This team is full of injury prone, talentless, overpaid old players. McDaniel is a clueless coach who can't handle an ounce of pressure.
Maybe that country club atmosphere at training camp wasn't such a good idea, they forgot how to play football.
No no, we were all told, quite matter of factly, that those ideas were simply the fever dreams of trolls.
Told ya'll we were gonna get smoked today. This team has a golden opportunity to tank the season away and try again at this Quarterback thing. Hopefully Grier wont be making the pick this time.
This has all the signs of a collapse year, followed by another rebuild. Hopefully Grier is gone or it won't really matter. I wonder if Mike Vrabel would like the Miami job? He did a lot more with Tanny than I thought possible, though Henry made it easier for sure. Tua needs to go though, you can't depend on him being healthy, last year WAS THE FLUKE YEAR, where he did stay healthy and the norm for him is being injured for a significant part of each season. Wow, week 3 and this season is a wrap.
All starts at the top. A long as we have this football moron owning this team expect more of the same.
I'm not out on McDaniel but this is a deeply flawed team and that's on Grier. The lack of OL has been a problem for years and he had the audacity to laugh at those concerns. He has failed to find depth, he let high level homegrown talent leave, he failed to insure the QB position. He has failed to provide us with a winning product year after year after year. I'm willing to see McDaniel back with a different GM who actually knows talent, knows teambulding and knows how to create a culture. But he has regressed this season, let's be honest. His playcalling is stale, his system isn't working, his determination that he can scheme good OL play is a failure. His eye for talent has been suspect. He has been way too lax and buddy buddy with the players and they lack discipline and toughness, lack any semblance of an edge. I think he can still be good with someone else calling the personnel shots but he needs to show something here. Skylar and Boyle as your QBs was not acceptable. There is so much season left but the questions are mounting and no good answers are being provided. I've pretty much checked out, this isn't worth anything but the minimum.
Everything you said about mcdaniels has been going on for 3 years when faced with better competion. He is a deer in headlights when faced with adversity and treats his players like old friends. He should be fired after this season but the moron gave him an extension for getting to the playoffs 2 years in a row.I guess that is our sad bar these days.
Yeah, I was thinking that 1-15 sticks with you, but... Miami could pull off a 1-16 season? Not the same drama as facing being the first team to go 0-16, but plenty ugly.
Contract extension is meaningless, coaches aren't salary capped and Ross has not been shy about throwing money around. If he is unhappy and wants to go in a new direction that extension won't change anything. My point is that the way this team was built is just rotten and that's on Grier. The lack of OL was a problem before McDaniel stepped in the building, for example. That said, I get people that have soured on him and I won't cry if we make changes. But I do think there is some promise there if someone can actually build a fundamentally sound team. It's hard to pretend to be tough when you can't convert a third and 1 because your line just gets blown up time after time after time after time. I do want to see things from him this season though, I'm not saying I want him back, just that I'm not totally out on him at this specific moment. Grier though? We won't succeed with him. That's done. He needs to receive a pink slip at some point so we can get the search underway.
Sadly I knew the Dolphins were going to lose this game. Not just the historical record the Dolphins have on the left coast, the Dolphins just seem to be “off” offensively from where they were last year. I’ll get back to that in a minute. Looking at the defense…sighs…I was both optimistic and apprehensive about the Anthony Weaver hire. Optimistic as the Ravens have had a phenomenal defense over the last 2 decades but apprehensive being a first year DC. Have the players not yet adjusted to the new scheme or does weaver not really have a scheme? This defense couldn’t stop a kid from getting a cookie out of the cookie jar! Utterly pathetic. Now for the elephant in the room. The offense is just non-existent! Yes, you lost your MVP caliber quarterback for 4 games, but this isn’t like it’s Thompson’s first year with the Dolphins. It’s not like he doesn’t (or shouldn’t) know the offense. He’s been here for 3 years so he should have played better however, is it ALL his fault? I’m banging the drum again!!! The offensive line is pure, 100% straight up dogsh!t!! Thompson was flushed out of the pocket on nearly every pass attempt in 2 seconds or less. Sorry, Skylar Thompson is no Tua Tagovailoa that can deliver a strike from behind a weak line. So while Thompson played like dogsh!t, it has to be noted he can only play with what HE has. Crossman has GOT to go!! God dam, how many penalties were there on special teams?? The only bright spots on today’s game were the runs by Achane and Wright, but those were few and far in between with this OL blocking for them. When the defensive line is already in the backfield when the ball is handed off…beating that drum again. It could be worse though…we could have made that Deshaun Watson trade, so I guess that’s another good thing.
