I just want to discuss our team’s QB situation. I am not creating this thread to instigate anyone, but this is a good time to really address the big elephant in the room… or the small, fragile elephant in the room. ……..alright, lighten up. With all of this talk about which QB is better than which, my question is do we even have a QB? Seriously, do we at this point even have a viable starting QB? I don’t know. Now, this hip injury. Yes, it’s not the same injury from college, yada, yada, yada. We get that, but it is the same hip and regardless, it’s just another injury that forced him to miss yet another very important game when his team needed him most. I mean, I honestly wonder if he’s ever going to play again. However, I didn’t expect him to play again after his concussions, but he did and he will probably play again, but man, what are some really expecting? I feel the same and even stronger about what I said in my “My 2 cents” thread from awhile back. The rebuild is clearly over and it was an utter failure and I’m sorry, but I think the Tua dream must finally come to an end. This is not about who is right or wrong, I just think it’s time. He was injured again for the most important game of the season and maybe his career. I don’t know how this new injury is progressing, but man, this just isn’t looking good and it’s certainly not giving me much hope and optimism heading into next season. With the huge list of injuries going back to college, what are we really expecting now? He’s super fragile to begin with and he’s getting older. This doesn’t look good. We should be discussing Tua’s regression and therefor, the offense’s regression. It’s alarming and a terrible sign for the future of this team. Not just due to the injuries and missed time, but Tua and the offense severely regressed this past season. The offense had to be dumbed down a lot since Ds started figuring out the deep ball by taking away the middle of the field and jamming, etc. They were then forced to run this short, safe, screen s—t because Tua can’t sit in the pocket and take shots nor make plays with his legs. So, they’re forced to get the ball out of his hands as soon as possible. Tua could never function in a more traditional type of offense. To be a great QB, you must be able, at times, to step up in the pocket and take some hits to make a throw. Even mobile QBs must do that at times, though not as much. Tua will never be able to do that and he’s certainly not a mobile QB to be able to escape pressure and make big plays outside the pocket. This past season was brutally boring to watch and it’s not sustainable as we’ve seen. As others have mentioned, we had to eliminate the qb sneak from the playbook. An NFL team had to remove the QB sneak from their playbook! Soak that in. That’s nuts! Teams run QB sneaks in high school. That’s bad. As others have mentioned, look at Philly and their tush push or whatever. How many first downs have they made from that as well many other teams who can run a normal qb sneak? First downs are kind of important in football as well as being able to run a sneak at the goal line. TDs too are kind of important in football. It’s nuts. So, we don’t use the deep ball much anymore and can’t run a qb sneak or designed QB runs. I mean, talk about limited. He’s just so extremely limited. What are some expecting? After suffering multiple concussions, he then tries to tackle defenders by diving headfirst at them. Ok. Cool. All good. What do some of you think is going to happen going forward? He’s going to get concussed again. It’s just a matter of time and of course all the other injuries that will most likely happen. I think the dream has come to an end. However, even that will have to wait until after another season of this disappointing BS because of Mr Butthead and all the idiotic contracts he gave out. Then we’ll be right back to where we’ve been for decades post Marino of signing some FA QBs and hoping they were just in bad situation and are ready to have a rebirth in Miami and take us to the promise land. Again.....bottoms up, bros!
Another Tua string where all the same characters chime in on how they don't like him?? Haven't we beat this dead horse enough? If this starts to go off the rails it will be shut down.
I mentioned the route that they will most likely have to take. Agree or do you still have hope? How do you feel? What’s your plan?
Thanks my man. Good stuff. I do dig you, brotha’ One day I’m coming down to Miami to go to a game to hang with you in the parking lot, drink beer and eat some of your famous steak tips. Woo! Peace!
Is that what you want though? Tua to get injured again. Win 5-6 games. Get a retread quarterback next year. Try to win, if not then trade everyone. Then tank for the next few years hoping you can land a franchise quarterback. This was basically the Panthers plan the last five years. It's working out great for them. That's what you think is going to happen. What do you want to happen?
lol! Hell no! That’s exactly why I’m pissed and drinking more on game days! I would love for him to prove me wrong, but, I don’t know man. Do you think it’s looking good? I need your positive vibes. Help a brotha” out.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. We bet the farm on Tua. He's the QB for at least the next two seasons. We need to invest heavy in improving the O line, sign a real veteran backup, and if things go like last season again sh!t's going to get blown up. We stumbled out of the gate this year and dug a hole too deep to get out of. Let's see how things go next season. If Tua misses another 4 to 6 games it's time to go QB in the 1st round and McDaniel will probably end up getting fired. McDaniel’s fate is tied to Tua's.
If Tua plays 17 games they are competing for the division or going to the playoffs too. There shouldn't be any debate on that. He's that good and that important to this team. Everything is based on Tua's health ultimately. I think you try to build a wall in front of him, revamp the running game and keep him in the pocket like 2023.
This is absolutely an attempt by the OP to pick a fight. We have 2-3 other threads dedicated to arguing about Tua. No need for a third one. Sorry, not taking the bait with this one. My only advice is to root for another team until Tua is no longer here. Go be a Bengals fan.
