The Miami Dolphins are clearing house this offseason, and their latest move has just been made. The Dolphins have just fired assistant general manager Marvin Allen, as per Dianna Russini on X. Allen worked as assistant GM since 2019, serving under ex-general manager Chris Grier for his entire tenure with the team. It’s unclear how much influence Allen had on the team, but he was with the team through the entire “Tank for Tua” era, from stripping the team of assets in 2019, to drafting Tua in 2020, hiring McDaniel in 2022, and so on and so forth. The theme of Miami’s offseason seems to be getting rid of any player, coach, and staff member who worked closely with Grier. Allen is the third member of Grier’s staff to be fired, after co-directors of player personnel Adam Engroff and Anthony Hunt were let go just 10 days after Grier himself was fired in November of 2025. With new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan now in charge, one of his first orders of business will be filling the holes left behind by Grier’s staff. With the draft just months away, expect most of the changes to be filled after the fact. Much of the preparation for this year’s draft will have been done already by current staff members of the Dolphins organization, and letting them go without having replacements lined up would be ill advised.
This actually surprised me…in a good way. Has Ross FINALLY learned his lesson? It’s apparently clear to me, Ross has hired Sullivan and has put him IN CHARGE, as it should be. For too many years, the organizational structure of the Dolphins has been in utter disarray. No clear chain of command, hiring head coaches before hiring GM’s, meddling in football operations instead of letting the football people you hired to run the organization, too much friction between coaches/GMs/Owner. I know Pittsburgh is the hot topic of the day but it sure seems to me Miami is taking a page out of the Rooney organizational playbook and resetting not the direction of the team, but the entire culture. I just hope Ross will sit back, exercise a little patience with his new GM, not meddle and let the new culture grow.