Yes, the signs were there. I think some of us saw this coming back in preseason. There's things that happen before the season starts that can be tell tale signs that things aren't going to go as we all would like. I think one of those signs was the fact that we had injuries piling up before the season even got started. When a team starts a new season off with a grocery list of players either injured or still rehabbing it's never a good sign. We came out flat against Jacksonville in the opener and I personally chalked it up to us just not being ready. We got demolished by Buffalo and now spanked by Seattle. This team is in some deep $hit at this point and it may be time to cut our losses and rebuild this yet again. It pains me to say this, but I think Tua needs to be done with football. The guy is a walking seizure waiting to happen. The talent is and shouldn't be a question, but everything else about him IS. His durability, his failures in clutch moments, the inability to rise to the occasion and beat a good team. These are factual concerns about him. The injury/concussion issues are the most concerning and unfortunately, you can't fix the ones he's having. Head injuries, brain trauma...Yeah that's some serious stuff right there. We IR'd him to buy some time to evaluate things, but he needs to be done. I could go on and on about Tua, but it's not going to do any good. I know we can't keep playing this hand of cards though. It's not going to be good for him or for anyone else involved. I've never really leaned one way or the other in regards to Grier. I feel like he's given a valiant effort as a GM. He's made some good and bad calls with this franchise. With that being said, ignoring the offensive line this past offseason has proven to be a fatal mistake for him. It's time for him to hit the road. Sadly, I don't think that happens because he's tied firmly to Stephen Ross, and unless Ross sells, we're still going to be dealing with Chris Grier. Also...I'm going to say it. Extending Jalen Ramsey will prove to be a huge mistake for us. I don't know why we did that when he was already showing signs of slowing down two years ago with the Rams. Stupid, stupid move on our part. This brings me to McDaniel. If Grier is tied to Ross, I feel like McDaniel is basically tied to Tua. That's usually how it goes with coaches. They are ultimately tied to the success of their quarterback. Rarely is there an exception to the rule. Right now Shannahan in San Fran is the only one bucking that trend. I'm not ready to quit on McDaniel though. This is going to be a tough year for us. We're going to lose at least 11 games this year and I think it'll be a great learning experience for him as a coach. I'm not ready to just quit on that. He's dealing with circumstances that are out of his control. With that being said, he may have already sealed his fate with this team/franchise because of how relaxed and buddy/buddy he's been with the players. I realize that the days of coaches spitting tobacco and screaming at players are long gone. The rah rah $hit is over unfortunately. I hate that it is because when I first started to watch the sport, that's part of what made it great to watch. Colorful names like Buddy Ryan, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcells, Jim Mora, Dennis Green...They are all gone and no longer part of this game. These days it's wrong to yell at players. We're living in different times and that is maybe why McDaniels is seen as such a good fit. Like I said though. I'm not ready to quit on him, but he's going to have to get control of this team and the players. The coach "sets the mood", they set the identity. Again, we don't need him yelling and screaming and kicking trash cans, but he's going to have to get a grip. Three games into the season and we're already talking about rebuilding, the draft, and retooling this roster. Wow this is sad and depressing! I mean we waited a hard seven months to get this going again. To recoup the crappy ending we had last year only to have it simply continue. You know what? Maybe this team was lost back in late December of last year and it just continued into this year. Maybe we've been exposed? I don't know man, but I'm checking out on football already and it's only three weeks deep.
The year we added Daunte Culpeper I think I checked out after the second or third week. This season feels a lot like that one. In 2007 I had no expectations because I knew we were gonna suck. The year Flores got here we all knew what to expect. This season we had expectations out the gate similar to 2006 with Culpeper.
Sad fact. We have not held a lead at any point during the first 3 games of the season. And it doesn't look like we are going to break that streek any time soon. Where all the homers now? Look on the bright side, you can still pull out the injury card and use that as an excuse again.
I have two words for you, Tony Sparano. Dude literally had to fist pump for made field goals because our offense sucked so bad under him.
There are times a pick is worth trading away for the right player, but relying on it as much as this team has just shows how off base Grier's talent evaluation process in the draft is. That said I liked the Jaylen Wright pick, but here we are 1 squeaked out victory and two spankings into the year and we haven't seen him. Now I am at the point I'd rather not see him play much in what is bound to be a year of utter irrelevance. Better to keep him healthy, and hope we can bring in a quality QB in free agency, and build a real offensive line next year. Keep Hill, keep OBJ, trade Waddle, and try to keep all three of our RB's. And if KC keeps forgetting Kelce exists who knows... I don't see Grier being able to handle that task.
MNF games should be flexed to a more deserving matchup.. are we really about to display this team on national television?
I’m not ready to give up on McDaniel but the style of football Vrabel coaches is my type of football. Hard nose, smash mouth, in the trenches, physical football. Beat your opponent into submission. But to run that type of offense requires DOMINANT…not average, not good, but a DOMINANT offensive line. We don’t have that and as long as Grier is the GM, we’ll never had it. The OL is an afterthought for Grier. He prefers the fancy bling that makes a “car” look pretty instead of the “engine” or “tires”. If Ross would just rid of Grier and get a GM that can build that dominant line, our offense could be unstoppable!
We dont have the cap to build the offensive line.. we have armstead that cant get on the field due to an eye injury.. even if we took him out of the salary cap we are still capped to hell and unable to
The neutrality part, and that he has put in a valiant effort. If GM's were like draft picks he would be my projection for the pick after Mr. Irrelevant.
They aren't talentless and they don't win 2 games a year so he has done an ok job but ok isn't good enough. Time for him to go but we also don't have to be hyperbolic about him
We aren't talentless, but the fundamental building blocks are just not there. It's like trying to build a big glitzed out resort on sand without pouring a good and solid rebar reinforced foundation first. That would land any architect out of a job, which is exactly where Grier belongs. In a perfect world Grier goes to the Bills, and we get someone who knows how to lay a foundation before worrying about eye candy and fantasy stats over solid team building.
