bit for THAt game

Finally, they have to travel across country to play a game against a 1-15 team, I'd be surprised it they've even bothered to think about us this week.

It won't be easy, but I think we can pull this one out....

They may be riding high of their continued improvement of the rush defense. So far this season, they've given up 5 rushes of at least ten yards and were giving up five yards a carry at one point. However, it has continued to improve as I said above. It went from 6.3 yard per carry to 3.7 and then 3.2, which equals out to 4.4 YPC average. This week they get Stephen Cooper back and with him in the starting lineup last year, they gave up 4.1 yards per carry. They probably see us as a one-dimensional offense. I would think that they would do what the Jets did and play up to Pennington's strength limits. Flood the box and play man outside with Jammer and Cromartie. Their Safeties have struggled though. John posted an article about it in the San Diego News thread about Eric Weddle and how he's given up a couple big plays this year, including the game winning touchdown against Carolina. However, I'm not sure if we will be able to attack them deep.

What I'm seeing in the Chargers is that are a decent team, with a lot of primadonnas attitude and some talents, after all their record is 2-2 which is not that great...
Personally i don't really care what their perception of the Dolphins is, what I know is that come Sunday we are going to show them why we beat them 6 consecutive times.

 

I'm in the same boat as you man. I see the Patriots losing to 49ers. Martz will gameplan against the Patriots weaknesses (middle of the field and LB's in coverage). I've also heard that Martz is going to feature his own Wildcat gameplan with Gore in there. However, one worry is their offensive line. Their line has given up more sacks on first and second down then third down which is unusual. I see the Patriots losing this game though.

I don't expect to see the Wildcat this week, because I'm not convinced for one, that it was entirely the "Wildcat" itself, that embarrassed the mighty Patriots last week, as much as the superb, and exclusive execution of it, by arguably our two most talented players, at wisely selected, and highly opportune moments.
Secondly, it's success can be far better utilized, in the form of confidence, that our success starved team has suddenly tasted, and need more importantly to build with, rather than see stuffed against a defense, in high anticipation of.
That said, I do expect to see a continuing use of motion, and creative formation designed to confuse, or rather as Sparano mentioned, to gain space for our players to operate.

 

Well we had 58 offensive plays and 6 came from the WildCat = 10.3 % of the total plays. If Ricky had not run out of field all would have been sucessful. We ran more plays than the WC but 92.1% of our scoring came from that formation, why on earth would we not use it? It seems to me that the old addage of do it till it is stopped would be reason enough and combined with no huddle it is a wonderful way to "Mix it Up" plus shove SD's face in it to boot.

Attack, attack, attack and run them into the ground. Damn I want us to win this game!!

Actually, I can. The 49ers are being thought of in much the same way as we are. My brother-in-law and I were just talking about them the other day. He was laughing and said have they even won a game, yet? He was surprised when I told him they're 2-2. Although their defense has been weak, their offense has been pretty decent. Their running game is averaging almost 5 ypc.
O'Sullivan has a 61.3% completion and has a QB rating of 90.

So yeah I could see them beating the Pats. Most are thinking that the Pats will rebound much the way they have in the past....an extra week to prepare, etc, etc. But I'm not convinced that they're anything like the Pats of old.
They've scored 4 TDs this year. They're avg 3.9 ypc on the ground and giving up 5 ypc. They're -2 on TO ratio. Their defense is slow.

Hey I could be way off base, but I don't think they even make the play offs this year.

 

This I have to agree with.games as well.

The 49ers loss to the Cards was much closer than the 10 point deficet. They DO have the tools on both side of the ball, and this Patriot team is Old, Injured and now very much exposed.
I can see Frank Gore having a career day, and I can see the 49er defense completely dominating.

I was talking to a Bills buddy of mine this last week. I told him I easily see the Bills winning the division at 11-5 and the Jests making a wildcard at 9-7. The Patriots might end up with 1 or 2 more wins than us....and I emphasize MIGHT

Suddenly, it's not so funny. They were somewhat prepared for the looks they saw last week but not so much when a new wrinkle was added.

Great game with solid play on both sides of the ball. You can tell that we are still weak in some areas but this team is for real!
