Yeah you were the one that made the current talk about poster "character" when I was only commenting on the game. You started this, don't act like it was thrust on you. As far as stats one of your quotes best sums up where you stand: https://thephins.com/threads/no-contract-extension-for-tua-yet.98495/page-4#post-3565038 You said that in response to me saying we should wait till we get more data, kind of similar to what I'm saying now. Your view on stats borders on the absurd sometimes.
I think I read if he's medically forced to retire, he keeps the money. If he is medically cleared, and doesn't want to play, he doesn't keep the money. Talk about a conflict of interest. I really hope the right thing is done here.
Performance against playoff teams isn't the same as performance when it matters most. To me, the latter is specific to late-season games that decide making the playoffs or not. If you're going to argue performance against playoff (or good) teams yes I agree, but that's different from "when it matters most". And how can I "struggle with understanding this nuance" when that distinction is PRECISELY the distinction I made. C'mon man.. it's one post removed from me demonstrating I understand the distinction lol.
We disagree here. The games in the beginning of the season count as much as the ones at the end of the season, you just have a clearer picture at the end of the season. In terms of the regular season, when it matters most is when you face these good playoff caliber teams because that's ultimately going to determine your divisional and playoff fate.
I was wondering what the salary cap consequences would be if he got a medical retirement. i remember the Heat basically forced Bosh into medical retirement and they were able to get him off the books while still paying him.. but thats the NBA
Wins and losses count equally, yes, but if you take that route then no games are more important than others. You can't argue it's more important to beat playoff teams. Usually, when people refer to "when" it matters most they're talking about late in the season at which point it's irrelevant whether you're facing a weak or strong team. Late in the season it's easier to see the costs of losing or winning a game because you know what other teams have done. The discussion about how Tua does late in the season in the cold and away from home was usually associated with the "when it matters most" argument. So I think the verbiage needs to align with what people tend to refer to. Against better teams yes Tua does worse (most QBs are similar). But "when it matters most", i.e., late in the season with playoff implications it's still too small sample size.
I'm really surprised to see some people that haven't been around (to be clear they've been lurking but not posting) for over 6-7 months show up posting today after last night's game. SHOCKED I tell you...
Dude you never played organized sports at any significant level, which is clear when you discuss things. You don't have a clue
It's semantics and opinion at this point but I'll continue... "but if you take that route then no games are more important than others." No, that's not true. The games against the teams you'll be sparring with to win division count more. It's like a 2 win swing. You add a loss to your main competition, and add a win to yours. Not to mention if there are ties, the head to head records matter. Beating playoff teams in general, would put you in a better position when it comes to playoff bracketing and again, head-to-head records could come into play. Allen, Purdy, and Lamar were all beasts against playoff caliber teams.
I think he will return as well but after he got concussed after that hit, which wasn’t a hard hit, I don’t know if his body is made for this sport…
You keep saying things like that but first of all it's not true, and second all you don't have to have experience actually doing something to make relevant inferences about it. I'm not a doctor, but I've published important medical research using data obtained from clinicians. You're making an irrelevant argument.
All of this bickering back and forth is stupid and utterly childish...and I wish it would all stop, whether you're a Tua supporter or a Tua critic. If all you care about is whether or not you were right about Tua, I invite you all to the exit. I don't care if you were right or wrong about Tua. When it comes to this organization, I care about two things and two things only... 1. I hope Tua and EVERY other injured player we have on our roster is, or going to be ok. 2. What do we need to do to win the next game? If you don't care about THOSE 2 things, goodbye! Go....go away Next week's game against Seattle, we have a quarterback issue. Thompson hasn't had any real rep time since the 2022 season when he filled in for Tua and Bridgewater. And if memory serves me right, he only had one win in that 2022 season against the Jets. The Dolphins are in quite the quagmire for next week. Do we roll with Thompson? Do we give Tannehill a call? I don't trust Tannehill being THIS line but unless Thompson has a sudden come to Jesus moment where he excels by leaps and bounds in the next 10 days, I don't really know what we're going to do.
Well I have been around and I am pissed! This team choked it's *** off again in front of whole country. Now under Mcmuffin 3-10 on national stage. This is not the guy.Game is won in trenches and Grier let 2 of our best trench guys go so we could extend washed Ramsey and above the law Hill.Tua was the biggest mistake of all. We are so ****ed if he retires.
lol...Did you feel the hit? His MOA of injury, and the way the forces twisted and compressed his neck and head, would most likely concuss anyone. Remember last season against the Lions when Stafford was concussed, showed a fencing posture, left the field and was allowed to return? His "hit" was when he fell backwards and hit his head. A lesser hit, IMO.
