The Dolphins have been clearing the proverbial deck this offseason under new General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, highlighted again by the club agreeing to trade Jaylen Waddle to the Broncos on Tuesday.

But that doesn’t mean anyone and everyone will be moved.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports on Wednesday morning that the Dolphins have told inquiring teams that running back De’Von Achane is not available.

Achane, 24, just completed his third year in the league, which makes him eligible for an extension. As noted by ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Sullivan has mentioned Achane as a building block for the club. And after a season leading the league at 5.7 yards per carry in 2025, Achane could get a significant second contract from Miami.

Achane was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2025, having rushed for 1,350 yards with eight touchdowns and having caught 67 passes for 488 yards with four TDs.

In his 44 career games with 36 starts, Achane has rushed for 3,057 yards with 22 touchdowns and averaged a whopping 5.6 yards per carry. The versatile back has also caught 172 passes for 1,227 yards with 13 TDs.

This felt pretty obvious to me. Achane is special and he's the future of this team. Waddle is an ultra-fast, undersized receiver with pretty good hands. Both are great players, but it's two different things.

It's still nice that the organization came out and said he wasn't available.

No games. No listening to offers.

He is surely available for the right price. What are they going to do when he holds out in training camp? You cannot give a running back a monster extension in the middle of a full rebuild.

Well surely everyone is available for the right price. As I said in the other thread in Waddle, if someone offered the Dolphins a 1st round pick for Achane, the team would be idiotic not to entertain it.

I don’t want to get rid of Achane. I love this kid but if the Dolphins were offered the right price, you can’t tell me he isn’t available.

They may not be shopping him but they truly can’t say he’s not available.

I would think he has more value than Waddle. Especially since he can be extended. One 1st alone would be a steal.

I'm mixed on Achane. It would be great to have him in this first year of this new regime and it would also be good for Malik to have a good running game to take some pressure off of him and to open up the passing game.

However, there is the extension he's seeking. We're in a rebuild. We probably won't be serious contenders for at least a season or two.(though you never know:tongue:) He has some mileage on him for a smaller back. He's taken some pounding over these past years. While RB is one of my favorite positions, it just doesn't have a long shelf life in today's NFL.

You also have to wonder how much of his success was due to Mcdaniel and his schemes/concepts. I didn't like Mcdaniel as a HC, but he can be a good coordinator and he's very good with the run game. He did it with Mostert before Achane.

So, I don't know, if a team offers a first for him, I think it may be tough to pass up.

I feel like RBs don't make enough to worry it too much about especially on a team that has nobody of note locked up long term. They could probably afford to have him on a questionable contract two or three years from now.

I agree about trading him for a first but if they have to choose between paying him or dumping him for a third rounder they should just pay him and do it before Gibbs or Bijan set the market

I will say none of us are going to be excited about watching him run into 9 man boxes all year

He can say what he wants.. hes available at the right price.. if some team offers 2 firsts you think theyre dumb enough to say no? His contract is up, he is younger than Saquon and Jonathan Taylor… he will command a higher contract than both.. especially after what Kenneth Walker got from the Chiefs.. we would be dumb to turn down 2 firsts and god knows if the offer becomes more than that, dont count out 3 firsts

I don’t think that anybody will offer 2 or even 3 first round picks for Achane, if somebody does it, there is no doubt in my mind that we would do it in a heartbeat.

I would think that why Jon Eric said what he said… to drive up the value.. see whos daring.. there are teams that may think Devon Achane puts us in the top of the conference

He is a free agent after the season. Nobody is going to give up multiple first round picks paired with a contract extension when you can just sign him the next year. The Dolphins would be lucky to get one first round pick in my opinion and they should absolutely jump on it.

I know who will be excited for that- Malik Willis and our WR core. No competent coach lets opponents stack the box for free...they have to pay the tax of easy lobs past the secondary.

"Not available" translates to "We want at least a first rounder".