Even if you're the biggest believer in Tua, I don't see how you couldn't be concerned, given all the accumulating injuries, and he's 5 years in. He's already lasted longer than the average career for an NFL QB. If for nothing else than to play devil's advocate, and discuss some of the things Sceeto mentioned. Like how much time do you think Tua has? I just don't see his health/durability improving as he gets older.
Literally everyone here has questioned and worried about his health. We don’t need another thread about it. This is a troll thread.
Is that why you're so conspicuous by your absence when he does? Fair play then, you're so overcome with love that you can't move. I always thought you were hiding until the next loss but gotta take a guy at his word.
But so, I don't really get it. If the Dolphins lose, and Tua plays poorly and we point it out, everyone complains at us, and calls us trolls trying to cause problems. If the Dolphins win (almost exclusively against bad teams) and Tua looks good, then everyone and their mother wants us to post so that they can try to drag us. And if we try to discuss our viewpoint, we get called trolls trying to cause problems. It's literally the dumbest mindset. The argument isn't that given the right offense and the right situation that Tua can't be good. It's that when he's not in an ideal situation that he is worse than his peers. I've said several times, I think the opposite is absolutely true. Even with his deficiencies, if you put him in the right offense with with really good to great skill players, he will do more than other QBs. I just think the dropoff you get with Tua when things aren't great is worse than the dropoff you get with some of his peers, as they have physical tools that allows them the opportunity to overcome adversity on their own.
Tua on schedule > Tua off schedule…which is true for every QB. You can probably count on one hand (with a finger or two to spare) that do not have a huge drop off when they have to improvise. We would all love to have one of those guys, but there just aren’t a lot of them. So the rub is how to keep Tua mostly on schedule (which is what every team tries to do for their QB). I suggest building a line so he can get a couple more seconds to read the routes and deliver a strike. Would be super nice to have a strong run game as well (which gets back to the OL). All of this is the general formula for success for any QB. Not sure why Grier is going against the grain and not sure why we are expecting Tua to be able to overcome the general consensus on how to win.
That's not a fair take. Many anti-Tua posters would rather see Tua play bad and the Dolphins lose than Tua play well and the Dolphins win. Some have even admitted they want the Dolphins to lose as much as possible so we can get rid of Tua and Grier. That's not what fans do, irrespective of the claim we can't really know the mind of another poster. The posting style itself is anti-Dolphins and it deserves to be attacked on a Dolphins message board. He's clearly not in an ideal situation. Everyone knows the OL is bad. Tua put up 3 straight years of elite stats that is statistically extremely unlikely to be done just by "being in the right situation". What we saw was in large part due to Tua. Can't give everyone else credit except Tua. It's an untenable position. If Tua plays smarter and we build a better OL he'll have statistically average level of availability and the issue will be moot. I just hope Tua does his part and learns to play smarter — you know, not diving head first into a defender well after he already had a 1st down.
No, no one said they hoped that we lose so that we "get rid of Tua and Grier.". It was just Tua. And, it's because they don't believe the we can be effective in the playoffs because Grier is incapable of building a complete team. In their view, you're simply advocating for more of the past 25 years. They view your position just as ridiculous as you view theirs. I think it's incredibly disingenuous to insinuate that they are bad fans.
Tua put up his best numbers beating up bad teams. Then generally disappears in big games. If it was all as rosy as you guys make it out to be, we wouldn't be having these conversations. No one was arguing that Marino was great.
StaleTacos made it abundantly clear in many many posts in threads you were a part of he wanted us to lose as much as possible to get Grier fired, and of course Tua losing was the best path to that. You have a really bad memory if you can't even remember that. Look it up. And no it's not disingenuous to claim people who actively root for the team to lose are bad fans. There's a difference between acknowledging Tua's limitations and actively hoping he plays bad, posting with such glee when he gets injured, hoping and rooting for the team to lose.
You can also look up how you’re wrong. I posted awhile back how some of the top QB’s do against some of the better teams in the league. Other than Mahomes, Tua is about the same as other guys like Allen, Jackson, etc. against similar teams. It was either ignored or the “he didn’t do enough” mantra came up. You know, the mantra used only for Tua. Lol The problem is, the Dolphins lose a lot of games where Tua plays above average. And since it’s been claimed here by some that “winning is the only thing that matters” and “stats don’t tell the story”, that’s what you all stick to. However, and like with everything else, goalposts will be moved and some here will use stats for QB’s they like and on teams they really root for.
Later tonight Tua will have lost his only playoff appearance to the first team in league history to pull off a 3 peat. Kind of like saying Patrick Ewing wasn't good enough for losing to MJ.
Perhaps not but the point stands…the Chiefs have been to the last 3 Super Bowls; 5 out of the last 7 and have 3 Lombardi trophies. Anyone who faces a team like this instantly has their backs against the wall and the odds of victory are stacked against them
Allen and the Bills are 0-4 in the playoffs against KC. Yet Tua alone should be able to beat them to be considered good.