OK, but unless division opponents are more likely to be in that "playoff teams" statistic you showed earlier, then no it's not true that they matter more (using the definition you were using earlier). So not sure that argument works. Lamar is a terrible playoff QB. It's the primary reason the Ravens are wasting an elite defense year after year.
Personally, I wouldn't do anything to be middling without upside. Worst position to be in, and always my worst fear with Tua. Good enough to be involved, but not bad enough to pick high in the draft. I'd try to trade for a high upside, high bust QB, and re-work the scheme to fit his strengths. Maybe you develop a really interesting long term asset. The franchise though usually does the dumbest thing possible, so I would guess they make a move for Jimmy G.
In your opinion. Imo this wasn’t a hard hit, similar to the one against Green Bay when he got concussed, different kind of tackle but not a violent one.
The most frustrating thing about this mess is that Tua did it to himself. He led with his head. I still can't believe he was that careless. Slide feet first like you're supposed to and this wouldn't have happened.
It would have eventually happened, especially in a season where the plan was to run more. This was as routine a tackle as it gets.
I can understand it, like I posted in the game thread. He‘s very competitive and we’re getting smoked by the Bills again, so he wants to do something to put the team on his back, he’s human and no robot but he should have learned his lesson by now when it comes to „trucking“ people…
Brady isnt coming out of retirement . We dont have 35 million to offer him which is his fox salary. and on another note, whoever the quarterback is next week, whether its Tua, Skylar or 1986 Dan Marino. No one is surviving behind this pathetic offensive line. that offnsive line yesterday was offensive. Im not sure if it can get worse than how they played yesterday.
The offensive line did great in run blocking, and we actually called a balanced run vs pass game.. but man is their pass protection awful. And i mean god awful.
So physics, science and medicine evaluated this specific tackle as a violent one? Interesting, you got studies?
"Specific tackle"? LMAO! So unless two people are shot by the same gun, same caliber, and in the same place we can't know anything about a gun shot? Again, it's called physics and medicine. I even went and found a short video (which apparently you didn't watch...it's a few posts before this) explaining the forces involved in the hit and why it's likely to injure anyone.
You could slow-mo every hit in the game, and see a head moving. The difference is this one resulted in a concussion because of the player. I'm sure you could find FAR WORSE hits in this game. Tua was just more susceptible to additional concussions despite the nonsense of people saying he wasn't. They created their own reality. You can always find a doctor to tell you what you want to hear. The doctors that don't tell you what you want to hear, you just don't visit. When you have unlimited resources, it's not hard to keep searching and finding doctors that align with your goal. I think the question is now what the goal for the organization is. If I'm Tua, I'm finding a doctor that says I can't play, and I can collect on medical retirement. The org on the other hand, might want to not pay as much of that contract as possible, and find that doctor that says he can play. That would then force Tua to make a decision if he wants his life or the additional money. He's chosen the money once. I hope he has enough of it now.
Tua is either the most unlucky or least durable QB I can think of. Can't recall any QB suffering so many serious injuries on routine football plays.
The issue isn't whether or not Tua attempts to come back. I expect him to try,. I also expect that no team is going to want him as a starter. He's way to risky. He goes down, your season is over. Who is gonna want that risk? So I think that in reality, the decision will be made for him, regardless of his personal desires/feelings.
It is true, you've told me that before. It does matter, because if you had played even high school sports, you would know that playing playoff teams, during the regular season, IS important and it DOES show where your team is at. Looking at Tua's games, during the regular season, against teams who ended up being playoff teams, is great data to look at to see how he is doing. Buffalo is 13-1 against us. They are also a playoff regular. I'm sure the two things are completely unrelated.
I don't know, but I tend to agree. Only thing I do know is, that this sucks big time and it sadly fits with this franchise. Everytime you're able to harness some kind of confidence in this team it blows up one way or the other...
It would stop if several people would simply acknowledge what is staring then possibly in the face. The posters refusing to see reality is what drives this.
I agree, but learning about the money makes me think differently. The team might look for a doctor that says he can play again to force Tua to choose between his life and the money. What I'd like to know is what happens in the scenario of multiple opinions. If one doctor says he shouldn't play, and another doctor says he can and signs off on it. I guess the question is what are the requirements for medical retirement.
