It’s been more than six months since veteran cornerback Xavien Howard told teams he had been cleared to return from a foot injury, but there’s been no news of any teams showing interest. Until today. Howard will be in Cincinnati visiting the Bengals today, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The 31-year-old Howard was a second-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2016 and has played his entire NFL career in Miami. He’s been a first-team All-Pro once, a Pro Bowler four times and led the NFL in interceptions in both 2018 and 2020. Howard missed the end of last season because of the foot injury but started every game he was healthy enough to play last year. If he’s able to return to his previous level, he could be a significant addition to the Bengals or some other team hoping to bolster its secondary down the stretch.
Reading this story, something doesn't smell right in Denmark. She's suing Howard, but says she doesn't want any harm to come to him? She's seeking $50,000 in damages? Only $50,000? She's not pressing charges? The police haven't arrested Howard for distributing pornography to a minor? Not defending Howard at all, just saying something doesn't pass the smell test here.
Tuanon This is not a criminal suit or accusation... This is civil Some key elements to this case... Claims are being made years after the fact.... (Very difficult to prove) The standards for proof are higher in a criminal case. The fact that this was not a criminal case tells us a lot... If there was concrete proof of criminal wrong doing Howard would be a fool to not already have paid her whatever she wanted She wanted money, He said no... So now she is suing him... Again he has not been charged with any crime... I do not condone any of the things he is accused of. Howard does however have rights under the law. This falls into the category of "The Law of Torts." Where she feels wronged, and as such feels entitled to compensation for her pain and suffering. Jail is not even an option if Howard is found liable for damages....
Civil suits are far from meaningless. A lot of times, especially in sexual related cases, the victims don’t want to be dragged through a lengthy and exposing trial. It’s just too much. They want their perpetrators to pay, and sometimes financially in the easiest way for the victim to get that. The victim claims there’s video. I doubt it would have gone this far if there wasn’t.
I hear you Dan but something is wrong here and I don’t know what. With everything that was illustrated in the link that Tuanon posted, she should be suing for millions…and he should have been arrested for distributing pornography to a minor, if what was reported is true. Something’s just not adding up here. It’s making me think this is a bad breakup, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions.
DK There might well be video... again the plaintiff has admitted to making "Consentual" videos with Howard. it is going to be very difficult to sift through this years later what videos she does and does not approve of. it is not like there will be disclaimer statements made at the beginning of the videos stating that they have permission to film...etc. But you are dead on correct... If Howard had committed crimes and there was clear proof of actual felonies... He would be arrested and charged with said crimes/felonies. It did not happen and there is a reason for that. The plaintiff and her lawyer would absolutely apply any and all leverage if they had any.
Oh look… more “mistakes” by you know who. The sex videos also in question are the ones X sent to a CHILD. You’ll ignore that because you just can’t help being dishonest. There’s a reason the NFL won’t touch him.
This is one of the things Dan that has me thinking something isn’t right here. I can’t imagine him not being arrested if this indeed happened. I’m not taking a position one way or the other. When it comes to the criminal justice system, I let all the facts play out before passing any judgment. I just say something doesn’t smell right in Denmark
Due to the fact that the victim's lawyers have asked to add the (now) 18 yr old to their case is more telling to me. My assumption as to why X wasn't arrested is because he may have sent some edited version of the video to the kid. No nudity, but maybe something that's obvious there was sex happening. Sounds, blurred out portions, etc. Of course we can't know anything for certain, but the amount she's asking for, to me, doesn't really play a factor in something being "fishy". I've written before that it may be a money grab, but with what the victim is claiming, I find it hard to believe that there isn't evidence to support her claim. This isn't a he said-she said thing to me.
You may be right but, and this is all according to the link Tuanon posted, she doesn’t want any harm to come to Howard and is only asking for $50k. I don’t know. I’m only making assumptions based on my observations but if she doesn’t want any harm, why sue? And if you’re suing, why only $50? Hell, Bill Cosby was sued for millions. I’d be very interested in seeing everything when and if it becomes public knowledge.
Oh I don’t doubt there are quite a few “dogs” or “douchbags” in the league. Insert DeShaun Watson here! Sadly that’s what happens when you take a 21/22 year old kid, who more often than not came from nothing and make him an instant multimillionaire. They have MONEY, prestige, and a sense of entitlement and sadly, foolishly spend that money in ways they were never able to before…but I digress. But I do agree…if he did do this, he is definitely a POS.
Sorry but you own your actions. Just because you’re poor and disadvantaged doesn’t mean you don’t know right from wrong. Paying another guy to bang a 17 year old, alledgely when you’re 30ish. Really. Bad people are bad people. It’s a choice and portraying it any other way discounts the majority who do the right thing.
Nobody is condoning anything... But please remember... Innocent until proven guilty. This is only civil court and as of right now nothing has been proven. The plaintiff can claim just about anything they want... What can they prove? Until it has been proven in a court of law He has done nothing wrong. Yes the things he is accused of are bad... That does not change the fact that as of right now he is completely 100% innocent. The civil court as opposed to criminal is a massive difference. In criminal court the prosecution has to prove they have sufficient evidence to even proceed with a court case... in civil court anyone can sue anyone for whatever they want and they do not have to provide proof beforehand... Civil court is called Kangaroo court for a reason.
oh anyone can want anything, his market is not there for 10 million. Im sure with what he probably already has in his bank account from what the dolphins paid him, havibg the highest contract in his position and then an extension after he saw what byron jones got.. theres a certain number in mind hes got that will get him off the couch.. vet minimum isnt it for him.. but he wont be receiving anything above that especially next offseason after a full season away from football. hell he may get a camp invite and thats it
If he’s not wanting to play for the veteran minimum, I get that but the longer he “sits on the couch”, the more and more he’s forgotten about. If Howard truly wants his payday (as he sees it) he’s got to be on the field showing why he deserves said payday. Otherwise he’s going to fade into obscurity.
